    My first dreamcar

After a 3 month long search for the ideal car for me, having considered all possible options (Clio Trophy, E30 & E36 M3, 968 CS, ...) I ended up looking for a modified VX220, when an owner contacted me when selling his car, I was sold, as was the car 3 weeks later. I travelled from Brussels to York to take a look at it last week and decided to buy it and take it to the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

So of we go in my friend's 535d

After 750km's of traffic jams, we finally arrived at the seller's house in York.
First time I saw it (I was stunned)

    Sold!

I left the seller's house with my new toy and we were off to Goodwood, it was proving to be a very long day, covering to 1.400km Brussels-York-Goodwood but I had such a blast in my first hours in my new VX, charging through the UK following my friend in his 535d. At 3am we arrived at our campsite in Goodwood, exhausted but very very happy.

Stopping for gas on our way to Goodwood

The next morning I got out of my tent and had to celebrate

As some of you might know, you have to get to know an Elise/VX so hitting potholes for the first time, sweating like a pig inside the cockpit, the nervous steering, I all needed to get used to it, and now after 3 days of ownership I have, and I love it, it is so pure and honest, exactly what I was looking for. An incredible attention whore too, everybody looks at it (more so in the UK than in Belgium, here I get more negative reactions sadly).

Thanks for looking, and a last picture of the beautiful car in Goodwood on the campsite.

    Re: My first dreamcar

nice little car and great color. The  shot after detailing the head-on shot is perfect. The tree lined street in the background looks cool - what/where is it?

The new car buyers here will never know the adventure of a long distance purchase/pick-up.

    Re: My first dreamcar

    Congrats Porker - great choice..

Why the change of number plate?

Why the change of number plate?

The plate in the first pictures is a personalized item, the owner kept them for his new Exige, the current number plate is just a short term solution as it'll get Belgian licenseplates next week. Smiley

I do, it's such a full-on driving experience, especially in the rain it's so much fun, playing with its fine balance, love it!

The best looking VX I have ever seen !   The color combo is superb. I like the back with this blue. The car looks very sporty!

You do not mind having the steering wheel on the right side ? I guess on the track it makes no difference  and it will not be your daily driver ...

That looks truly stunning!  I have always been a fan of the VX220 look over the Elise.  With the black wheels, it looks absolutely stunning!  Well done.  I am sure you will be very happy for a very long time in this.

It's no real problem actually, I thought it would be more irritating than it actually is, overtaking is a little more difficult but not that much, and after a couple of days I got used to shifting with my left arm, so no trouble there either... Smiley

The car is actually my daily driver for the next 2 years, but then as a student I don't have to cover great distances on a daily basis, it just needs to get me to the classes, and to the track in the weekends Smiley

I'll be at the Nordschleife in 2 weeks.

Great looking car, tried it out when they debuted. You obviously went for the normally aspirated version. I also like your pictures, the one in the parking lot look very professional. Did you do them on your own or a photographer you are friends with?

I am curious to know why you bought your car in the UK and preferred it over the Lotus Elise - price advantage, I suppose?

    Re: My first dreamcar

Great choice Porker. Nice colour too.

    Re: My first dreamcar

That is one incredible car for a student! :)

I would have loved the turbo version but it was sadly out of reach, I know have an intermediate solution, a modified NA-engine, I have around 180hp now which is fine for this car, I feel there is an ideal balance between grip/power now. The standard engine felt to slow witted for a car like this, now it has some top end grunt as well as some torque lowdown.

The reason why I haven't gone for the Elise is mainly price, as my budget would've allowed only the lesser Elises (136hp) and I really felt they were a little too slow for decent progress on the highway. The same budget for a VX220 gave me the chance to buy one with decent performance modifications, I didn't have to think twice... Secondly, there is the image reason, as I'm a student I feel it's harder to justify having a Lotus than having an "Opel", I rather not have people talking behind my or my parents' back. Smiley

The reason why I went to the UK is because there's a much bigger market if you're looking for modified examples and secondly the exchange rate made the car a whole lot cheaper to buy in the UK, a similar one would've cost me €9.000 extra in Europe Smiley

@WAY: I will have to work my ass off to better this car Smiley

Thanks for the explanation and I agree. After all, a modified n/a-engine fits well into this type of car.

To be honest, you will always attract attention with this kind of car. No matter, if there´s a Lotus or Vauxhall/Opel bagde on it. Still, I wish you lots of fun with it.

    Re: My first dreamcar

Porker, don't forget to wave at Speedster and Elise/Exige (any lightweight car for that matter) drivers from now on  It's a courtesy habit.
