    Lightweight & Sports bucket seats

I remember from the days when I used to race cars that it is possible to adjust the recline on proper racing buckets 'cos the seats normally come with a number of holes on the sides of either the shell itself or the bracket/side mounts.

Is it possible to make such adjustments with either the Sports bucket or the Lightweight bucket? They look really quite up-right imo (never seen them in the flesh, however) and also Woman likes to have a bit of recline in her seat.

    Thanks in advance Smiley

Re: Lightweight & Sports bucket seats

The additional holes you refer to are generally in the metal side brackets of competition cars, as the moulded bucket seats only have one set of threaded  "hard-points" for the fixing bolts.
They are not generally available on street-legal cars. I doubt anyone would want to get involved in the potential bag-of-worms arising from enabling people to mess around with critical safety-related items like correctly bolting a seat into a road car.

Re: Lightweight & Sports bucket seats

     Cheers for the reply :)

I'm basically talking about the seats Porsche offers in the 997.2 GT3 and whether or not there will be any degree of adjustability via the holes in the brackets (in the older seats I had, here were several holes in the seat, but I guess these are real old GF ones).

The seats Porsche offer are named the same as the topic here. I've never seen one in detail so i'm wondering whether they are adjustable or not. I don't see any problem really, if Porsche were to provide brackets with several holes in and for example "STRONGLY RECOMMEND" and a dealer bolts the thing in for you or something...

Re: Lightweight & Sports bucket seats

As far as involving a dealer is concerned, I wanted to raise seats by about 10mm in a 924 and in an Alfa many years ago to improve the driving position for my wife. The official dealers I spoke to didn't want to get involved at all, even with  "properly engineered" adapters, because even these small changes would have rendered the cars illegal since they would no longer have complied to those models' Type Approvals.
They would have been "liable" in the event of the changes being detected at a routine TÜV safety inspection, or even worse, after an accident.

Don't know what country you live in, but you may be confronted by the same situation.

Oh man, that sucks... yeah, i guess at the end of the day, nobody wants to stick their neck out should the worst happen. Cheers for the replies, fritz.

Re: Lightweight & Sports bucket seats

May I ask where you live? You should try out these seats first and re-consider if you do need a difference in recline.

Re: Lightweight & Sports bucket seats

The thought did cross my mind, however, apart from a few CGT's there isn't anything else with the lightweight bucket seats that I could try :(

And I doubt those CGT owners would let me sit in their cars... P-cars are few and far between around here and mine would probably be one of the first 997.2 GT3's (should I decide on it) so it's all a bit umm at the moment...

I'm willing to bet that there's quite a recline on the seat since they _should_ have allowed room for a European-size person in a race suit and a helmet. But it would be nice, as you suggest, to make sure... oh well...

Re: Lightweight & Sports bucket seats

I sat in a C2S fitted with sports bucket seats last week and my overriding impression was that whilst they were very comfy they were actually already reclined a little too much for my ideal position! That said I did notice the array of holes underneath and thought at the time they looked like they could be adjusted. Maybe these were already adjusted to recline (I didnt check), but if that was the standard setting they certainly dont need to recline any more.

Do people think that a lux-spec GT3 should have sports or adaptive seats and that the two kinds of buckets should only be put in clubsport spec cars?  Would the Sports buckets in a lux-spec daily driver be a bad idea come resale? I love the look of them and they were comfy but at the price of them its a bit of a double whammy if they cost a fortune to buy and hurt residuals....

I really need to arrange a test drive in the C2S they have I think before it sells as Sports buckets seem as rare as ........

Re: Lightweight & Sports bucket seats

I'm not entirely sure they hurt residuals. Actually, I don't know if they do, but I can't think of a reason they would(?). Granted, it's unlikely they'd add to the re-sale value quite the same as they do when you add them to a new car but if I were to buy a second hand GT3, I'd look at the state of the seats (worn, scuffed, etc.) rather than the 'type' of seat.

Personally, I think Porsche should offer only the sports seats then only one type of bucket seats for the GT3 and save themselves - and buyers in turn - the costs of offering 4-5 types. My thinking is that the standard seats are (or should be) adequate for road use and the Porsche buckets can be for those who track their cars on occasion.

If you're seriously tracking the car, get it with standard seats to save the cash and spend the difference on a non-Porsche race seat. They should be just as good (I haven't seen the Porsche seats in person, but have seen many race buckets in my time) and come in a range of prices to suit your wallet. And even your helmet if you want to use Hans.

Anyway, thanks for the info :) If they can be adjusted by that bunch of holes you mentioned then they should be just what I'm after :) I'm very much of the long-arms-short-legs persuasion so more often than not, I sit closer to the pedals but further from the steering wheel than most.

Re: Lightweight & Sports bucket seats

Im not going to track the car but I dont want to put in a mix of lux items with buckets that people find "odd" and therefore damage my chance of selling it easily.

Im pro the sports buckets because the just look fantastic in the flesh. The Carbon finish on the backs really is stunning and I imagine they will look perfect in a GT3 with the carbon pack. I would turn against them if I find them uncomfy for prolonged drives or just too difficult to get in and out of every day on the trek to work.

Re: Lightweight & Sports bucket seats

See what you mean, mate. It's kindda hard to decide which options are too 'soft' for cars like the GT3 and I suppose if one goes too far in that direction, it would be more difficult to sell.
