Kreso,
now that the £ equals the €, the R8 V10 is really cheaper in UK than in the rest of Europe ( 45000€ less !!). I don't know if Audi will leave it like that
can I order one in UK with the steering on the correct side ?
I will have a word with my dealer soon, I will see what he propose for my current R8 - Nov 2007 / 15000km, if the price is correct I may order a V10 (still crazy after all these years...)
Any idea of the value of a second hand R8 these days ?
ooops, merry christmas to all of you

IMO the R8 V10 is not a substitute for Porsche in concept. It is the thinking man's Ferrari
--
It's not where you're going, it's how you get there that countsI agree fully about that.
Ultimate trio would be IMHO R8 4.2 FSI manual, R8 5.2 FSI manual and 997.2 Turbo PDK.
IMHO true sportscar enthusiast need to look for further then to R8 or 997.2 these days-both cars are awsome in all versions.
Yep - just make the 997.2 to an Convertible and I totally agree and one R9 would be enough for me.
V10 looks stunning as V8 already did. Great car for sure!

Given the shared platform, surely it's more of a 'poor man's Lamborghini' than a 'thinking man's Ferrari'?

However, given the ownership status the Lamborghini could be the exhibitionist's R8.

Yes, I was also thinking that as another option
The hugely better looks and the option of a convertible rather cloud that idea though...

BTW, Audi haters and Porschein fans-why are you posting in this thread?

Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4? Great car-but, on the track or on the road NO match at all for R8 V10.

I haven't seen any Audi hating comments on this thread Kreso. I think you are getting a little sensitive to people trying to understand where exactly this new car fits in - especially to an established market that is very much struggling right now...
The VW Phaeton and Bentley Continental is a good analogy someone mentioned earlier. The difference is basically the price of exclusivity.
I myself absolutley adore Audis (I still love my S3 and the RS6 Avant will almost certainly be my next car) but when it comes down the high end purchases I am a 'designer-label' man...clothes, watches, and especially cars. Audi is an established 'designer label' for family cars, not quite yet for supercars in my eyes.
All power to you for seeing passed this to the substance beneath...

The way I look at it and after driving the V8, IMO the R8 V10 is the epitome of german car engineering in a very focused car with dramatic and unique looks.
To be honest with you the F430 (although admitting its heritage, charisma and excellent F1gearbox) feels like a track special kit car by comparison. A limited use and limited run fun car.
However, at this price level "name" counts as much and sometimes more than substance.

I think the Carrera GT is the epitome of German sports car engineering. I disagree with the "name counts". If you mean in terms of getting looks and prestige, I think if you were to park an R8 next to any Porsche, except the Carrera GT, most people would admire and lust after the R8. I would.

I agree with you.
To all Porsche fans-I am not Porsche fan BUT, Sportscar enthusiast-that is the big difference. Where will R8 V10 fit? In my garage perfectly for example... OK, market wise? R8(and R8 V10) are cars for those people that want something different and more special(sorry Porsche fans...) then 997.2, in all its versions. Do not get me wrong here, I still think that 997.2 is awsome car and really good value for money. Normal R8 will share market segment with 997.2CS/C4S and R8 V10 with forthcoming 997.2 Turbo. Gallardo LP560-4, 430 Scuderia and 997 GT2 are price wise on all different level(Scud and GT2 are more track focused sportscars anyway). New 997.2 GT3 will be something special(at least I hope so) but, it is aimed at different costumers then any R8/R8 V10....
Crash:100-200km/h time it's the same for r8v10 and lp560

what about ring time ?

It should be faster then Gallardo LP560-4 in HvS hands.
How much slower will it be in a straight line, when compared to the LP560-4?
