Sports Exhaust System for 997 Carrera/Targa FL

The engineers of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, have developed a new sports exhaust system for the latest generation of the 911, available as an option on new models as of February 2009. This special exhaust gives the customer the opportunity to adjust the 911 to his individual, personal preferences also in the car’s particular sound: At the touch of a button the exhaust system switches over to a sporting and emotional sound generated in particular whenever the driver prefers a truly dynamic style of motoring.

The new sports exhaust system is made of modified stainless-steel main silencers and stands out clearly through its two dual tailpipes in unique design. The heart of the system is the exhaust flap on each main silencer activated by the engine’s electronic control system and switching over to a more sporting sound as soon as the driver activates the sound mode. The system itself is activated by a separate button in the centre console varying the sound of the exhaust as a function of engine load, road speed and engine speed.

The Euro base price of the sports exhaust system is 1,610 Euro excluding taxes. In the US the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) is 2,500 US$. Starting in April 2009, Porsche will also be offering a Tequipment version for retrofitting.

i gotta say, first I was doubting a lot of the looks, too much tunning design, but i dont know why I'm starting to like it, and for sure, it will make the car sound, as it should be !!!, can't waiiitt

I'm awaiting delivery in April of a 997 with PSE. Apparently the standard "hack" is the simple disconnect of a vacuum line, a non-permanent modification. This results in "always on" status.

Search on Rennlist or 6speed for instructions.

Not a big issue, but my originally February built CS4 Cab has been pushed back into April, I assume PSE has caused the delay.

I have a C4S w/PSE for a March build. Car ordered in January. After reading this post I called my dealer and he confirmed, as of today, my car was still set for the March build.

We can do nothing until we see it.

ps. He also sells Mercedes and was just contacted retarding a custom order for a SL550. The factory cancelled the last two months of production because they felt they had enough in the US market. Some recession!!

As we know the order guides list what is potentially available. The dealer configurator may add or subtract options on a continual basis. The PSE may have been available to order in Jan, but was not available when I placed the order. That may change before the production becomes finalized. The dealer stated that while the March build is still planned, their PCNA rep has informed them that Porsche is constantly assessing production schedules and build dates may change.

I never got this. Why are some parts not available for couple of months after introducing a car. Do they still wait for authority confirmations?

I cannot judge by your pictures. Too close up and out of the overall context.

Anyway, my car has done 4000+kms now and it sounds much bettter than when brand new. If it continues like this for the next 4000kms, I might save the cost of PSE. Perhaps if the PSE only gives a different sound and no PS, it could be a waste of money and another elaborate thing on the car that could go wrong.

I thought the 3.8 sounded good but it was in the Cab. The 3.6 I tried in the coupe was nearly silent. My basis of comparison was my 06 Cayman S. I decided to forego the PSE because it would likely delay my order and eventually it would be retrofittable through Tequipment. Now that I see the PSE tips in photos I'm pleased I did not delay my S Cab waiting for it to be available. Hope the sound is better than the look of the tips. Thanks for the photos Porsche-Jeck.

The 3.8 in the coupe was also muted at first. It is improving now and the sound has more bite at 4000kms.

In the cabrio obviously same the sound is more audible and makes a different aural impression.

The sound of my standart exaust 997.2 has no comparaison to the sound of the sports exaust on my 997.1. It' s a world apart. The PSE sounds racy and raw. The standart is mute compared to it, even after 7000 km.

Yes too much soot and if you let it stay for long it bakes on the tip and it is very difficult to clean completely. For this reason I clean the tips often even if i don't clean the whole car.

I would paint with black colour (termic) my standard exaust tips.

I don't like the look of new PSE.

I remember with nostalgy the magnific sound of my 997 S mk1 PSE!!! Smiley
