That is right up there with the Aztek. That is so god dam ugly, it has to be a joke. It reminds me of some shitbox that gm put out a while ago.
Did Nick give this thing the green light?
I Agree....
And I agree too....... a mix of so many styles .....

+1, don't like it, very disappointed.
The rear is somehow o.k. but nothing special, it looks like that of the new Z4 to me. And the front is just ridiculous, neither fish nor flesh for me. I guess that's what happens if you always try to be too much retro.
The secret of life is to admire without desiring.

i thought it was going to be a more impressive car, something... more. the SLR is a looker, and as a big mercedes this is just a big big dissapointment.

I agree racerx, its got to be really off the real thing, unless they are catering to the female buyer

MB did some testing of the car on the Hockenheimring last Thursday. The car was still covered with camouflage - thus it was difficult to identify its final looks. The car sounds very dark and mean... Not my cup of tea but definitively quite characteristic.
The car looks good but not stunning. Somehow it has the Retro-Problem, those cars (i.e. also Z8) will never be as stunning and great as it original. The further Problem is, that the view and class of the old one will suffer because of the new one.
So at the end I'm against the Retro-Cars and I think it is a real pity!

Actually, the first rendition was worse. The front MB logo was much bigger and we argued against it. They reduced it in size. I also complained about the truncated rear end much like the Z08 but the style was embedded and could not be changed. The car does have more of a presence in person.
Also, I think the convertible version looked better.
The attraction of this car will be price. Around $170,000. Great performance sound.
First Merc I've liked in years. I don't have an issue with putting a modern slant on previous designs if it's done correctly and I think Mercedes have managed it with this car. Conversely I hate the SLR as it tries too hard to take old design cues and mash them together with modern styling elements such as the awful F1 inspired nose and the result ends up as a disaster IMHO.
Porsche have got away with updating retro for years after all with the 911. They're just more brazen/stubborn about it.

I love it!!
WELL SAID!!
SLS getting lots of positive reviews :
Motortrend :
It's a safe bet the SLS will carry a sticker somewhere in the realm of what AMG has identified as its prime competitors -- the Audi R8 V-10, the Ferrari California, and the Porsche 911 Turbo. Are you thinking "to-drool-for comparison test?" Me, too.
As we wait for that high-octane matchup, know this: AMG has delivered a knockout. Like its Gullwing namesake of the 1950s, the new SLS is a seemingly over-engineered, ultra-fast, thoroughly refined coupe -- with the can't-top-this glam of those swing-up doors. It's a far, far more electrifying drive than anything I expected, too -- real race-car stuff. In fact, given how spectacularly the Gullwing flies through The Green Hell, I wouldn't be surprised to see a big yellow sticker on its tail when it lands next spring. Caution: Wake Turbulence.
There is even an incar video from Nordschleife.

I agree, absolutely horrible. I wonder who would pay that much money for such an ugly thing??!

It looks better in person though it does appear large. However, the look is clean and modern retro. If you put this car next to a Porsche, the Porsche will disappear. I am not ragging on Porsche but stating the facts. This car was shown with a Porsche TT, 430, 599, DB9 and MB63. It held its own from a styling perspective.
Just about everyone of us believed it looked substantially better than the Porsche. We were asked to rank the cars by style and Porsche came in dead last.
