Do we really need/want night vision on a porsche?

i have never used cruise control.. but then, it probably makes more sense in the US where roads are really straight for miles and miles....

In Switzerland, the roads are always curving and not really where one can keep constant speed with all the traffic.

Besides, nothings more fun in a 911 than dropping a few gears and gassing it, just for the heck of it

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Thread Closed

Active cruise control in a sports car? I guess these cars are mostly 'executive expresses' these days. I would say that a Panamera makes more sense for that utilization.

P.S. - I also hate the active cruise control as it fools radar detectors.

I tried cruise control on my 1989 BMW 525i  the other day and it would not disengage.. scariest moment of my life. So something is definitely not right with that but besides that i can see how CC can be very nice for longer boring commutes.

indeed shifting is ancient technology - so is a fuel burning engine..  I happen to like both :)

You sure you weren't driving a Toyota? Smiley
Also, from your time in the Netherlands, you may have heard about the singer Marco Bakker, who drove into a woman, and his story was that his cruise control got stuck, but police reports mentioned he had been drinkin :P

The laser-based active cruise controls do emit signals that are annoyingly detected.  These are mainly found on Infinity and some versions of Lexus.  They transmit pulsed laser ranging signals just like police lidar guns.

Radar-based active cruise controls operate on 76-77 Ghz and don't bother detectors at all.  Porsche and Mercedes use radar instead of laser technology.

Some Audi, Mercedes, Volvo, etc. have a feature that locates vehicles in the driver's blind spot variously called "Side Assist", etc.  These devices operate on the 24 GHz band and mess up radar detectors.  Fortunately, they emit a form of FMCW and most can be gotten rid of in the V1 by turning off the POP reception option.

My Toyota's cruise control also works fine and that's why when I am out for a trip that require one, I will use a Toyota.  When I am with my Porsche, I drive it.

Especially in Switzerland and Austria its a great help. As the whole traffic (also the car in front of you) is slowing down in the curves, your car will do the same. Trust me - its very relaxing and an active cruise is not to compare with an passive at all. This thing makes travelling very relaxed. And - I always say, someone else takes a bit care on you, too!

Sorry, didn't have much time lately...yes, this drawing is pretty accurate (as far as I remember).

so it's not like the Larson drawings in the back (which i love) -- i much prefer the sharp lines of the rear lights than the curved one's-- to me, IMHO, that photoshop looks just like a 997 with a different spoiler--991 jan11 rear view .jpg

I really prefer the look without any wing, much prefer a cleaner line. Gallardos, F430, 458, Astons don´t have it and look great. Wish Porsche could find a way to have the rear planted without the need of those wings.

I saw the 991 for a couple of seconds (black cloth covering it slipped down...accidentally Smiley) a couple of months ago. Do you really think I was able to remember any tiny detail?  Smiley

I know how the rear lights look and the exhaust system (double pipes on each side) and I remember that the frontlights were almost round but I saw them slightly from the side.

    Can't offer more, sorry.

Porsche doesn't believe in sharp styling lines. It would represent too much of a departure from their beloved evolution philosophy.

I am hoping the VW influence will loosen the philosophy.
