But why, oh why did BMW have to burden this "sports car" with the unecessary weight of a folding metal hard top - I'm guessing here but it must be at least 150 - 200kg heavier than a rag-top. And this weight is high up in the car, the very last place you want weight!!!!!
Further proof that BMW haven't a clue how to make a proper sports car - and I love BMW's - they are probably the worlds best mass produced engine builder by a clear margin and my 123d daily drive is one of the best cars I've ever owned.

Last rumour I heard is that BMW will likely built coupe version too. Reason for that is many current Z4 owners complain about heavy weight of new Z4.
I think Audi did better job with chassis, Audi TT 2.0 TFSI is 200 kg lighter than Z4 23i, even TTS is lighter than Z4 23i.
I would be very happy if this is true. I like this car very much and would love to see a coupe version which is much lighter.
Any idea of when to expect it?

V6, V8 or V10?
Coupe will seperate to a roadster - it will be lighter, lower, stiffer with different design features like bigger air-intakes, rear diffusor, ducktail spoiler... BMW already tested Z4 with fixed roof (roof was covered with black tape, so we thought its folding hardtop roof).
But I still have high hopes for upcoming Z4 , in this video it seems well balanced in corners. Next month I will have a test drive, I hope I will like it...

Thats great news. Imagine the performance and handling with 150-200kg less weight.
When will this be confirmed? How do I convince BMW to hurry this up??
According to my source, Z4 with fixed roof was better to drive than roadster with folding hardtop roof. Thats logical, because its stiffer and lighter.
Maybe I will rather buy a TTS with 7 speed Stronic for this summer than Z4... will see after test drive..
Information on audi forums says the car is already on insurance databases in germany with final specs.
Can you tell me more about the new z4 coupe? If as you suggest it will have larger intakes, spoiler etc will it be an 'M-sport' type package and what of the Z4 M version?

Sorry I don't know anything else. Probably my source doesn't know much more, because he works on different car and some team doesn't have detailed informations what other team is doing on other project...
BMW knows that many people complain about Z4's weight, so likely they will built a coupe version. It was already tested on Nordschleife and feedback was positive.
Saw a new Z4 a few hours ago in Dark blue - really great looking car. Challenges the M6 as my favorite looking BMW.
Really something on the road.
+1 really like it in the dark blue. Probably the nicest new BMW along with the 135i

indeed shifting is ancient technology - so is a fuel burning engine.. I happen to like both :)

Any news as to whether we'll see a Z4M? My 1998 Z3M is great and I've not been tempted to replace it with the first two Z4 generations, but the new Z4 is bowling me over
Z4 M is coming next year i heard from my local bmw dealer. There are spyshots on the web already so i think its a certainty.

As far as I know, Audi can't use 7 speed S-tronic with TT platform because of the engine replacement..

I meant 6 upshifts + 1 reverse You're right, later after I posted that message I took a closer look on TTS. But at the end I didn't bought anything...
