Re: R8 5.2 FSI vs 997 Turbo Auto Zeitung

I want true sportscar that can be driven daily.

IMHO only car that fullfill that criteria is 997.2 Carrera S equiped with SPASM, PDK and SC Plus. It is very fast, can be driven daily and is cheaper then similary equiped 997.2 GT3 for example.

Track usage? For my two times a year track driving I can find rent solution.

Ordinary daily driver that can be used by my wife as well-probably something like new Golf VI GTI DSG...

Re: R8 5.2 FSI vs 997 Turbo Auto Zeitung

997.2 Carrera S with all the options is very smart weapon really:-)

You wouldn't regret:-) People should try different brands and not buy always the cars from one producer, becuase in different tpriods different producers are on their edge

Re: R8 5.2 FSI vs 997 Turbo Auto Zeitung

Just, I made my decision-it will be R8 5.2 FSI manual. I got more info from my Motorpresse friend today(Hockenheim) and I am please with them.

BTW, I think that R8 5.2 FSI is fast enough in straight line... Check out this video(start is not the best possible)...

Kreso, If I had a new R8 V8 like you do, which you haven't really driven for a long time, I wouldn't jump into the V10 so soon.

OK it is a step up from your car in certain areas but practically it is the same to your current car which you haven't used or enjoyed that much.

My opinion don't rush, keep driving and enjoying your R8 for sometime more and new models will keep appearing all the time. When something special appears again you can make your move.

I am puzzled little bit with 997TT weight figure. 1520kg is BELOW official Porsche figure. In fact 65kg below... Is that red 997TT with Schalensitze?

No, the test car was equipped with regular sport seats. Maybe a misprint?

Go and email Autozeitung, I'm curious if and what they'll answer. Smiley

btw they mention a tank capacity of 76l (and an autonomy of more than 600km...) , did I miss something ? I thought it was 67l  Smiley

BTW, that press 997 Turbo is little bit too fast... Very, very healty press car...

No Mike, 5.2 has a top speed of 316 kph, R8 4.2 reaches 301 kph.

Awesome! I didn't know if the V8 was limited either. Seeing as they are Audi's I just thought they would follow the normal protocal.

Re: R8 5.2 FSI vs 997 Turbo Auto Zeitung

Not that I am a GTR fan or something but does not this show that Porsche also provides press with healthier cars than regular production.  If I remember correct Nissan was crusified here for it.  Not that Audi can say something about it since Porsche owns them and Audi is most probably greatful that Porsche is letting them bring out the V10 version.

Side note:  I own a Porsche and I do not believe in brand loyalty, I love automobiles in general with the fact that I love fast ones more

Looking forward for you guys to post AMS test of R8 5.2FSI with a summary in English please

Re: R8 5.2 FSI vs 997 Turbo Auto Zeitung

There are always variations between individual cars of the same model. Even EU regulations allow a minimum variation in engine output of some 5%, I think. Also any technician/test driver who drives many seemingly identical cars can verify this fact.

Therefore, performance discepancies are not a sign of foul play. However, a manufacturer may send examples with the best engines to be tested (which is fair enough IMO), but not artificially boost an engine merely for the Press (which was the allegation against Nissan).

As regards Porsche brand loyalty from my experience it is one of the highest in the world and not only in the case of automotive products alone. Of course there are also plenty of floating buyers that switch brands according to various criteria which is again a very legitimate and healthy way of spending their cash.

Regarding AMS test-I will have that issue later today(read tonight) in my hands. I heard over the phone some results, but I will post it when I got magazine in front of me.

If some member from Germany gets it before just post all test results in this thread.

Am I the only one who thinks that MKII GT3 is very ugly with that huge hasty rear wing and MKI GT3 is more handsome.

Well, technically MKII is way better, but in terms of look I prefer MKI except the rear LEDs.

Re: R8 5.2 FSI vs 997 Turbo Auto Zeitung

IMO, 997.2 Carrera S with race buckets, PDK, LSD, SC is a very reasonable car which would be very good both at track and DD.

On the other hand, I had driven R8 V8 and I like it better than my ex-911 Carrera S.

Both the interior quality and handling behaviour are better than 911, IMO.

So when you put the R8 V10 into equation, if the money is not important, I would have choosen it over 997.2 Carrera S and 997.2 GT3 (since you are planning to have only 2 track days every year.)

Also there is one more thing and that is, I don't know how you drive, the test numbers are coming from semi-professionals drivers and some cars are more difficult to drive faster (such as an F360 Modena or 997 GT2) than other cars (such as E46 M3 CSL or Nissan GTR).

So even if the Turbo is faster than R8 V10 by little, I believe R8 has better manners that will give you more fun; especially on spirited driving instead of track days.

Re: R8 5.2 FSI vs 997 Turbo Auto Zeitung

    And one more thing:

Evenif the new facelifted Cayman S with PDK + LSD + SC is a very good driver's car, it is a small car (the interior is smaller than my TTS) and very expensive car (almost as much as an M3 coupe which is a better all around package).

And top of that, R8 looks like super sports car especially when it is put next to a 911; doesn't matter if it is a GT3, Turbo or 4S. And Cayman S next to them is inferior.

Actually R8 (at least with V8 engine) has very good manual box, gated shift is precise and the clutch is lighter than 911.

However, my choice would be R-tronic, too; but it is not an option for you Kreso, I know Smiley You don't even prefer Scuderia F1 superfast box over manual Smiley You are a "stick and 3rd pedal" guy Smiley

Final specs are decided-manual, Ceramics, 19" Titanium etc. Just need to choose the exterior color-either Suzuka Grey Metallic or Monza Silver Metallic(which is Audi Exclusive item). Delivery-late August 2009.

That Suzuka silver with titan. wheels and carbon side panels look AWESOME

Since you won't track the car regularly, why will you pay for the ceramic brakes ?? And they are more expensive to replace.

This car is drop dead gorgeous, IMO.

Ceramics are better for high speed autbahn and spirited windy road driving. Normal brakes are better for track driving(some members here can explain in-depth why).
