Re: Opinions on whether Ferrari would be smart

    Rossi:
    racerx:

This car has outdone AM for beauty and outdone Zonda for exotic structure and materials. And as nice as the new 458 is, and it is, this car is on another level.

Well, this comparison isn't fair. How much is a 458 and how much is a One 77? You can't even compare it to a Zonda, since it is approximately twice (!) the price of a (standard) Zonda. Smiley

    Fantastic car nevertheless. Smiley

The 458 et al. are for millionaires and even affluent professional people. This One-77 is in the multi-billionaire class, so most of us might not even drool over it because it's bad for our health.

Re: Opinions on whether Ferrari would be smart

Don't be silly Reginos. It is pricey but it's only a car.

There are hundreds if not thousands of millionaires that own private jets that are many times more expensive to buy and certainly to own than a car.

My brothers business partner had his own jet.

I posted a vid a couple months back of a guy I knew and had gone on many rides with. He now owns a Mclaren F1, a lot pricier than the one-77, along with many other exotics. He lives in a relatively normal house. He is no billionaire.

It's only a car. 1.8 million. There are so many people living in 5 million dollar homes. Relax.

A individual with a net worth of 10 million has no problem buying this car. Billionaire toys are in the yacht thread, or the private island thread, or the sports franchise thread, or the...............

Re: Opinions on whether Ferrari would be smart

    racer:

It's not fair But it is accurate.

Price really doesn't belong in any of these discussions unless it's a thread about someone actually speccing out their own car. This is about automotive achievement and car fantasy.

Because for value, a new Camaro SS beats all of these in bang for buck and that is beaten by an owner customized 928.

But I like what Zonda has done and I like the new 458. That being said the one-77 sits at the top of the heap for material, design, sound, beauty, and desirabliity.

So I would guess that if 100 of us were taken to a nice area, say napa valley and shown 5 cars; a ONE-77, a 458, a zonda, a lambo, and a gt3. And you drive them for a couple hours. And then told you could keep 1 car for everyday use and only 1 and had to live with that 1 car with all expenses paid.

My guess is that the one-77 would win a strong majority as it excels in all categorys and is an all-rounder. The 458 would come in a distant 2nd. The GT3 would be last.

Ah c'mon racerx, don't be that naive. Of course price matters.

A car that costs seventimes as much will cost considerably more to be produced, which will result automatically in a much more advanced automotive achievement. More expensive materials, more expensive techniques will get you a more precious product.

It's not all about power or "bang for buck" as you said. Smiley

And it's only logical if you compare a One-77 to a 458, a Zonda, a Lamborhini (which BTW?) and a GT3 that the majority will choose the One-77 (most expensive and therefore most valuable) and that the GT3 comes in last (cheapest and most "normal" car) . Although I would expect the Zonda to come in second.

If you want to compare the One-77 at all and there are not many competitors out there, you should choose a Veyron, maybe a FXX (though not really comparable to the aforementioned cars) and perhaps a Reventón. Porsche has nothing that would bear such a comparison and nor have most of the other car makers out there. Smiley

My mind does not work that way Rossi, Honest.

I do not look at price when deciding which is better. I look at qualities.

But sure, include a Veyron (really ugly imo, sorry dimitri), Enzo (even uglier, 458 kicks its butt imo) Reventon (dressed up murci) and add the stipulation that the car can never be sold, so price becomes irrelevent.

The only cars close to the one-77 are CGT and Mclaren F1, imo. But F1 is not a practical car, requires gymnastics to get in and the CGT is not a luxury car and no paddles.

Plus AM always pads their prices way above what they should be.

Now that was a good laugh! I actually thought about the omission after posting, but then I realized it is a given.
