"Stuttgart . The engineers of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, have developed a new sports exhaust system for the latest generation of the 911, available as an option on new models as of February 2009. This special exhaust gives the customer the opportunity to adjust the 911 to his individual, personal preferences also in the car’s particular sound: At the touch of a button the exhaust system switches over to a sporting and emotional sound generated in particular whenever the driver prefers a truly dynamic style of motoring.
The new sports exhaust system is made of modified stainless-steel main silencers and stands out clearly through its two dual tailpipes in unique design. The heart of the system is the exhaust flap on each main silencer activated by the engine’s electronic control system and switching over to a more sporting sound as soon as the driver activates the sound mode. The system itself is activated by a separate button in the centre console varying the sound of the exhaust as a function of engine load, road speed and engine speed.
The Euro base price of the sports exhaust system is 1,610 Euro excluding taxes. In the US the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) is 2,500 US$. Starting in April 2009, Porsche will also be offering a Tequipment version for retrofitting"
hmm, no explanation on the technical background of the pipe-in-pipe looks...
It is a totally unnecessary design detail, although I don't find it either nice or objectionable.
Personally, I'd prefer totally black tips like on the GT3.
Anyway, it is the sound that counts and the illusion(?) of more HP.
Porker:
Strangely Porsche mentions PSE only in relation to the 4WD-models, someone have an insight on this?
--
It says, available for Carrera and Targa 4 models, not Carrera 4 and Targa 4 models.
The Targa's model designation is "Targa 4" because all are 4WD.

It's not where you're going, it's how you get there that counts
In that case, I'll shut my mouth. It's because the Belgian Press release mentions Carrera 4 an Targa 4-models, I guess they're just mistaken ;)
Enzo,what about this one?
Is it for panamera?

Lars997:Well, there may be a sense why there is a complete black inner tube. Ever watched the exhaust tips of cars equipped with a DFI engine ?
I dont like things which are just optical without any mechanical sense.
neunelf:If you delete the words "show off" and replace them with "self gratify" I would agree entirely...
Lars997:If I'm not mistaken, the entire PSE makes no mechanical sense, it's just to show off--acoustically and visually.
I dont know if I should like this.

Dedi La vita è troppo corta per non guidare italiano.....
Ohh my god... I think we've finally hit rock bottom design wise... Just when I was getting optimistic again, because the GT3 mk2 looked less cluttered than mk1... What the f*ck is wrong with those designers?!? What is wrong with the less is more approach that we all loved?
I can see me defecting to lamborghini in the future, but they also overstyle their cars, be it in another sort of way...
Joost:This really looks so stupid.

Porsche, seperates LeMans from LeBoys
Back again!
(only good thing is that you don't have to order it)

Back again!
I have to I can't stand the ''no'' sound of the standart exaust and I do not want to go aftermarket as I like the 'loud-silent' switch + do not want to be double checked by the cops each time they control me + can immagine I would have to wait quite some time for Cargraphic to come out with a steet legal exaust for the 997.2 ?
Jan 28, 2009 1:23:59 PM
neunelf:Its the other way around, the Standard Exhaust is the one makes no mechanical sense, the Carrera with Sport Exhaust is how its supposed to sound with an option to silence it in certain circumstances. The Standard Exhaust is the equivalent of a condom through which Porsche can charge you extra for a condom-delete opotion.

Carlos from Spain:
I can see the tunners rubbing their hands together with the prospect how many aftermarket exhuast tips for the PSE they are going to sell now
The standard exhaust tips get very black in no time (some say this is a characteristic of DFI) and they have a sort of brushed steel (not shiny, chromed) finish which makes them very difficult to clean after a while especially when road dirt is also deposited.
Maybe designers had this in mind when they designed these unusual tips. So it could be a typical case of form follows function. Personally I'd prefer all black like on GT3.

It will look good on my silver car.I can't wait to have it retrofitted in April.
Also I like the new functionality with its own switch whereas on 997.1 it was automatically on in sport mode only.
