Running costs of Aston Martin Vantage

Now that exotic cars and near-exotic cars are reentering the earth's stratosphere, I've been taking notice that a car I find rather alluring is not considerably much more that what I paid for my Boxster S when new! I would consider getting one at some point, but only if service costs are reasonable. So... Is running an Aston Martin more like maintaining a Ferrari or a Porsche?

Re: Running costs of Aston Martin Vantage

Err, somewhere in between.  No other sports car brand is like Porsche to be honest!

Re: Running costs of Aston Martin Vantage

yup, i think the brit cars while having improved tremendously are still nowhere near german cars in terms of quality.

Speed has never killed anyone, suddenly becoming stationary... That's what gets you.

Re: Running costs of Aston Martin Vantage

Agree intouch1.  But I was refering to just plain old servicing cost.  Over here, it's in the middle of Porsche and Ferrari, at least for the first service I had.

Re: Running costs of Aston Martin Vantage

If buying one in a private sale I assume no warranty to void by doing your own work.

Most "maintenance" could/should be possible to do on your own.

Then the questions are 1st- are factory workshop manuals available?

Are there known weaknesses with the model?

For example F1 modules on fcars break and cost a fortune.

Working on ones own car is part of the fun and total experience with owning these cars.

I do all my own work including pulling the engine out and from what i read maintenance/repair is getting common even with F360's. Becoming self-reliant with these is very rewarding.

Re: Running costs of Aston Martin Vantage

My only dislike with the Vantage is it doesn't seem to hold its value at all.

Re: Running costs of Aston Martin Vantage

Probably better to ask this question on AMOC (AM Owners Club)

    http://www.amoc.org/

One of the joys of owning a car is working on it yourself. I would love to own an older Ferrari and do the work on it myself.

An 'older' Ferrari? Be prepared to do A LOT of work in that case.... ;)

Yes, it would be a hobby for sure. Nothing that a ton of duct tape and WD-40 couldn't fix though.Smiley

Re: Running costs of Aston Martin Vantage

IMHO take Porsche yearly cost and multiply by 2.5. You won't be that far off (including tires brakes and all).

Ferrari multiply by 3-3.5, more if your car has F1 or carbon brakes.

    Kozzoloz:

My only dislike with the Vantage is it doesn't seem to hold its value at all.

It loose about the same as Bentley Maserati and various exotics, a bit more than Porsche.

But it looses a lot less than if you got a 430 two years ago (a spider was $360k, now $200k).

Re: Running costs of Aston Martin Vantage

u also need to consider how reliable the cars are.

A reliable Aston will cost u a lot less than a Porsche thats back at the workshop all the time....  (after warranty runs out)

but the chance of that happening is quite slim i guess....

Re: Running costs of Aston Martin Vantage

1.5 years, already one clutch gone on the V8 SS...

Re: Running costs of Aston Martin Vantage

    Much appreciated are the comments!

From a buyer's POV, I'm ok with the fact that the Vantage has "poor" resale value -all the better for someone to get a deal second-hand!

Reliability is important, as the percentage of time the car is in the shop affects overall running costs, too. And indeed, Porsche reliability is tough to beat. ...Can the AMV8 be driven daily as a Porsche??

Thanks Heist! I'll be sure to ask my Q's on the AMOC board also.

I use my Vantage as a daily driver...

Re: Running costs of Aston Martin Vantage

saw an am V8 conv. today in white, i really like my particular 928 a lot.

Re: Running costs of Aston Martin Vantage

    Vantage daily driver here also.

SciFrog's comments are pretty much spot on.

I pay exactly twice as much to service my 09 Vantage as my past P-cars.

Mine has been very reliable, only a flat tire tyre (my fault) so far, although there were some very minor trim built quality issues that were quickly and flawlessly rectified by my dealer.

Now that I think of it, there has been one minor issue of the car stalling sometimes when idling, but instances are few and far between.  Have not been able to replicate it in a closed environment so the dealer didn't know how to rectify that issue.

Another niggle is that the multimedia/satnav controls (mine is an 09 with the "upgraded" console) are absolutely terrible and unintuitive.  Gear knob also obstructs the primary joystick that controls the system...  an absolute ergonomic failure.

Otherwise, the car is flawless.  The beauty of the exterior makes up for (almost) anything. - Picture time

Moogle, you car is absolutely beautiful !

The only thing I never liked about AMV8s was the wheels, but yours are far better than those we usually see ;-)

Re: Running costs of Aston Martin Vantage

Moogle - this car looks great! Do you have some interior shots? Do you have the wood in the middle tunnel?

Re: Running costs of Aston Martin Vantage

@Bango: The car has the optional (09) sport pack, which includes these wheels :)

@Lars997: Interior pics attached below :)  (see how terrible the controls are? ack!) - I have the piano black fascia - I think there are only a handful of people who have wood in their vantage - its much more prevalent on the DB9.

Re: Running costs of Aston Martin Vantage

Yummie.... I like those red stichings on the black leather. Together with the Piano black it looks great!

What dont you like on the controls, the hard plastic?

Re: Running costs of Aston Martin Vantage

got to be one of the best interior pictures i have ever seen. great clarity and i also like the red stitching. Moogle you must enjoy pushing the start button. How many times have you muttered bond, james bond.

Re: Running costs of Aston Martin Vantage

Well the console is a touch better than the old one... They'll get it next time.

I have the old one, I tokk some use to it but now it is fine.

Re: Running costs of Aston Martin Vantage

Beautiful car Moogle! Thanks for the pics.
