I believe there's a plastic cover over the headlight that obscures the fact that the actual headlight is likely standing upright. There is no recess at 12 o'clock, light is flush w/ fender, but the light will be "recessed" into the fender well at 6 o'clock.

so, stealing this image from the Boxter Cayman thread, and taking the 918 idea from the post above, it's not inconceivable that the 991's lights could look like this - and even the square look wouldn't upset me - I think it looks great.  Fun speculation, nothing more...  And those in the know will be chuckling no doubt!

Curious, what Rennteam-ers  thoughts-reactions are to the front end and the off-center, pointy eye brow lights above the air vents are?

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Thread Closed

I don't think the final version will be like that. Notice how the thin LED stripe never goes on beyond where the air intake ends. IMO its just a diversion.

If they turn out to be like that, I think it is a deliberate design "mistake" , in order to easily cash in on the facelift later on...

Nobody in their right mind would design it like that and think it actually looks better than if they had the directionals/drls neatly ligned up with the intakes...

i agree and hope so too Joost!

i would have a hard time approaching the car from the front if it was in my driveway and would be waiting for the 991.2!

The drawings-illustrations by Larson and Autobild looked great and was hoping the final car would turn out like either of those.

Rear bumper ( area between the lights )  is covered  i.e.  not a real / final look .

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Thread Closed

    Ahh, ok.
I'm not convinced though, pretty sure that what you see is what you get (minus the camo tape of course).

I agree with you joost, but I think what he means is not the entire bumper is camo, but there is a small piece of camo between the two  tail lights, obscuring perhaps an engine cover, or another vent below the rear wing as many renderings have portrayed.

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Thread Closed

I was looking in evomagazine, and apparently the "aero-foils" (vanes on the "engine cover") are active.

Just a possibility, but I think that the area between the rear lights will be recessed inwards beneath the spoiler similar to the 918 Spyder.

    My two cents.

yes..I feel the same..im wondering: the whole interior looks like being assembled in horse carriage shop in china...the door opener (not in this picture but on other shown) - completely looks as if it has been forgotten in the design phase and the just fix it on afterwards. on this picture it seems they forgot the gps screen in the design phase ..then they just fixed this by cutting off the under line of the air vents..the whole thing just doesnt like like a "thought design"...dont really understand this...this is even worse than it was wit the 996..!Smiley terrible..

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Thread Closed

I agree a928. The door opener is actually the same one found in the Cayenne and Panamera, and presumably the next Boxster/Cayman. I don't think the center console is too bad, because it isn't as bloated as the Panamera's, but the section below the screen, WAY too many buttons! They should have done it Carrera GT style, i.e, knobs for the heat/AC instead of buttons. In general, I don't know how Porsche can make an interior as gorgeous as the Carrera GT's, and then base the 991's interior on the Panamera. No, the Panamera is a luxury sedan, the 911 is a sports coupe. They should have just done an evolution of the 997 interior, the 997 interior was perfection.

I really wish they would have made the center console a direct inspiration from the Carrera GT, instead of a watered down bloated interpretation.

I'm inclined to agree, Nick. (I don't say that every day!  Smiley)

I suppose we should be thankful that you are not sufficiently computer-savvy to post a vid of you vomiting as a result of following this thread. Smiley

Posting new pics or real facts is one thing, speculating about whether the rear window heater knob will be round or oval (OK, I'm exaggerating slightly) is quite another, especially since this thread has lost track of the original topic, that having been the engine to be used in the 991GT3.  Smiley

There is another live thread dealing with the imminent 991.

There was a time when it was the thread topic and only a mod could alter it mid-thread.

Handsome though you may be, Palenimbus, allowing the introduction of a new  "Subject" heading for each post makes a nonsense of the real thread heading and makes it even more likely that threads go off-topic than it already was in the past.

Since we are already off topic, does anyone have pictures of the production 991 Cabs being driven around the factory?
