So finally the proof for the soft top, thank you Ron!

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Thread Closed

What I don't get, one of the major achievements from the 996 to 997 was that they got rid of that ugly whale hump on the back. Now they come up with an even more obvious and ugly hump.

Yep they are in the stage of the larger field test. Means ordinary employees can have the car for test drives now. You clearly see on one of the pictures that hubbie and wife is driving for shopping ;)

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Thread Closed

Hmm.. I like it a lot. It looks different in important areas the 997 models-which is very good IMHO.

From what I can see, I'm seeing a real folding hardtop, with the canvas only put there to put us off.

Agree, look at the loose fabric when folding. The canvas is only a disguise. To me that would be a big dissapointment.

I am sure I will ultimately like the new design, but for now I agree with Lars.  The rear treatment has that tiny duck tail, and the rear deck line coming off the rear window jars my sense of flow down the rear quarter panel....

There is definitely something hard at the top. So, is it a combination of soft and hard top ?

Agreed - it's a cat-and-mouse game of bluff and double-bluff. The real car is still hidden IMO

it will be a semi soft top with rigid parts to strenghten it.

however, something about above pic looks fishy. mechanism looks too bulky and complicated to be the real thing.

Porsche's US Patient filing indicates the convertible top can have a variety of materials - glass, cloth & colored panels to match the cabs color.  We may be seeing the first of the cab top options.

haha, when I first saw your drawing I said: "wow, porsche has really gone radical with this one; they now use paper instead of tailights, to keep the weight in check". That explains why this car will be 50 kg lighter than the previous one, eh ? Smiley

Doesn't the rear window look like it is made of flexible plastic? Porsche moved away from that many years ago. I can't imagine them going back to a plastic rear window now. I wonder what this picture really is about...

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Thread Closed

I think they simply covered the folding hardtop with canvas and a plastic rear window as a disguise. Look at how "messy" it folds.

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Thread Closed

The 991 coupe's body styling makes the 991 look almost British.  Its the longest tail 911 ever, wich is good for improving high speed stability.

The 991 Cabriolet as shown with the top down is a visual disaster. Ugly be thy name.

As with all new model Porsches, the 991 will likely be quicker and out handle and out brake the prior generation.

Guys, is it me or this cab hasn't got any rear seats ? Smiley Maybe that's why it looks "wrong". Sure, they were useless anyway, but you could use them as storage for a case or shopping bag at least Smiley

BIgger is not something that will benefit the 911 IMHO.  My 997 already seems rather large for a sports car, and the 991 appears to be headed toward even more volume.  It seems to me that the engineering for the folding hard top has resulted in the lengthening of the wheelbase rather than the perceived need to increase the size of the rear seats, unless of course Porsche has foreseen future generations of morbidly obese infants and children requiring the additional space.

My thoughts also. The longer / wider (i.e. more is better) approach only goes so far. Makes me cherish my current car even more.
