    RS Spyder Return to ALMS with Cytosport

    I have heard these comments coming from quite a few drivers. The car seems to be impressive.

    Curious to see how these three drivers line up together.

    Apparently Klaus Graf was very quick in the car. They were about 1.1 seconds off the track lap record set by Andy Wallace in 2005, on their very first outing!

    And this is what Pickett had to say : “We’re not here to go for a time, to be honest,” said Pickett. “We’re using customer Michelins for the test, so we’re saving the really impressive times for our debut with the car at Mid-Ohio.”

     

    Pickett, although very fit, is 62 years old.

    They were also testing with the 08A spec non- DFI engine.

    Interesting info! Klaus Graf is certainly among the quicker drivers but it is hard to evaluate since I am not following Nascar.

    Does Sascha Maassen take part in all of the races? Would be interesting to see these two drivers´ laptimes in comparison.

    I understand Sascha Maassen will only take part in Petite LeMans in September. Will be interesting to see if they experience the same performance problems Dyson had when racing against Penske. Penske cars always seemed to be faster than Dyson partiularly after last years race at Limerock...

    Can anyone tell me why Porsche / Penske did not campaign the RS Spyders this year, or let another privateer team have them (until now).

    I know last year a lot of teams complained that Penske was violating the spirit of P2 by essentially being a factory works team for Porsche with a P1 ready car masquerading in P2 and that Porsche should have just competed all in the P1 class.

    And if I remember, I think they were hit with either a weight or air restrictor penalty for dominating so much.

    I believe Porsche /Penske with the restrictions placed on the RS Spyder made it uncompetitive against the P1 cars and in conjunction with the loss of  DHL as the major sponsor decided to drop the program.  Dyson moved from RS Spyder to Lola powered Mazda because of Mazda Factory commitment to the program.  I was at Limerock this past Friday & Saturday and was impressed by the level of support Dyson team was receiving from Mazda.  Dyson's victory in LMP2 yesterday certainly validates the decision to move to Mazda.

    Rumor has it Penske will be back in LMP1 with the Audi R15 next year. Porsche will continue to focus on GT3 .
