    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

     Hey Guys......

I was just at my local dealer speccing my 997.2 TT , and one of the options in the transmission section was something called PVT (Porsche Vectoring Technology) or something like that, anyone know what that could be???   It was in the option section with PDK, Sports Chrono,, etc.  Could these be the ever elusive paddles we are all longing for?

Maybe it's something related to the AWD system?

    Definitely, it's not the paddles.

The information embargo will end on August 7, so all will be revealed. Little more patience!

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

    LOL...

how can this be called the 997.2 facelift?  the face is exactly the same as before! It should be called the new 997.2 with a heart transplant.

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

Thanks for the clarification Gangajas and the great link!:)

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

PVT is  a technology of distributing torque across the axles and wheels.

Some type of electronic differential, I think. The fact that it is optional means that it is not necessary for the functioning of the AWD system but that it is an enhancement.

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

Absolutely - it's main aim will be to distribute torque between rear axle wheels.

PVT could be a must. There are some other interesting options as well.

Regarding our discussion about 458 Italia and 997.2 Turbo PDK-here is why I think all different league-new 458 will be faster on all tracks and on the road. BUT, on the road only if 458 driver use all the revs. Why? More on August 7th...Smiley

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

@ Ferdie - hahaha, no man unfortunately the Punto is not mine. Other side! I was expecting paddles as well but no, the PDK buttons looked pretty much the same as before. Even with the hub on I could see the backside of the known PDK buttons...

@ Boxster Coupe GTS - I know pretty sure that Porsche willl offer a paddle version PDK soon but as far as I could tell the buttons were still the same as in the carrera. Maybe they improved sth, that was hard to tell especially because when i talked to the driver from window to window he covered what looked like shifting lights and the buttons...

@ J. Seven - like with the carrera models, there is still foil covering the tail lights..they will be the same as the carrera ones.. I guess ;)

I agree that the 458 should be faster than even the 997TT.2: the additional 60hp (compared to Scuderia) should bring the 458 to the acceleration performance of the GT2.

The 458 track performance will depend on the actual weight (vs. claimed weight), the tires and the new track oriented electronic features of the 458. If the 458 would be as fast or even slightly faster than the Scuderia all expectations would be 100% fulfilled. I look forward to the first comprehensive tests Smiley

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

What did you mean? We know that 997.2 Turbo will be a torque monster:-) and 458 is a high-revving NA supercar

The GKN + ZF system was first used on the X6. The system is configurable for AWD and RWD cars. On the Turbo it is an optional extra, as expected

Interesting discussion and excellent point. I would like to add my own experience/impression: When I drove the Ferrari F430 and Lamborghini Gallardo back to back, I noticed that even though objective numbers might be similar, subjectively there is a huge difference in favor of the larger displacement V10 of the Lambo.
The torque of the Lambo is only about 10% more (Lambo's 375 versus Ferrari's 350), but, perhaps because it comes at an earlier rpm, the engine feels a lot more muscular and to me more satisfying for street driving. I drove the Ferrari at 5000 rpm plus the whole time and still felt that the torque was missing in action. In fact the Lambo engine was the only one I've driven so far that rivals the Turbo's nuclear power plant. Not quite as torquey, but extremely satisfying nevertheless and of course with a more linear response.

Yes I know, a Ferrari is a Ferrari but the Lambo V10 is a gem and I would throw the LP 560-4 in here for your consideration as well. (The only thing about the Lambo though is that I find steering feel to be too heavy -- compared to GT2 steering for example, which feels perfect to me -- and steering and chassis feedback to be a tad "insulated," at least as compared to the F car and a Bilstein modified Turbo. In other words, there is no one perfect car. Smiley)

If my info is correct, the 458 Italia's engine's peak torque is at 6000 rpm. No problem for a track car but perhaps too "peaky" to be consistently satisfying on the street?

Yes, but you can also order the new clear tail lights, and these  were the lights the yellow Turbo you saw had.1249535719129Heckscheinwerfer_Klarglas%20(Medium).jpg

And will the new DFI TT sound better than the outgoing model, which has always been a big disappointment? So far, TT sports exhausts have just made the sound louder, not nicer. GT3s/430s etc sound sooooo much better.

a Turbo engine can never sound like a V8 or any other normally aspirated  engine.

But for who love the sound of a turbo engine, also a 997Turbo with a good exhaust can be better than any other..Smiley

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

I don't agree that 458 is in a different class. It will be a bit faster than the 997.2 turbo which is normal as the 458 a completely new car. Will it be faster than the next 911TT coming in let's say 2.5 years? I don't think so.
