Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

Do you guys ever use the rear seats for adults?  It's so bad, that during lunch time, if I want to take co-workers to lunch and I brought the 997 to work, I have the adult(s) cram themselves in the back seat while I make the short drive back home to switch cars to a 4 door/4 pass vehicle.  The ONLY reason for the rears seats is when I'm taking my son (who's 7 years old now) with me.

If the next gen was mid-engine / 8 cyl, yes, it would still be a 911 in shape.  But you would not have to have the rear end abruptly fall off, as far as shape is concerned.  If Porsche did this, it would interesting and exciting.

    We need change! Smiley

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

For what it's worth, a mechanic who returned from a Panamera training session told me that it's the biggest stop Porsche has ever made in his recollection--and he's there almost 20 years.

It could very well be that RC is right about this mule containing Panamera technology but this doesn't mean it's not a future 911.

Whatever it is, it seems to have more room for those rear seats don't you think?

PS: thanks for the kind words Stradale Smiley

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

The angle isn't the same of course but this car really seems like a lower, wider and longer 911

    neunelf:

And that's exactly what it is. Autobild which is probably the most credible autosite on the net has said that this is a mule for the next generation 911. They have leaked lots of images and juicy images in the past so we need to stop kidding ourselves. This is the next generation 911.

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

This isn't the most accurate method , but close enough .  Everything depends on wheel size - if blue and black cars are on 19" then WB is same 239 cm  (Porsche spec. 235 cm , here tolerable inaccuracy ) .  If black car is on 20'  then WB is 250 cm  or near by .  All in all , most likely the same platform .

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

We are driving crazy...but for me is the new 911 ...at least is what i think today Smiley

the roof line and windows lines are of a 911,and also the lines of the rear of the car,try to delete the camouflaged big wing from the latest pictures posted here up,you fill find the lines that start from the rear bumper(near the taillights) and goes on the engine cover and up to the roof...is a 911Smiley

the engine is in the right place too

the guys in Weissach made a good work, and maybe the whant to made us think is a Turbo(due to the big wing and the fake air inlets)to take out our attention from the new Carrera, and to think something different

When we saw the first mules of the 997,noone think if was something different from a "standard" Carrera...now they whant to make for us the game not easy as before..SmileySmiley

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

And here we go again with the speculation. A mid-engined 8 cyl. 911? Are you guys nutsSmiley (oh boy, I just love this smiley...).

Btw: we had this 8 cyl. discussion before the 997 was introduced.

A 8 cyl. engine would break the 911 tradition, this would be one of the biggest mistakes Porsche can make right now, especially since the Cayenne is almost "dead" and the Panamera is just at the starting point.

I also doubt it that Porsche could build a mid-engined 911 with rear seats and trust me, the 911 would not sell in this price class without them. There are some track addicts who drive a GT3 or GT2 but most 911 owners appreciate the rear seats for various reasons, starting from moving the kids, dog, whatever or just plain and simple more luggage room.

Substantially changing the 911 would destory the brandname Porsche in my opinion.

On the contrary, I would love to see more room in the rear because even my 8 year old daugther doesn't really fit there anymore.

Why would that be the case if the can make an 8 cylinder engine light as the 6 cylinder?? Could the car be housing the so call "engine of the future" that TechArt bought of a dude that stole a few engines from Porsche R&D last year?

I sure hope they don't make the 911 even bigger - that's what the Panamera and new 928 Panamera Coupe are for...

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

Good job but as we can see my the mule, the next generation 911 will be lower, wider and chunkier in its appearance. Therefore your drawing could have looked a bit more muscular and perhaps less sleek tail lights. The 998 will follow in the Panameras foot steps with aggressive proportions, it resembles an alligator.

Well i like this new direction in shape seen in the mule and your drawings. It is starting to look more like a supercar and less like a VW. (ironic, huh)

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

I too like this new direction in shape with the right blending of curved and angular surfaces.   Lamborghini seems to be very angular in its approach, Ferrari much more rounded, Porsche much more rounded yet.   Of course, as Porsche becomes more angular it will be ever so evolutionary with its iconic model.

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

RC, what's wrong with all the speculating?

Its fun; it creates interest, feedback and hype for Porsche - plus traffic for rennteam; it allows us to share ideas, knowledge and insights, and - when we're wrong - gives us a great opportunity to laugh at our selves (especially good for guys like me!!) Smiley

I don't see much of a downside to it!  And its a beautiful thing when guys like you can share a little inside information!! Smiley

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

Does anyone else here really love the way rear of this cammoed whatever-it-is looks?  I don't know how this mule performs in terms of drag and downforce, but I'd welcome a fixed body style like this in exchange for a wing.

    Any thoughts??

I should add that I do like wings in general - at least the functional ones Porsche designs - so I'm not asking for them to go away alltogether...

Maybe Atzporsche could explore this a bit for them...??

    Interesting.

You need to account quite a bit for the camo though. In the rear the fake lights are probably on top of the real end of the car. So if you use your analysis it makes it even more likely.

    It's the next 911.

i feel you on the wing thing, i do like the wings, but i'd like to see something different. Maybe a la 959 style.. ill work on it ;Smiley

As soon as I saw the spyshots and the way the rear was camoed I had suspecion that they'll have a spoiler like Panamera up their sleeves.

I think it would look nice on 911.
