I would definitely go with the newer car. 3.8L with 8,500rpm redline and improved handling, brakes, seats, wheels, etc. I can't think of one area that would favor the older RS (weight difference is minimal). The new car makes a better road car with optional lifting front and dynamic engine mounts.
On the track, the new GT3 should be considerably better too (much more downforce, better cooling).
New car should fix the leaking RMS issue too...

I am buying an MKII. I think at the end unless you are a very dedicated driver prefering raw thrills and being able to deferentiate between an RS and a GT3 you are better off getting a new car to your specs and enjoying the experience. Realistically few of us can honestly say we would be better off with an RS because of the single mass flywheel and the slight changes in grip /suspension.

Definitely MK II
The 997.1 RS offers a bit more emotions for the enthusiast compared to the 997.1 GT3, but in terms of performance there is no real tangible advantage.
997.2 GT3 will be newer, faster, better handling than both (997.1 RS / 997.1 GT3)

you actual solution to the problem is mkII GT3 RS.....
LOL :) You know, if I had the money to stretch to the MkII RS, that'd be THE answer. Sadly... well, you know...
Where I live, the import duty alone is 328%. Yup, that's three hundred and twenty eight percent. So, if I buy a 100,000USD car, put tax on top of that, I'd pay 428,000USD total.
Yes, I live in a country terrible for buying performance cars. However, there are people with CGT's and GT2's here. Just incredible.

I think it's _actually_ meant to be 80% but a long, long time ago, someone c0cked it up and now no-one can change it cos it'd be a major change in income for the govt. or something silly like that. In a word, it's all very... ghey...
I think the MkII has the old car beaten in everything but the looks. The MkI GT3 is just so much better looking. Even the new steering wheel is wrong.
As it is, I am happy to have bought the MkI GT3. Perhaps the MkII RS will be the natural stepping point for me. I wouldn´t upgrade to a MkII just for the hell of it because the looks don´t do it for me. But if the new RS is differentiated even more from the GT3 than in the MkI generation, it will be something to think about.
