    Key in the ignition---battery drain

    Living in New York City I must park my truck in a public garage. Standatd operating procedure in these facilities is to leave the car with the key in the ignition.

    This would be fine except for the "battery drain" warning in the users manual!

    Any thoughts

    How long will it take to run down the battery. It's sitting in a garage draining as I write this.

    As long as you drive it daily, I don't see any problem.
    Why don't you clip the key to the steering wheel with some sort of chain, plastic ring or whatever?
    What do they do with cars with keyless go for example? There must be a solution to your "problem".

    I don't know what a Cayenne key is a traditional key, but if possible pull it out of the ignition a little bit so the car doesnt recognize the key as being inserted. This is what we do at the dealership (non-Porsche) I work at.

    Just for reference, the new Saab 93 has a strange "plastic-dangle" key and when you leave the key in the ignition on those, the car will be unable to start in 12-14 hrs I know this because onr morning, I had a garage full of new Saabs that I had brought in the night before and they were all dead.

    I tried a lanyard over the rear view mirror. As I walked in the door the telephone was ringing. It was the garage attendent telling me I had not left the key in the ignition.

    SOLUTION: A sign in english and spanish with instructions on pulling the key and how to start the car(foot on the brake)

    also continuous repition of instructions.
