    997.2 Turbo info thread

I think it is time for this kind of thread. I am personally interested in new 997.2 Turbo as well.

So, new 997.2 Turbo will feature for sure:

    3.8L engine

    PDK(as option)

Bigger standard brakes(the same one as 997.2 GT3)

    Not confirmed are:

DFI(or the fact the new engine is based on 9A1 generation)

    Optional SPASM

Just... I heard today from reliable source that 997.2 Turbo PDK is as fast on the Ring  as GT-R. Also, that is it way faster in straight line. More natural in drive dynamics(then 997.1 Turbo) also...

Official intro is as Andrea already posted on 21st November 2009. Car will be on IAA and possibly we will have press pics and specs even before...

But compared to what time ? The official ? Then the TT would be a real beast !!!! Smiley

    - ca. 500hp

    - revised AWD setup

I guess that SPASM is available.

IMO the big jump in laptimes on Nordschleife with facelifted Carrera S and GT3 are mainly due to their revised suspension and set-up. I would imagine that Porsche found some seconds in the second gen of the improved adaptive suspension...

P.S. Can you confirm that GT2 is out of production?

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

If you want one then you'd better hope that Porsche haven't skimped on R&D and testing before they release it given their current financial crisis.  A Turbo with a new engine with 500bhp and new PDK to handle 700Nm torque will NEED to be very well tested.

Oh and doesn't PDK imply DI A91 engine?  I thought PDK wouldn't fit with the GT1 engine.

I am not even slightly interested in a 997.2 Turbo as my 997.1 will still have more power, better sound, better suspension and better looks.  Plus the new engine can't be more bulletproof than the current one is so it will be less reliable.

So the ONLY reason to get a 997.2 Turbo is if you must have a PDK gearbox.

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

So DFI is confirmed due to PDK availability

GT1 block is too large for PDK

But Panamera Turbo PDK is ok with 650 Nm:-)

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

KresoF1, do you have any predictions on acceleration numbers?

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

    artur777:

    Manual 0-100km/h: 3.8s

    PDK 3.7s(with LC 3.5s)

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

thanks, but the figures are the same as in 997.1 turbo

    and 0-200?

    will it be any faster?

Let me correct you little bit.

Official numbers for 997.1 Turbo are

    0-100km/h: 3.9s manual

    0-100km/h: 3.7s TIP

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

    KresoF1,

    thanks for notion

but as I mentioned above the difference is within statistics range = 0.1 sec

give us pls some predictions on 0-200 time where it will be clear if 997.2 Turbo is going to obtain some advantages due to gearing and more hp.

Current 997.1 Turbo 0-200km/h is 12.8s for manual and 12.2s for TIP.

997.2 Turbo will be maximally 0.8s-1.0s faster. Say it 12.0s manual and 11.4s(this is very optimistic from me) for PDK with LC.

In acceleration 997.2 Turbo will be marginally faster then current 997.1 Turbo. Point is updated PTM, PASM and better drive dynamics...

AS fast ss GTR on the ring, and faster in straight.. Doesn't it mean still lower in the corner?

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

    thanks for the info

when will it be any info what engine block is going to be used in TT 997.2?

I dont quite confident about 9fA1 block reliability

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

Any info on when we'll see the 997.2 turbo?

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

We will probably see it in late autumn...

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

no more info on 997.2 Turbo?

I am struggling between GT3 and Turbo...

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

I just posted this on another forum but I thought I'd summarize here too:

With regards to what will be new, from my understanding it will be:

    • Probably 997.2 Turbo model (out MY2010 ie. end of this year)
    • Certainly A91 Turbo charged DI engine (producing about 500bhp and just under 700Nm torque with over-boost - as PDK box torque tolerance is this)
    • Certainly PDK (optional from Jan/Feb 2010)
    • Probably flappy paddles optional
    • Probably deletion of sports chrono clock
    • Probably Daytime running lights
    • Certainly LED rear lights
    • Certainly bigger brakes (to follow suit with 997.2 GT3)
    • Certainly bigger 'shrek' wing mirrors
    • Certainly adaptive headlights
    • Probably SPASM
    • Probably revised 4wd setup
    • Certainly option of new 'Spyder' wheels
    • Certainly an INCREASE in price despite the new engine saving Porsche at least 30k compared to the current one.

I really doubt a Sports Exhaust would be an option as Porsche tried for months to make one for the 997.1 and couldn't get it sounding good enough so they abandoned the project.  What with Porsche's current financial situation there are rumours that all R&D projects have been halted, so unless an option is already developed then I doubt it will be now.

The 997.2 GT3 didn't get the DI A91 engine as it still isn't race proven and Porsche don't want to put PDK in a GTx as manual would still be better for tracks, so no need to change just yet.  The Turbo on the other hand is primarily a GT car for Autobahn usage, so the only thing driving Porsche to make the new Turbo go around the ring faster is the Nissan GT-R!

Just speculating but other possibles include:

    - AirLift kit for raising the nose

    - Heads up display like on the BMWs

    - Night vision display like on the Mercs

    - Bang&Olufsen sound system like on the AM DBS

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

i doubt they would go for B&O as that would be the third OEM supplier next to bose, burmester.

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

    Alex_997TT,

what tuning potential will be possible to get in 997.2 Turbo (PDK and manual - both)?

will it be comaprable to 997.1 Turbo ?

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

Big unknown. I certainly wouldn't want to be the first to gamble with the new engine and PDK tollerances.

    So what could be next?

    B &W, B rinkmann, B ackes& Müller? Smiley
