KresoF1:
Regarding our discussion about 458 Italia and 997.2 Turbo PDK-here is why I think all different league-new 458 will be faster on all tracks and on the road. BUT, on the road only if 458 driver use all the revs. Why? More on August 7th...
Interesting discussion and excellent point. I would like to add my own experience/impression: When I drove the Ferrari F430 and Lamborghini Gallardo back to back, I noticed that even though objective numbers might be similar, subjectively there is a huge difference in favor of the larger displacement V10 of the Lambo.
The torque of the Lambo is only about 10% more (Lambo's 375 versus Ferrari's 350), but, perhaps because it comes at an earlier rpm, the engine feels a lot more muscular and to me more satisfying for street driving. I drove the Ferrari at 5000 rpm plus the whole time and still felt that the torque was missing in action. In fact the Lambo engine was the only one I've driven so far that rivals the Turbo's nuclear power plant. Not quite as torquey, but extremely satisfying nevertheless and of course with a more linear response.
Yes I know, a Ferrari is a Ferrari but the Lambo V10 is a gem and I would throw the LP 560-4 in here for your consideration as well. (The only thing about the Lambo though is that I find steering feel to be too heavy -- compared to GT2 steering for example, which feels perfect to me -- and steering and chassis feedback to be a tad "insulated," at least as compared to the F car and a Bilstein modified Turbo. In other words, there is no one perfect car. )
If my info is correct, the 458 Italia's engine's peak torque is at 6000 rpm. No problem for a track car but perhaps too "peaky" to be consistently satisfying on the street?
