Drove past Stuttgart from Koln the other week, on the way to Maranello. Don't boo and hiss me, I had a much overdue date with the factory there. I did see a few interesting things on the way. A GT3 RS 4.0 overtook me going through the Brenner pass... paying no respect to the serious Austrians and their speed restrictions... it sounded magnificent. I think we passed two 991 mule cars, but they were turning off the motorway and we weren't... so slowing down to see what they were was not an option. Both Silver cars. Exciting times these. I think the reveal will come a lot closer to the FRA show date. But that is just my opinion. Anyone else know more?

... Incredible how much talk for what is probably the most insipid sports car ever created my man. Looks wise of course. I mean, I just can't understand how people can genuinely be excited about this car anymore from a design perspective ...
Welcome to Rennteam. So you think the styling is "insipid"? Well, the styling may not excite you but that's only your subjective reaction. There are many other people here who are interested in how this car will look.
You've succeeded in not only criticising this car based on spyshots but also in criticising Rennteamers for taking a keen interest in how this car will look in virtually your first post on this site. IMvHO there are better, and more respectful, ways to enter a forum as a newcomer.
BTW what do you drive?
Why is this relevant?
Best, w

Insipid?!? Says who? I am critical of the 991 for technical design decisions, but not for maintaining its classic timeless look.
Assuming you have a sense of style, I challenge you to ask yourself 20 years hence if you still like the 'avant-garde' designs you lust for now.

Please don't, we don't need the guy logging in under different names for the next 20 years.

Maybe this should go into a new thread, but since there is much discussion about the iconic 911 shape that we all (or most of us) love, I thought it may be relevant.
This is prototype 911 cabriolet by Bertone from the mid 60's. Beautiful, imho...
Quite a bit of rear overhang, to accomodate the motor. Very interesting air intakes.
Makes one wonder about the range of styling possibilities with the 911 architecture. We tend to think of the iconic shape or similar VW / Tatra shapes as going hand in hand with such a layout. On the other hand, the Corvair provides a counterpoint.

If you look at carefully at the HD pics that Boxter has posted above, you can see that when the day running lights and indicators are ON, the illumination DOESN'T extend as far as the fake lights. This shows that the camo is trying to throw us off, and, thankfully, the lights end in line with the intakes.
Someone posted previously that this might have have been a 991.1 design error specifically to "fix with the .2, but I never believed that any car designer could ever sleep at night purposefully detracting from what they felt was as good as they could do from the start.
So we can all sleep peacefully on this one.
Now, having made a sensible post here, I'm gonna now stick my neck out. Those lights are gonna be 918 square!!

If you look closely where the daytime light camo tries to throw us off, you can see a very slim highlight partially covered up by the camo. That highlight is apart of the bodywork, and indicates the running lights droop over. Plus, you can see that the lit part ends right at the edge, but the bands around the running lights would protrude over the intake regardless. I guess we can't confirm anything until we see the car though.
And the head lights will be 918 style, but not SHAPE. They won't be square, I can assure you. That just doesn't belong on the 911, save that for the Boxster and Cayman.
Check out this picture, you can see that the headlights have a very steep angle, and that the lens is somewhat concave! Reminds me of the 964!

That shade of grey looks a lot like Slate Grey to me but not exactly the same as Slate Grey ...
Slate Grey has a touch of brown in it ... this shade has the darkness of Slate Grey but not the brownish tint.

For some strange reason, I think my favorite colour so far on the 991 is that Panamericana style green on the first pre production car we saw (besides of course GT Silver). I don't like the colour, but the way the road reflects off that colour makes the 991 absolutely gorgeous!
