Explanation in Autobild Article: the designers had the task to differentiate the front more from Boxster/Cayman. Form follows marketing instead of form follows function Smiley

It’s good news in my opinion, especially in times, when all the models from one brand look almost the same – BMW, MB, Audi…

    KresoF1:

Just little hint... Yesterday, I was with my P source who is on vacation on Adriatic coast. He told me that:"...despite all worries that rennteamers wrote new 991 will be a better sportscar then 997.2-period. 997.2 Carrera GTS or 991 S? You must be kidding-991 S of course. Naturally with all sporty options. In my opinion even base 991 Carrera with 350ps will be more then sufficient for most costumers." He works over 10 years for P in Z. His infos were always 100% correct. I saw 991 again on screen without any camo(press pics are ready!) and I am sold.

     Many thanks Kreso!!! Smiley

Re: 991 spy shots Thread Closed

Official German dealers intro date is 03rd December.

Re: 991 spy shots Thread Closed

     More one video...

Re: 991 spy shots Thread Closed

    Thanks for the video

The shape of the rear fenders looks very powerful visually and they blend very pleasingly with the higher (compared to 997) front fenders.

The front lights seem larger than 997's and more domed, more bug-eyed but the exact shape seems undefined as yet.

I also liked the shape of the cabin and glasshouse above the waistline.

Kreso, what can you tell us from the headlights? Are the shape like on this last video?

In the video they seem unproportioned....

Re: 991 spy shots Thread Closed

I think the rear looks great with the Euro flat number plate cutout, but looks quite wrong with the square (US?) cut-out.....

Re: 991 spy shots Thread Closed

The camo is slowly peeling off the headlights, and they're gorgeous!

Re: 991 spy shots Thread Closed

     Good find Carrara!!

Re: 991 spy shots Thread Closed

Here's a quick, sloppy little sketch brushing away the rest of the camo. I'm almost 100% sure this will be the final shape.

I like what I see so far. It's very nice that headlights are getting that convex shape and form an extension of the side wings (as in 918), to the contrary of the 997 where lights are cut-offs and not really fluid... Also good thing that rear lights are getting slimer and getting rid off of those tacky dotted LEDs!

Very comprehensive and thought-through design! Smiley

Enough for RC to get a GTS, Im just saying ;)

Re: 991 spy shots Thread Closed

first picture without any camo at the front bumper! I like this little wrinkle on the side of the bumper, gives that little extra to the car, to stand out against an 997! Damn, isnt that a fine looking car!

Re: 991 spy shots Thread Closed

The marketing folks are laughing their a**es off at these prescripted  weekly strip- tease

" spy pics " , with these cars now being driven around the past couple months on everyday urban roads by them- not validating engineers .  It's all part of keeping the hype at peak interest leading up to the Frankfurt intro.

That's exactly what they did with the 997! I really don't mind, and I'm sure they all know how much we enjoy it. I think its a much better idea to run around in nearly undisguised pre-production cars while slowly peeling off the camo, rather than releasing official teaser images.

Re: 991 spy shots Thread Closed

So the headlights will be oval? Like the Boxster??

Re: 991 spy shots Thread Closed

Check this out from the June issue of flat6:

Porsche speaking: "We know that the PSE on the 997.2 isn't the best. There is very little difference in sound with the standard exhaust. The fault lies with the noise reduction standards which we've had to adhere to and which changed between Phase 1 and Phase 2 [997.1 vs. 997.2]. But since, we've found a way to get very good results these new standards. You will see that on the 991, PSE will be excellent"

"The 991 is very pretty. It's a pure 911 and even if it is slightly larger in dimension you will find it as compact as the 997 when driving. We have worked the weight aspect a lot on this new generation".

Thanks to rennlist for the find and translation!

Thanks Carrera for the PSE news really gave me hope in 991.. But if sound was not satisfying I'm going for GT3

Re: 991 spy shots Thread Closed

So far, we've been looking at spyshots with camouflage, magazine renderings, photoshop efforts etc.

We haven't seen the official Porsche PR yet (which will indicate how Porsche wants us to react to this car), read any magazine reviews, done our own test drives or owned the first cars to come off the production line.

I really do believe that once these things have happened, overall, we will all be very pleased with the result. There may be small details that not all of us will like - but you can't please everyone all the time.

Let's think back to the introduction of the 997 around 2004. Now compare those early cars with the latest incarnations: the 997 Carrera GTS and the 997.2 GT3 RS 4.0. These latest cars are the best that the 997 range could be.

Can you imagine how amazing the 991 will be by the end of its life cycle?

The point is that we are all hoping and expecting the beginning of the 991 life cycle to be better than the comparable models from the end of the 997 life cycle. I personally have no reason to doubt this will be the case.

I guess this post is just my way of saying: sit tight guys, we have good reason to expect that we are going to be very pleasantly surprised.
