Im really sad to see the engine lid ruining the smooth curve of the body

agree, it is not as good looking as the current model on the rear.  just too much lines...

Good point. I like the more sculpted look, but I agree that the cut lines are a mess.

I find the lines ok to make way for a sleeker rear wing.

And I think the door mirrors will have bi-color as an option, the lower and upper sections.

I think the lines make it look very modern and sophisticated for some reason. I think it will blend in better in real life. I'd like to see how the lines look on a white 991.

You can see the longer wheelbase in this shot... does anyone know how they got the larger wheelbase?  Is the car just longer by the extra wheelbase, or did they push the front wheels forward (assume not possible to push rear wheels rearward...). ?

I guess the whole car is just longer between from the A to the B pillar. They added a bit to the door and a bit to the part behind! Without that air intake sticker you clearly see the extension!

From that side shot, it looks like both spoilers could retract which i think could make it very 993TT whale tale like...

I dunno the side profile looks pretty much identical to the 996/ 997 to me.

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Thread Closed

What's with that rear whiper ?? It looks extremely old-fashioned, and simply has no place an a car like this. and the 997 didn't have one either.

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Thread Closed

haha... yeah. I hardly use the rear wiper too. for sure I will not choose that option (rear wiper) for the 991.

     Re Rear Wiper:

If you drive your car year round, it is very useful. For example, when you're backing out of a parking spot, when it's been raining. Or if you're in stop and go traffic and it's snowing. Any time you're not moving at a good clip...

Aside from the actual benefits, the rear wiper in my opinion gives Porsches a functional look that sets them apart from , in my mind, always separated Porsches form other sports car companies. I have to say however that the new rear wipers don't hold a candle to the older ones (original 911 wiper with the kink in the arm, or the amazing 928 rear wiper...)

I would love that too, but the 991 is Soooo much longer than a 993 that it will be hard/impossible to keep the correct proportions (996/997 is much longer than 993 and 991 is another 4" longer wheelbase).

Here is a rough photo comparo of the 991 and 997.2. It is assumed that the distance between the front axle hub and the door's leading edge is the same in both cars.

Notice that the rear apex of the side rear window is in front of the rear axle hub in the 991, whereas in the 997.2 it is behind it. It appears that the WB gain is towards the rear, adding rear seat spacing.

The rear overhang looks much bigger on the 991 ! Maybe because of the angle ?

It's not the angle of the photo. I think reginos has got it exactly right.  The storage space for the hardtop convertible was designed first and the coupe was designed afterward around the space provided.  I also cannot envision a 993 from what we've seen of the 991 thus far. The 911 appears to be headed into a new direction for the 21st Century IMHO.

Ultimately the thing that will excite me most about the 991 is the performance figures... 0-62 mph in 4s? 415 hp ? 50 kg lighter ? Yummy!!

I had a quick look and guestimated (using the 19" wheels as a benchmark) the 991 was about 100 to 125mm longer...hardly scientific so don't hold me to it.

One other thing I just realise is the size of the brake calibers, they didnt got bigger and seem almost being lost in those huge wheels (20"???)

I do have a rear wiper on my current Carrera S 997.1 and find it useful in some circumstances.

However, I've chosen not to include one on my new Carrera GTS.  I feel that 'visual outweighs practical' on this car.  My feelings would be the same with a 991.

I will have a rubber 'scraper' in the boot though..Smiley

Look at the 1998 993S vs the 1998 996 and see what the better investment was..
