    Hi!
There are lot of rumors going around the web how the upcoming 911 targa will look like. I hope it will come back to its roots.

Even as an obsessive Porschephile myself, I have to say that most of you guys sound absolutely ridiculous with all of this meaningless speculation on Nordschleife times, and what Porsche will do with the motorsports program. I think many of you are looking way too deep into things. Especially with the Nordschleife times. The times are in absolutely no way official. The production car hasn't even been revealed, and keep in mind this event that was held in South Africa was back in February.

Speculating Nordschleife times is crazy. You can't say, so the 991 C2S does 7:37, okay that must mean the 991 GT3 will do a 7:27. But, it has to make use of a 9A1 engine, so that will be impossible...

I think Porsche knows what they are doing. And I guarantee that when Porsche designed the 9A1 engine, they had motorsport, and all of their GT models in mind.

Whilst I agree with you on the speculation on the Nordschleife times, I think you may have got the wrong end of the stick on the motorsport discussion.

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Thread Closed

Believe me, I'm probably one of the most die hard fans of Porsche (and naturally a motorsport and Nordschleife fan) out there. Rattle and speculation over Nordschleife times and motorsport is okay, but speculation and rattle over these things on such a scale without hardly any hard facts at all is ridiculous. Wondering what the GT3 or Turbo will run is okay, so is wondering how the 991 RSR will stack up against the competition, but speculating tires used in the runs, calling the 991 C2 slow because of its time, and guessing the Cayman R will run in GT2 because an important man at Porsche said there are motorsport prospects for the Cayman R is just craziness.

But, I do enjoy reading through everyone's posts, and I must admit, some of you have very good points, and nice break downs. I guess most of the motorsport discussion is fine and okay. Most points on that discussion were reasonable. But, the Nordschleife times discussion had people getting upset left and right, thinking the 991 was no faster at all than the 997, and that it was a premonition for many that there is absolutely no way the Turbo and GT3 will be good cars. Just my 2 cents.

    And, new Turbo shots.  http://www.teamspeed.com/forums/997-996-turbo/61887-spied-2013-porsche-911-turbo-new-details-focus.html#post1022572

Cayman R or any other Cayman in GT2 is highly unlikely. (for reasons I have posted)

The only mid-engined GT car that I see in the near future is the 918 RSR which Porsche themselves have said that they would try very hard to make it race in 2012.

The problem is that it would not be able to race as a GT2 car but rather as a unclassified GT-X Hybrid invitee.

The question that I think was originally being asked is what is Porsche going to do in the interim until the launch of the 991 GT3 RSR

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Thread Closed

Hahah, maybe I've said too much...

Spyderidol: Porsche's original intention was to race at the 2011 24 Hours of Nuerburgring with the 918 RSR, but for whatever reason, that never happened. Hopefully it'll race in 2012.

Personally, I think that this speculated "961" mid range supercar that is coming in the future could possibly run in the GT2 class, leaving the GT3 to race in... Well, the GT3 class. That way the 911 still will race, but Porsche could be more competitive in the GT2 class, however, that's highly unlikely to happen, and just speculation...

But, from articles posted on the previous page, it appears 2013 comes the introduction of the 991 RSR. I assume it would not come in January of 2013 ready for the racing season, but at the end of the season. That means the 997 RSR will race in the 2012, and 2013 seasons to be replaced by for the 2014 season by the 991 RSR.

Who knows though, Porsche could pull a surprise and run the 991 RSR in 2013. But also keep in mind, every new racing season, Porsche updates their 997 RSR with newer technology, so possibly the 2012 update could sustain it through the next season.

He saw my car and I started asking him about the 991 GT3 cup and then going on to what he knew about the street car. What he told me is the following.

1.9A1 motor for sure with 480 hp for GT3
    2. PDK-S (he used this term twice) which has been tested with the 9A1 for over 4 years he claims.
3.Weight loss of 180-200 lbs through use of composites.
4.Aboslutely no hybrid tech.He said specifically it doesnt fit the GT3 motif.
5.Confirmed no more Gt1 (Mezger) block after GT3 RS LE (he confirmed 4.0 RSR motor).
6.Stressed the move of the motor forward essentially making the car a mid-engine car, even though Porsche will never call it one. He says this will make the car more balanced.
I wont say the guy's name but he is in a very high position within P-motorsport."

"He also absolutely stressed no 8 cylinder and I asked him multiple times. We spoke of the car in terms of the 991 Cup car in relation to the 991 GT3, as I figured he's tell me more if it was within this context! When I asked him about weight loss of the "base" 991 he said 130 pounds or so with more in the GT3. I asked about through the use of stuff like on the Gt2RS and he nodded in the affirmative."

No Carrara, Porsche said right from the start that they would race the GT3 R Hybrid II during the 2011 season whilst they develop the 918 RSR  and would "most probably" race the 918 RSR  in 2012. It was never forecasted to race during the 2011 season.

Fantastic video! My only criticism on the design, is that it's too high in the rear, and there's no lid to the engine. Lowe down the wing, bonette, and tail lights, and it would be perfect. But, I need to see the entire car undisguised to make better judgment.

    Well done Carrara!
I do share your concerns though, that the empty space under the rear lights makes it look very high in the rear... we'll see, maybe Porsche has got a design feature up theire sleeve that we didn't spot yet. However, previous experience with slowly undisguised prototypes teaches us that this will probably be the final thing.
