New GT3 mk2 wheels - what are those clips?

Here are a few pics from various press GT3's very recently reviewed. They all appear to feature some rather strange (ugly) brass coloured clips secured by small bolts just inside the brake disk.

Anybody have any idea what on earth they are and if they will make it to the production cars??

    Recent review pics :

Interestingly some of the the earlier cars reviewed didnt show these at all - the cars all seemed to have a clip/bolt free design that was somewhat nicer to the eye!

    yellow calipers=Ceramic brakes

    red callipers=steel brakes

It's not where you're going, it's how you get there that counts

DOH - yes, of course!  Blindingly obvious now you've said it reginos, great spot!!! I couldnt see for looking - I think the sight of the clips had blinded me! Smiley

All I can say is YUK!!!!  This alone would put me off ordering PCCB's then on a GT3. What were they thinking????

Re: New GT3 mk2 wheels - what are those clips?

Are they providing some sort of spring force to reduce the amount the floating disc rattles around on the bobbins?

Different bolting patterns are obviously being used for locating and fixing cast iron rotors (red calipers) than for PCCB rotors (yellow calipers).

I would guess that this is due to a simpler system involving cutting screw threads into the rotor being used on the cast iron type, which would not be possible with the ceramic composite material.

+1 Smiley Well spotted reginos Smiley

Adam2S: I wouldn't let the cosmetic appearance affect your choice - surely performance should be the paramount consideration. Having said that, I gather that the red brakes on the 997.2 GT3 perform amazingly well so I would question the performance rationale for ordering PCCBs Smiley

For regular tracking, the red brakes are much more cost effective (cost of changing pads, discs etc)...

I wouldnt but the price of PCCB's would put me off anyway - more so than ever on the GT3 mk2 because as you say the upgraded steel brakes are supposed to be better than ever anyway.  I was just joking really (kind of), but they surely havnt done the best cosmetic finish possible here for PCCB's.

check it out the red car has them but they are tastefully covered by a cone shaped trim piece.....more trim, more pieces not good imo

It's not a trim piece. It's the new "hat" used with the latest cast iron disk rotors with radially-arranged locating screws.
