    Emperor:
Given the butch appearance and the significantly increased width, I suspect 8 cylinders for this one. Can't see another logical reason for increasing the size of the car as the Panamera will serve those looking for a spacious "sports car".

I would still say 6-cyl.  My take on why it's longer
1 - Due to some complaints that the rear seats don't have enough room even for kids.
2 - Moving engine forward (semi mid-engine) configuration
3 - None of the above Smiley.

Reasonable logic but buckle up for a counter argumentSmiley

    1. Nobody every complains about the AMV8, R8 or F430 not having space for kids. The 911 is first and fore most a sports car and the so called seats are just a bonus more suitable as cargo space. Porsche has made the Panamera which they call a sports car for 4 and have claimed that performance is close to a 911. That makes a stretched 911 very redundant, especially when Soccer moms can resort to a Cayenne for proper hospitality.

    2. Porsche already has a midengined demon, the Cayman. But most importantly the rear bias configuration is the 911's unique selling points and is the primary reason why the car is so popular and so damn fast. Push the engine to the middle and the 911 officially dies.

Another possibility is increased displacement because the A91 with DFI is pretty much the limit of what you can squeeze out an engine with a 3.8l displacement. What if it's the so called "engine of the future" that TechArt got in trouble for buying from a Porsche worker in 2007.

Different cutting line on black 998  " visually "  making door shorter  =  illusion of longer  WB  .IMO this two cars are of same L & WB

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

Guys, the more I watch the picture the more I think it is exactly the same sizing as the 997. I think, the picture standpoint was different, on the 998 the picture is not 100% even with the perspective of the photographer. I think this picture is misleading!

    Misha,

thanks for the Autobild pictures. There was one inside (I had the magazine in the airplane in the hand) so there was one inside which was showing the rearlights almost without camo. Can you post them? I guess the others would like to see those, too.

     THANKS, L@rs

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

    Lars ,

Unfortunately , I don't have a magazine .  Took a picture from Autobild website and have seen the other one , showing rear lights and new type of rr wing - but couldn't download that one.   Here is a link

    AuBi09_04_003-003_Inhalt.pdf

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

    Ok Misha!

They had a camoflaged car in, where the camo on the rear was taken off. So you could see the whole, new rear view. The yellow Photoshop in the overview of your linked PDF is more or less the same, just the the camo-car was an untouched picture!

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

One more thing I remember. They talked about that Porsche plans an entry-level 911 with an 3.0ltr 6 Cyl Boxer Engine.

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

Thanks for the picture, Misha011, but is this picture supposed to be the new 991?  If so, then are we expecting the new 991, exterior-wise, to just be a minor facelift?  Because it looks just like the 997.Smiley

Alan , you reffer to the ' black '   or   ' yellow '   911  ??    As per Auto Bild , both are next 911 - black mule in winter testing  and  yellow artistic immpression to which black mule will evolve .   Along with picture of yellow 911 , as Lars997 has mentioned , is written :  rear hatch ;  ecconomy  3.0 L model  and 7 speed .

Both really, but I was looking at the yellow when I made the comment.  I was hoping for a heavily camo'd 991, not one that looks just like a 997.  But maybe the real "skin" is being kept away from us.  I always thought that the 991 will be a "next-generation" 911.  Kind of like the transition from 996 to 997, as far as exterior is concerned.

Ron , many thanks for a picture .  I could not figure out how to extract it from that PDF.   I like this 911 very much and hope it's close (very close) to the real thing . On the 2nd page of  PDF is a picture of this car , from the back .  It is very interesting but very small and I don't know if you can do something with it .  Maybe some of our German friends with a copy of this Vol.4  of AutoBild could help (scan & post)

    Alan ,  from current 911 (997)  to ' yellow car '  - to me , is as from  996 to 997 , a nice transition / evolution in design .  BTW is ' 991'  same as  ' 998 '  or it's not - I am bit lost in all this nos. Smiley

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

Basically the yellow car (front perspective) is a 997.2 with larger intakes and 993 style mirrors.

It is a very rough guess and it should not be taken seriously IMO.

The official code name is 991, but before this was known, alot of people referred to the next-gen as the 998.  It should be called 991.

Anyways, I hope that there is more to the exterior skin changes than what I see.

The picture of the wheel that Misha posted is quite interesting, as I only see the caliper of the parking brake, right? Furthermore, there seems to be a lot of technical mess behind the brake disc... Probably some braking technology novelty?

It could be from 'electronic wedge brake - EWB'  to 'active suspension'  (diff. ride height on diff. pics.) to even '4 wheel steering' .

Amazing new Shots - Thanks Neunelf for the link!

Good to see that the whole windscreen and front has changed a lot. This requires also to mount the mirrors on the door instead of the tringular.

seems more aggresive than 997,GREAT,but it seems also bigger/longer..Smiley

I may be wrong but the smooth top of the canvas in the cabriolet seems to be "too smooth". I think it is a camo for a hard top.
