I really hope it's only a nightmare...
Porsche and other manufacturers producing less than 300,000 units per year got away with the strict EU 130g/km CO2 target for 2012.
However, they still have to reduce their emissions by 25% within this period. Diesel is one of the ways, that even niche manufacturers must reluctantly employ. If there is a diesel Mercedes SL or 6-series and soon Z4 why not a Boxster?
The automotive landscape is changing beyond recognition. We must forget everything we know!

I would not take all this rumours. Where it comes from? a blog... Tomorrow I will make a blog and I will fill it with shit just to make people read it. I will put an article about Porsche´s first truck, remake of the tractor, this time as the sportiest of them all with more than 250km/h, and I will even put some photoshops of it, and you will be surprised just how many people will take it as a posibility. Porsche has changed a lot in the last times, but let´s just stay calm and see what is possible and what not. Remember that a diesel engine in a central position in a monocoque body it is not the same as a gasoline engine in the same position!

2.0 TDI in Porsche Boxster ?? I can't imagine that... Same rumour is in L'Automobile Magazine too...
Not physically possible, iMO. Boxster has a flat six engine. A vertical 4 cyl engine wouldn't fit under the roof mechanism. Thank goodness!!
This is absolute rubbish .... shame on the idiots who are writing/publishing it.
By the way, when it comes to EU CO2 reduction, as soon as Porsche will cross the 50% mark in Volkswagen, Porsche + Volkswagen will be considered 1 group and therefore CO2 limits will apply to the "new" group and not to each brand (Porsche, Lambo, Bentley, ...)
Bottom line, Porsche is all set regarding CO2, however, social acceptance is a different thing.
SUVs are being percieved as gas guzzlers ... but sports cars are not... So there is no point adding diesel engines to the sports car range.
