Yeah, it's such a pity that Schumi's neck wasn't sufficiently strong to take the strain of driving a F1 car especially because of his motorbiking injury in Feb 09.

Many of us got our hopes up that this would inject new life into this year's predictable (and moribund) championship - and now it's such an anticlimax:

He just wanted to help his team in their time of need - sadly it wasn't possible

Kimi will breathe a huge sigh of relief - he can go back to hibernating again - I doubt Luca Badoer will pose much of a challenge Smiley

Felipe will also be happy - as soon as he is fit and ready, he can walk straight back into his race seat - without worrying whether he has been outshone by his temporary replacement Smiley

Well, Schumi was injured in February and still hasn't recovered by August so it seems unlikely he will recover sufficiently this season Anyway, I expect Felipe Massa may be back sooner than we think...

Having read other sites I find it funny that some people are bashing Schumi about his decision. At this point in his life what more does he need to prove. I'm not the biggest fan of his but I certainly don't think he was doing it for his ego. He never would have been deemed race fit anyways. There are a lot of Schumi hatters out there and I can understand many of their points but not this one. Many a posts on this board have mentioned that they felt his coming back was great for the sport and I agree. His return would have added some much needed excitement.

That's true, and I can't understand why you should bash Schumi for the decision to come back.

However, you could argue that it doesn't look very good that he now pulls back because of an injury that happened beforehand.

Surely just a pragmatic decision as a result of his test-drive?

An F1 driver's neck muscles come under severe stress during a 2 hour race. MS probably did not realize just how big the potential problem resulting from his motorcycle injury was until he recently drove an open-wheeled race car again. Smiley

I think it's ok, I knew he mentioned it. But people tend to not read the fine print and may get disappointed.

News of his possible return outweighed the small, factual details. I think it is very unffortunate for many fans and Valencia. This race could use some good news! I certainly don't feel bad for Bernie or Max who in my opinion were exploiting Schumi's return. Then again, that is the business they represent.

The thought that this may have been a publicity stunt all along crossed my mind... But on second though I don't think it was after all. It's a shame we won't see the great man at work once again. I hope Luca Badoer does a good job but I am afraid Kimi will thrash him.
