Re: My new Audi RS6 Avant

Damn that's 11.5-12L/100km of pansy 110km/h straight driving.

    Calculator: http://www.markporthouse.net/rangie/fuelconsumptionconversion.htm

Please if you have or are going to have some info for urban driving and your general usage figures! Both TT and your new beast!

Re: My new Audi RS6 Avant

My lifetime average for my Turbo is 20.9mpg currently (that's mostly back road fun where I get about 19mpg).

My RS6 since it was born is on only 18.6mpg.  Since I have had it I have been getting about 21mpg on 90% motorway, 10% urban trips.

To compare, the LP560-4 (which has a 5L V10 DFI engine too - albeit without twin turbos) gets 12/20 (urban/highway) in a manual and 13/20 with the e.gear transmission.

I want to rule out what's causing high temps in my front right tyre before I give definitive real world RS6 figures though.

That´s manufacturer´s claim, I suppose? Cannot compare them with real-world driving...

Re: My new Audi RS6 Avant

Just got back from the gym and on the way home I got a warning light for low brake fluid. The front right tyre was again 6 degC more than the front left and more than 10 degC higher than the rears. So now I am thinking the brake cooling ducts may be blocked and the extra heat has boiled off all the brake fluids. It's booked in for an investigation on Friday but I don't think I should drive the car to the dealer until I at least fill up the brake fluid.

If I'm not mistaken, it could be possible that the low break fuel caused most of the braking force to be on the rear wheels and the front right, causing the higher temperature of the front right tire?

Re: My new Audi RS6 Avant

Well I just had Audi Roadside Assistance come out and look at the car.

They found the brake fluid level was just under half full, hence the warning lights.  No leaks that could be seen.  No explanation though why the front right tyre is getting hotter than the front left tyre though.  The car isn't pulling to either side when hard braking and feels fine.

Hopefully on Friday when they do an investigation at the Audi Dealership they might find something else causing the difference.

The REALLY odd thing is that this morning from cold, the front right was still 2 degC higher than all 3 others, and 2psi more (despite me aligning them all on Sunday and verifying with 2 pressure gauges they were all the same).  Mystery!

Re: My new Audi RS6 Avant

Bad sensor? Moisture in the air inside? Deflate that tire, refill it and try again?

Did you check the hot pressure right after driving with a tire gauge to verify all 4 tires' pressure?

Re: My new Audi RS6 Avant

Yup, manually checked hot pressures too to verify what the computer is saying.  Seems to tally.

I am feeling a bit guilty over my neglected Turbo at the moment as I only want to drive the RS6 all the time!  I am having so much fun it it with the power, the engine and the fantastic Tiptronic gearbox (way better than Porsche's offering).  I suppose the weather has been pretty rubbish here over the last month so not really 911 weather.

Me and the Mrs are planning a trip up to the Peak district and another to Australia in the next couple of months, and I am seriously considering taking the RS6 over the Turbo!

...well at least I am keeping the mileage down!

Same drama here. I've never thought I am going to chose the RS6 over the Turbo so often. Other 997TT + RS6 owners that I know (quite frequent combination) report the same.

You are right about the gearbox - RS6's tip is in a different league compared to Porsche's.

Alex, is it just me or the accelerator is too sensitive when you are taking off?

Re: My new Audi RS6 Avant

It needs to be sensitive to get 2 tonnes of car to 60mph in under 4.6s! The Mrs has been caught out a few times at junctions, roundabouts and traffic lights. Me I like to stick it in Sport and embarras 'sports' cars next to me. I love it!

I tried to do a whole 30 min journey yesterday just in manual mode and soon got bored keeping my hands locked in the same position on the wheel to be over the paddles. Instead I like to just use the manual downshift paddle just before I get to a bend or want to overtake something. Blip it twice and you are off! You then get no lag from pressing the gas pedal and waiting for the computer to decide to change down.

Re: My new Audi RS6 Avant

By the way; it was confirmed to me by Audi yesterday that regular 95RON fuel is what should go in the car. Super 98RON can be used but there won't be a huge benefit. Apparently the German spec car though is different as that one does run on 98. It was confirmed though that 4.6s to 60 and 480bhp was achieved with regular 95RON fuel.

That's exactly what I do with the AM SS. Any PDK/auto box will never predict this. Maybe that's why PDK isn't for me.

Re: My new Audi RS6 Avant

It's great becuase if you leave it in D or S auto mode then after you have blipped down twice it only goes back to an auto again when it thinks the car needs to change gear.  Perfect combination!  Plus the blipping you hear the great engine noise as it matches revs, something PDK wouldn't do.

Re: My new Audi RS6 Avant

By the way, the mystery of the from right tyre getting 10degC hotter than the rears and 5 degC hotter than the left front trye could be explained by perhaps...

    1. all 4 tyres filled up with nitrogen from factory or just after

    2. front left tyre punctured or replaced and blown up with normal air

Or does the temperature of a nitrogen filled tyre increase the same as an air one, but the pressure difference is lower?

Re: My new Audi RS6 Avant

Sounds plaussible, as nitrogen runs cooler than regular air.
