Re: News from the 'Ring - report & pics

    MarekN:

Funny about my fellow countrymen making a show at the Ring. Don´t worry about it, I am sure they just wanted to show the locals that the eastern side of Europe is catching up in various aspects. Maybe in the past some German guy stepped on their blanket on the beach in Croatia, or whatever. This happens, you know?

Btw, can you take out a Cup car during a Touristenfahrt? How do the VLN teams handle the practising side of the business? Do they just go with the tourists in regular street cars to practise the lines?

No hard feelings Marek. Smiley Most of us "Touristenfahrers" are pure amateurs, we check the airpressure ourselves, wash the window when filling the tank and get water at the same time. We´re probably just jealous of these guys having a complete team around them to help them out. And then it is easy just to make a joke about it. But they probably stood out pretty well from the crowd with their team. Smiley

As to the cup car I think it is only allowed if they have normal plates (are registered) and they meet the requirements regarding noise.

My boyfriend sometimes get the question, what if Anne is faster than you? He always answers: "Then I have to buy a faster car". Smiley

Not so easy as he already drives the mighty GT2, but I'm sure Manthey can help with some additional ponies Smiley Actually I'm quite sure you're the fastest Porsche girl on the NoS - maybe except Sabine Smiley
It seems that it's generally not a good idea to let one's brother behind the wheel of your Porsche Smiley

Now that you mention the red 966 GT3 with US number plates (Idaho ?)  I recall that I had a nice chat with the guy last year. Actually he planned to bring the car back to the US, but I'm under the impression that it will stay at the 'Ring forever Smiley

I didn't participate in the Sportauto course yet, but it's on my to-do-list for the next season. I know from some friends who are regulars at the Sportauto training, that they have excellent instructors and basically you do lap after lap for the whole day Smiley There a quite some fast participants doing lap times consistently sub 8 min (for the full lap, not BTG).

It's a bit tricky with 'Ring related business ideas, because the Nürburgring GmbH often abuses their monopoly like status Smiley

@ Marek: it's pure coincidence that the guys were country fellows of yours. But the show somehow suited the decals of one the 3.8 GT3s (decals saying it would be an RS Smiley) At least they did a lot of laps - thumbs up for that; after all that's what really counts  Smiley The worst posers are those blocking the parking places for the entire day without doing a single lap (all kind of nationalities/ number plates, but the cars very often are red Smiley).

Like Anne explained already, during the Touristenfahrten only registered (roadlegal) cars are allowed. The VLN cars are tested either in the Friday free practice of a race weekend and some of them during trackdays. It always gives me an extra thrill when I get chased by a Cup Porsche on a trackday Smiley

I think most of the VLN (and RCN) drivers have at least a couple of hundred Touri-laps on roadlegal cars under their belt before they start competitive racing on the NoS.

1000 laps, that is really impressive! Smiley  Smiley Hope to meet her some time, far too few girls at the NS, most of those who are there are only passengers. I cant understand why not more girls have discovered how fun this is. Smiley

I have about 250 laps so far. Last year I had 100 laps with my Cayman. This year I have done 150, but 19 of them was with a VW Schirrocco from Rent-a-racecar and 2 of them with the GT2. So I have a long way to go. Smiley

I remember this car, I saw it when I was there in august or in the beginning of september. But I only saw it at "Devils Diner", not on the track. There was another car with the same decals, her father? The car looks impressive with all the extra gear and the camber, I will guess the engine is modified too. Is she fast?

    Anne:

The cars are from Edo Competition (german tuning firm):

    http://www.edo-competition.de/en/ueber-uns/about-us.html

They also drive a 997 GT3 and a 968 in the Biene Maja look - basically these cars are demo cars of the company. They are all modified, but I don't know the details. As for the drivers: sometimes they are quite fast (I guess that's when EDO's "testdrivers" are behind the wheel), sometimes they are not so fast (I guess that's when either a customer goes for a lap or when they offer a PAX lap to one of their customers and the customer gets some stomach problems during the ride Smiley).

Though I'm not aware of a girl driving the Edo Porsche as a regular - will have a closer look next time Smiley

Anne, beware of the scandinavian youngster girls commencing their training on NoS - there may be some future competition for you Smiley Last weekend there was a swedish white/black 997 GT3 RS (father & daughter driving). I was astonished that the father let the daughter (just 18 from the looks..) drive on NoS. A (young) friend of mine started dreaming already: hhhhhhm, young pretty swedish girl with wealthy father, both NoS addicts, GT3 RS as 'Ring tool - exactly what I'm looking for Smiley

Re: News from the 'Ring - report & pics

    Porsche-Jeck:

At the Breidscheid entrance there were three Czechs (2 x 3.8 GT3, 1x 997 GT2) installing their base camp there for the entire weekend. They had a service truck with them and after every two laps or so the drivers made a pit stop at Breidscheid. While they kept sitting in their cars 4 guys in blue overalls jumped out of the truck: one of them cleaning the window, one checking tire pressure and one providing a water bottle to the driver. Finally they played around with the monstrous torque converter for the single bolt wheels of the 3.8 GT3s "checking" whether all four wheels were still tight....Smiley It was the ultimate 'Ring poser show - too bad I hadn't a digi cam with me Smiley

A friend of mine thought that this kind of service actually could be a clever business idea considering the number of posers Smiley Of course we would make it more attractive with some sexy car wash in the summer time Smiley

There apre people from all over Europe, even from Japan taking the course. The main ones are Germans, Sweedes and Swiss, but there are also Italiens , French  etc..

You can ask to be put in an English speeking group. For example, in our group it's french and english and a bit of German

I don´t think of it as a competition, the biggest competition is against myself, trying to get better and moving my limits step by step. Smiley But maybe I´m kidding myself. I do often get big horns (do you say that in English) when driving. I think something in my genes tells me that I have to pass the cars in front of me, and if someone passes me I do my best to hang on. And I love the speed and the kick it gives me. Until now I have not yet gone beyond my limits and run out, but of course the margins keep getting smaller as the speed exceeds. Smiley

It´s great that there are some young girls that have started driving at the NoS, and her father should get a medal. Smiley What a great chance for her. Smiley

As for your young friend, this sounds like a perfect match, go for it! Smiley

I´m not sure if your right, but thanks Gnil. Smiley

For the first time I used the cups, earlier I have always used the M Pilot sport, and one time I tried Pirelli Corsa. When I got used to them I loved the cups. In the beginning they felt as if the car was jumping sideways in the curves, but when I found out that this was ok and no problem they were fantastic. Smiley
