BMW 7 with M Sport package

BMW 7 will be offered with special aero exterior kit. First pictures from testing...:

Re: BMW 7 with M Sport package

pictures are not showing, and id really like to see them

Re: BMW 7 with M Sport package

I agree. The pictures would be most interesting.

I am curious: will they develop a real M model or is this just cosmetics?

Re: BMW 7 with M Sport package

    Agreed. Smiley

So I guess it will be mainly cosmetics. Smiley

Re: BMW 7 with M Sport package

That looks clearly like M. Check the shape underneath the front light you can clearly see the intakes underneath the camo!

Not sure if I would like it on a seven, but why not.

Re: BMW 7 with M Sport package

I don't know why it doesn't show a pictures, maybe I did something wrong when I uploaded them...

This will be only aerodynamic package. Next new engine which will be introduced in new 7er will be the 354hp Tri-Turbo Diesel (it will be introduced after X5 gets it)

Re: BMW 7 with M Sport package

    oh,oh, ho! 3-turbo 345HP diesel!

DAMN.... but I can only imagine the price on that one!

How big will the engine be? 4.0?

    O.

I was wondering did BMW cheap out or made a mistake somewhere, the new M Aero package will be a ill-fitted black bra only.

Re: BMW 7 with M Sport package

It will be 3.0 6-cylinder diesel engine .

Re: BMW 7 with M Sport package

I am really curious about the technical rational for a 3-turbo engine.  Either there is a genuine technical justification or it is just another vain technical war with the other German manufacturers who are coming up with bi-turbo diesel engine.    Also no matter how many turbos and how much power/torque it delivers, it is stil a 6-cylinder engine and I doubt it delivers the same "laufkultur" as that of the petrol-powered V8 (TBC).  If one is seeking low consumption the upcoming hybrid may be the appropriate choice.  Shakal, do you know on which engine this version will be based on?

I don't have a lot of info about that engine... From what I heard it will be based on the existing six cylinder engine.  We won't see 8-cylinder diesel engines anymore. Reason is they aren't economical enough and aren't clean enough. Also this tri-turbo engine will feature Efficient Dynamics technology - including Start-Stop, Brake energy regeneration... Already 3.0sd (twin turbo) engine is good replacment for 4.0d engine, and this tri-turbo engine will be another step forward.

Re: BMW 7 with M Sport package

The 3-Turbo will be a monster of a machine. I'look forward to this one. Might also be a great implent for the sportier BMWs - 3 Series, 6?

Re: BMW 7 with M Sport package

I hope they mask the diesel sound even further!

Also what I read as a rational for giving up the 8-cylinder diesel engine is that it would be 1 block for one model (the 7-series) which makes it not profitable enough.

Re: BMW 7 with M Sport package

I'm sorry - nothing can make the new 7 look as good as the last one.

Heist, for me, the new seven is one of the most beautiful and stunning BMWs ever. Definatley on the short list for my next daily driver.

8-cylinder diesel engine could be used in X5, X6, 5 GT... but smaller (6-cylinder) twin turbo (or tri-turbo) is more efficient and got better performances. So there is no reason to put 8-cylinder diesel engine in those times. Already 3.0 diesel engine in new 7 series is big improvement, so I can imagine how great this tri-turbo engine will be.

Re: BMW 7 with M Sport package

    Great pics Shakal, thanks! Smiley

IMO the new front with the large air intake beneath the (too big) kidney looks A LOT better, since the kidney is not too prominent here. Smiley

Re: BMW 7 with M Sport package

Thanks Shakal - great shots! I like that you keep us updated what BMW is doing! :-)

I'm a M-package fan since long, but this one I wouldnt take. But as you said, its probably only an aerodynamic package and those have been in history very often a bit awkward and less beautiful.

The outgoing V8 diesel is a good engine but nowhere near as good in laufkultur as the four- or even the six-cylinder model. In fact, I have been driving in the first and also in the outgoing V8 model and the vibrations emitted are quite recognizable in certain conditions. The inline-6 will not fall short on this account.

Regarding the fuel consumption, even the V8 diesel can be driven with 8 to 10 litres at a very good pace. What this particular engine was lacking in my personal opinion is a bit of top-end power, in contradiction to the low-end torque.

Re: BMW 7 with M Sport package

PLEASE BMW, let it be the long awaited S-AMG and S8 smashing BMW ///M7.  Let it humiliate Mercedes AMG.

This should have been on the market long before any SUV's with M badges imo.

Re: BMW 7 with M Sport package

550+hp turbo V8 M7 with M-tuned xDrive in SWB, yummy.

Won't happen. BMW don't have any plans to make a M7. Performance flagship will be 7er with TriTurbo diesel engine. Also cars with TriTurbo engine will have M aerodynamic package - bigger air intakes, so this prototype could be with this engine.

Ferdie: Thats what I heard, but ofcurse I can be wrong. Maybe more reasons led to this BMW won't continue with V8 diesels. But not only BMW, but everyone will start making smaller and more efficient engines.

Lars: I hear a little about new models and I like to share that here Smiley
