    My New Toy

Picked up the car last night.  Now I need to go through the painful process of a 1000km run in period, where I am advised to keep the revs below 4500.

Enjoy the pics.  BTW, was stressing about the sports suspension and whether it would be too hard , well am pleased to report that in normal mode, it is absolutely perfect for me.

    mabrouk...looks great.

don't worry too much about break-in...just enjoy and make sure oil is at operating temp before stepping on it.

Speed has never killed anyone, suddenly becoming stationary... That's what gets you.

    Re: My New Toy

Thanks everyone for the kind words. My challenge now is to find some decent roads in Dubai to enjoy it.  Will wait until winter before I give it some TLC with Zymol, Swissvax, etc, the snake oil Protech treatment will have to do for now.

    Cheers

    CONGRATS ! Love the color....!

    Re: My New Toy

Hey, congrats!  Enjoy in good health!  Incidentally, the Pro Tech treatment is quite good (I haven't tried out Zymol, etc.) and lasts for about a year if treated well (which I'm sure you'll do!).  I have it on my Boxster, and nearly 4 years on, it looks good as new (I get the Pro-Tech refreshed every year).  Incidentally I hope to collect my C2S next week, fingers crossed!  Maybe then we can explore some good roads in Dubai together!

Arshad, sorry but almost $1000 for a wax is day light robbery.  Stateside, I used to get a full on detail, wheels removed, paint corrected and only the finest voodoo used on the paint for around that price. But anyway, it was thrown in as a freebie, so beggars I guess cannot....

Good luck with the car, lets chat when you are in possession, and plot where there are no cameras.Smiley

    Eunice:

Run In period? I thought that is a myth?

not too sure mate, there seems to be divided opinion on this.  With all my previous cars, I drove them like I stole them straight off the dealer floor.  the exception being the E46 M3, where BMW recommends a regimented running in period of 2000kms, with oil change after that.

maybe guys on the forum can share their experiences

    Eunice:

I always run in my cars for approx. 1500 miles (2500 kms) - even if it is a myth - why not err on the safer side?  Maybe it's just psychological, but I always find a difference in the smoothness after the run-in period.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought it was necessary because all the individual parts that make up the engine are working together for the first time, and however small the tolerances, at a microscopic level, it is better to let them 'work together' for some time before gunning it.

    Oh yeah!  Nice work!

    You be careful with that!

As for break in? You can be a bit more relaxed about it. I broke in three new P-cars, a 986S, 997s and now the TT. Each time I was much less and less "by the book."

Here's the experts from "Excellence" opinion. Seems Porsche is extremely conservative about engine break in so as not to alarm guys about their oil consumption (not a good reason from an car-nut owner's perspective).

thanks for the informative post.  Will try to reach 500km before testing the rev limiterSmiley

    Re: My New Toy

The problem is not only the engine, so I would keep it under 5000 rpm for the first 1500 km and avoid longer periods of high speeds/rev figures until 3000 km.

    Btw: congratulations, beautiful car!!!

funny that. Anecdotal evidence would suggest that silver (or renditions of) Carreras are common here.  Anyhow as you have asked, attached a few more pics for you.029.JPG 035v.jpg041v.jpg
