Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

    OK  Enzo ,

    998  -   WB  2390 mm     L  4380 mm                                 997 -   WB  2350 mm     L   4435 mm

This is only approximation based on pics. -  all in all , this two cars are nearly indentical in size .

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

Look at that cab top.  That is obviously not the same as present/past design.  No rib lines AT ALL.  Could this be hiding a solid metal cab top?  Or is it just WAY smoother design than ever??

....the overall shape of the 998 already looks better than the 997.

...the cars also have bigger disc's than before.

Wonder why they would test such small brake discs initially?

maybe its not the Turbo? I mean it might be to early to Test the Turbo, since it normally comes out later in the Model cycle. Also the side vents are fake. Maybe its just the next 911?

Re: 991 - Spy shots Thread Closed

    Ed,

yes..maybe are also the silver rims that let looks cleaner the car..

i hope instead they start to take off some camo soon...Smiley

Yes, I reckon myself that this is the 991 Carrera - I speculate that all the models in the range will have Turbo style side vents and front bulging fog lights.  Plus I would say all 991's will be more wedge shaped from front to rear (which is a shame as I like how the 997 rear slopes down).

If they do that, the 997 mk2 will become the new 993...

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

The 991 looks great at first, but after a while looks like the 997 mk2 has a more classic look, especially the rear window, which is bigger, more like the original. And the 997 headlights are just perfect and I don't think Porsche will use it again for the 991.

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

I wonder why there's camouflage in these 2 places:

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

That´s not camo, certain gaps in the body need to be covered for high speed running at Nürburgring. If not too much noise and you can´t hear the real plroblems that the car may have. Remember that this being prototypes they don´t have all the needed trim that isolates noises in a production car.

I think they are hiding the fact that this will be the first 911 hard top convertible !!!!!

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

That is indeed a great explanation, at least for the cover on the windshield. At the side I would have thought that they should cover the clearance between chassis and the part that swings up to reveal the roof:

Who knows, maybe the camo covers the rest...

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

they are taping it off for wind noise and/or deflection.

I don't know it may just be the picture but it looks like camo. Could there be any surprises with the cabrio roof?

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

Reginos, that can be a posibility of a metal roof..... I hope Porsche will stay "classic" with a soft top.

IMO the only possible surprise with the cab roof could be a metal folding hard top beneath.

I'm not sure, if this would be a positive surprise. Smiley

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

Anyway, the fabric in the picture doesn't look like a normal soft top.

IMO the best scenario would be to offer both, a fabric top and a folding metal one. Places like California where many people never put their cabrio top up would be happy with fabric but for many european countries a metal top would be welcome due to climate.

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

maybe that fabric is glued to a normal coupé, just to confuse us a bit

I would not be happy with a folding roof on the Carrera. Too heavy and the back of the car would have to become fat, in order to contain the roof.

This car is true ' soft top ' cabrio - look at a flap / cover  over the roof storage trunk

    canvas top.jpg

On this pic. , visable folding creases on canvas

    canvas roof only.JPG

Porsche will stay with their standard combination of  ' soft top '  convertables and  ' hard top '  as accessary option .

Obviously , metal  ' skeleton '  and folding mechanisam of this , very taught roof , is something completely new .

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

Guys, I guess that we see the same element the current Convertibles have in the front, also on the back parts. As you know, the front has a solid frame underneath the soft top. If you can see, the lines for the top-storage are running completley different as today.

Maybe there is a carbon fiber roof, hiding under the fake cab top??

No way enough real estate for a 1) rear engine 2) 2+2 PLUS 3) hard top convertible. Porsche has already commented on this.

Here are some brand new spy pics in high quality from www.carpassion.com . Smiley

You can clearly see how many details are actually fake, of course the side air inlet (we knew that already), but also things like fog lights, fenders etc.

The guy who took the photos also said, that the roof almost looked like a fake cloth "glued" on something that hides beneath.
