thanks for posting, but
that sound has no magic just loudness really, for a 12 cylinder the F50 rules followed by Mclaren F1,
for all cars the CGT with or without straight pipes rules,
and for 8's, it is my car, and I prefer my 8 cylinder sound to a 12 because of the rumble and burble that only a V8 can do. (similiar to that maser gt video)
Here is the F50 in Paris, had this on my comp for years;
Generally speaking, I'm not a big fan of the Carrera GT without its factory exhaust.
The engineers designed it with Hemlholtz Resonators to give it that very unique and distinctive high pitched wail like the older F1 cars. It's immediately recognizable and signature.
That said, there's one CGT that I've heard without the factory exhaust that I do love - the Gembella Mirage GT (CGT tuned)
Every time I see this clip, I cream just a little in my pants.
Be sure to check out the 1:11 Mark and 1:24 Mark

Agree RE: CGT but you think a 928 sounds better than an 8 cyl Ferrari (CS)????
Well okay it is an opinion after-all. Not one that I share but.......

Stradale - by now you have had the chance to catch on to my ways. I am very analytical and un-emotiional in my thinking. I call a spade a spade, so to speak.
I don't think A 928 sounds better than your manesake or a AM V8 or a Maser GT, or some 60's muscle cars.
But MY 928 does.
It is not just me, it gets attention and praise from all who hear it, including 928 owners, relatives, friends, neighbors, strangers. All positive I might add.
An experienced US car mechanic who graciously lent me one of his bays for me to service my tranny said it sounds like a big block!
There about 10 different 928 engines, with different displacement 2 cams vs. 4 cams, CIS vs. FI, and different valve sizes and compression levels.
It is accepted fact in 928's that the 84-86 euro LH motor is the sweetest.
The lopey cams, the tuning I have done, the RRFPR's and my exhaust all contribute. Twin dual Stainless exhaust with HI-FLOW 4 inch stainless circular cats make it almost like straight pipes, yet no highway drone.
Because of all this I DO HAVE the sweetest sounding V8 I have ever heard. and I have heard just about all including driving a Stradale.
You have not heard MY 928 so you can not form an opinion.
My car has the ballsiest, meanest, yet pleasant exhaust note of any car except a CGT. Makes every drive a thrill. been too long.

I've heard plenty of modded 928's before, awesome sound, I like the way they sound stock too but just doesn't compare imho to the sound of a Ferrari V8 like the CS. So in not so many words you like the sound of your 928 best. It's not crazy, like I said; I cant argue because it is opinion.
You also said you think your 928 is a better/more fun track car then the Stradale too, that's also opinion but maybe you're a tad biased? Or do you think the majority of people would rather drive a 928 vs a Challenge Stradale on the track?
Hey, do you get a lot of 928 "Tom" jokes?

No I never said it was a better track car, never had it on the track. It's a GT, not a track specialist, though a lot have been made into just that.
I just said it was more fun to drive. It has a lot of low end torque and with the LSD can push you into the seats after a little wheel spin.
There really is a lot of variation in the different 928 models in sound and performance. There were only 750 euro LH versions imported over 3 years and many are no longer.
It's been in storage since the land hunt began, and will stay in storage till the house is somewhat finished.
A stock 928 is barely audible, an aftermarket muffler does very little.
You have to hear 1 that has been owned by someone that knows what they are doing before it sounds good. Headers, X-pipe, custom tubes, RMB will sound good.
Then there is mine.
this guy has the same model 928 as me and has spent a boatload of dough making it the ultimate 928, engine work, F50 brakes.......... and made these headers (same engine as mine)
The best track video
928 destroys 911s at road america
Right, the 928 is more fun to drive than a Challenge Stradale. Guess it all depends on what your meaning of fun is, is

I just watched your video of the CS. Yes it's nice and a lot to like. I did enjoy driving it. The best part is the paddle shifting.
BUT even while driving it, it had the historic 8 cyl fcar weakness - lack of low end torque,
The sound is nice too but kind of that high pitched scream with no meat behind it.
That is because it is a little engine relatively speaking at 3.6 litres.
The new model will sound quite different I imagine at atleast 4.5 litres.
It is very nice, but with the 928 you get the handling and much more grunt and luxury and comfort and deep mean sound and the the HEADLIGHTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
they are both good, and I have driven both, and easily can say the 928 is the car for me. Plus a 928 can be made much more powerrful and faster than a CS if it is desired.
Here it is stradale
when my 928 coasts up to a stop sign, it rumbles and burbles like a 60's cuda, and no one mistakes that there is omething unique there.
If I nail the gas, it screams louder and DEEPER than a stradale ever will up to redline.
Kind of like a lion to one of your cute puppies.

Yeah I guess if you hate the way F1 sounds then it's not your ticket.
The 1995 928 GTS was 63 bhp/liter , the CS is DOUBLE that.
Like I said before the feel of the 928 reminds me very much of my first car a 1974 Camaro. Same front engined, rear wheel drive heaviness/numbness & lack of power . It's a pretty slow car. You were right to highly modify it, it needs it. If the CS feels weak to you then a stock 928 must have felt like a yugo. Even the most powerful late 1995 928's were still down on HP and overall performance when compared to the CS & the 95 928 GTS is 500+ lbs heavier. I'd take the CS to beat the crap out of any stock 928, it's not even a contest.
4.0 0-60 (CS) vs 5.0 (928)
12.1 (CS) vs 13.7 (928) - big difference.
But like you said it's a GT. And compare a 928 to a F430 or F430 Scud, well dont want to be mean.
But that's what's great about the F430. My F430 feels just as fast if not faster than my Turbo which has 505 ft lbs of torque, especially on the open road. It's not just about torque, it's the right combo of everything. That's why the F430 feels stronger than my Turbo in the upper rev ranges.
Both cars can be heavily modded so not really a point there.

