Times are changing, the compeition is heating up and sales are down.
In the past, Porsche managed to keep good sales with moderate performance improvements. They can't afford to do that anymore, it is time to give back what they have held for a while, kinda like saving for rainy days...

Every car manufacturer is struggling in the supercar market, not just Porsche. And the 997.1 Turbo is still on a par in a straight line with the competition (GT-R and R8 V10) but has more exclusivity being a Porsche (and not a Nissan or an Audi)
So I don't think a huge amount more power is the answer - better handling is so it can do the NBR time closer to the GT-R. I would expect the 997.2 Turbo to have a 100-200 time of about 8.0 secs.

Same reason that a 480 hp 997.1 outruns a 500 hp Gallardo... It's a Porsche

Alex_997TT, besides HP figure you shoul look at the gearing, torque figure, torque shelf, transmission losses, aerodynamic coefficient. Only after looking at this you can do a conclusion
997.1 Turbo is MUCH faster than Gallardo 520 hp up to 200 km/h - this is the example
Jul 2, 2009 4:01:32 PM
OK so poor example, I should have used:
Car | 0-100 | 0-200 | 0-300 | 100-200 | 100-300 | 200-300 | Power (PS) | Weight (kg) | PS/ton | Source |
997 Turbo TechArt GT Street | 3.7 | 11.4 | 30.9 | 7.7 | 27.2 | 19.5 | 630 | 1649 | 382 | AutoBild |
Weights a little more than the stock Turbo and has 630 bhp. You are telling me that the 997.2 will get get anywhere near this with 100bhp less?

This Techart has less hp than announced
we have measured two heavily modified 911 Turboes TipTronic with 630 hp and 720 hp.
The first one:
0-100 - 3.3
0-200 - 10.4
The second one:
0-100 - 3.0
0-200 - 9.7
New 997.2 TTS will be advantageous due to gearing, shifting and LSD - it will within 11secs range for 0-200.

exactly! a lambo with the same power of a porsche will be always behind the turbo!!
if the 997 TT 0-200 is 12,1-12,3 sec
with PDK and 20hp MORE
from 0 to 200 you need 4 changes of GEAR it means that you will win 0,15sec(PDK) X 4 changes = 0,6 sec at least MORE the increase in POWER...
cmon guys its a PORSCHE
IMO 997TT.2 = 11,2-11,3 sec till 200km/h
997TTS = 10,9 sec till 200km/h.

I can only imagine 997.2 TTS 0-200 capabilities...
11,5 sec? will it be faster than Gallardo LP560 or SLR or current GT2? just for understanding
I will give you few numbers for both versions to speculate: 12.0s, 11.8s, 11.6s...
11.8s is the time of the current tiptronic in sport mode so it better be 11.6s for the pdk.
I predict even a faster time since the pdk seems to have done wonders to the cayman s and 997 s performance numbers with modest hp increase.

Look at the diference in 0-200 for the 997.1 Carrera S and the 997.2 Carrera S with PDK, it's almost 2.5 seonds. Surely the addition of PDK has a lot to do with that huge difference, and not just the power gains. The 997.2TT with PDK should be markedly quicker than the 997.1 unless Porsche has throttled it back due to the GT2 market.

I don't get the the PDK limit (790nm).
does it mean that the PDK can handel power reliably upto 790nm? or that 790nm is the absolute limit for the PDK, and anything higher would destory the gearbox?
hopefully it's the latter, and full exhuast + ECU tuning on the 997.2 turbo is still possible .

with ECU and exhaust you will get the limit of this PDK GEARBOX!!
997TT has 68kg TORQUE right...
997.2TT might be with 20hp 70kg
997.2 TT stage 2 ecu+exhaust 76~78 nothing more than this
this car will be a monster!
im putting my turbo to sell it, waiting the FACELIFT!