I guess you've never heard a CS w/ straight pipes.
Even stock the CS sounds better than any 928 I've ever heard & definitely better than that 928 in your vid, that sound was ZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz!!!!!!!!!
The redline on the 928 is what? 5700? I'd hardly call that screaming. CS red line = 8500rpm. The CS screams, it has entirely different levels as it goes up the rev range. No 928 can compare. When people talk about cars & how they sound re: a symphony. It's not coincidence they're mainly referring to Ferrari or Lambo. Porsche 928's arent usually included in that same conversation but there's a first for everything.
"Deeper" like a 60's, maybe 70's muscle car , as opposed to F1? Got it. No doubt for it's day the 928 was a sick car, it just doesn't do if for me anywhere near the CS, 430 or Scud. The Ferrari 355 is probably a better car to compare the 928 to but yet again in the sound dept I cant see how stock or modded a 928 has a better sound track than a 355! Yuuuumm !!!

Redline on my 928 and all that I know is 6200 GT is 6400
Torque:
my 928 ---------- 310
928 GTS ---------370
stradale ----------275
Torque is what pushes you the CS is anemic there
I didn't post those Vids for sound, just track video's
0-60 is all about gearing and that was never the intent of a 928, its not for senna wannabes
My car is using the first generation Bosch FI hardware and software, cut it some slack on 0-60, but 5.1 is quick enough and it feels faster than the stradale.
Its childish of you to use some camaro comparison the 928. It is front engined but REAR TRANSAXLE giving it perfect 50-50 weight distribution, combine that with the low center of gravity and the width and you have one of the best handling cars on the road. Certainly capable of anything 99% of drivers will ever attempt.
Technically it is as advanced in materials as you will find today the Alusil block, the magnesium intake, the aluminum body, weissach axle.
As for sound I have been on a ride with tommy hilfigers 355 challenge racecar and it was nice, but I prefer mine.
HOW FAST DO YOU NEED TO GO????????????????
for less than 20K you can go this fast and still be in the best engineered and most beautiful GT ever built.
As far as sound why dig up all of the history of Ferrari, you have already admitted that the PORSCHE CARRERA GT is the BEST sounding street car ever as have I.
That contest is over, and its because the CGT has Displacement and RPM's.
When Porsche wants it can kick ferraris but, and MY car was the BEST car built in the 1980's and i am happy with that.
Take a listen to the 917 vid i posted here a while ago. Porsche is as rich as ferrari with history going back the auto union racers of the 30's and beyond.
Why didnt you mention stock 928 hp figures? What are they like 60hp shy of a CS? The 928 is also like what 600lbs heavier? More? 1/4 mile 13.7 (FOR THE FASTER 928 GTS) compared to 12.1 for the CS. And the CS is a track oriented type car w/ a very high red line, it's not a low rpm torque monster like the Turbo. So like I said if the CS felt slow to you, the 928 feels like a yaris. Not only that the CS is 20 mph faster on the top end too.
If torque was more important than HP how do explain acceleration F430 vs Turbo? They both have approx the same HP but the 430 has 120 ft lbs less torque, that's 4 TIMES less compared to the difference 928 to a CS so how does the F430 keep up? I can tell you my F430 is just as fast if not faster than my Turbo on the open road.
Sorry if it's childish but I think my modded Camaro had very similar specs, etc to the stock 928 GTS, even the weight of the cars & engine size is dead on I think and especially the layout (front engined, rear wheel drive) that's probably why the 928 reminds me of it.. My Camaro had hooker headers leading directly to mufflers, no pipe whatsoever, aggressive crane cam, edlebrock high rise intake, Holly 750 double pumper, electric fuel pump in the rear, mechanical up front, Nos. That thing was deep & burbly sounding too.
re; "how fast do you need to go" I'm not the one that brought up power, you did. A simple comparison shows the CS is faster in every regard but you felt it was sluggish. And it's advantage on a track is even further but you think the 928 is more fun to drive. If you know your car does 5.1 0-60 & think it feels faster than a CS, I dont know what to tell you, obviously it's not. But I guess that explains a lot. Maybe it's too loud.
I'm not trying to put down the 928, like I said for it's day it was pretty extraordinary,,,,,,,, the GTS was fastest car in 1995 I think, right? And it sounds like you improved quite a bit on that! But IMO it's no CS & it's definitely no 430 or Scud. But different strokes for different folks, right?
Gotta run!

Just a few points my euro version 928 weighs 3150 lbs.
It is front engined rear drive like a fcar 599 but the key is that the transaxle (the transmission) isin the rear connected by a torque tube thus spreading the weight over both axles 50/50
Not like that in the camaro, tranny up front attached to engine.
Gearing and weight account for the performance difference;
2822 lbs for CS vs my 3150 vs 3520 for 928GTS
If i removed 330 lbs. from my car it would be quicker, but there goes the luxury and solid (heavy) feel.
Gearing the CS has 6 speeds vs. my 4 speed auto box (plus the speed of shifts)
Give my 928 2 more gears and much lower gears for taking off and have them all close and you get the power down much more efficiently
I'll take my engine with 330 lbs less weight and 2 more gears and make up that 1 second time difference.
The 928 is an amazing machine and mine is 24+ years old and still beats lots of brand new sports cars in acceleration and easliy in handling and top speed. Not to mention looks, build quality, and sound.
But comparing a camaro to a 928 is comparing a fiero to a stradale.
Hey put 700 lbs. of weights in a stradale and see how it does against a 928 GTS.
I like all these cars but when you understand the engineering and quality and actually drive them, there is nosubstitute for a good 928 for me.
360 CS - finesse
Camaro + US muscle cars - power
928 - finesse + power
