^^ As I said, watch this video. At the very end the 991 breaks loose and hits the rev limiter! It's "just" a Carrera, but it sounds like a GT3! I'm so glad Porsche is trying to bring back the sound of the non-DFI engines. Imagine what it will sound like with the sports exhaust (though IMHO, this is a dumb option, and should be standard on every Porsche).

At some point, even enthusiast begin to question spending more money on essentially the same looking car. This becomes particularly relevant when the cost of cars in the premium segment increase almost yearly.

I am not saying a radical style change is needed. There is a lot to be said for branding. However, my Viagra comment was meant to regenerate the passion for the 911.  A good start would be to have a sexy aggressive exhaust note which would go a long way to turning heads again as a Porsche drove by. Smiley

    Good points.

Personally, I like the looks tho. Dont really want a change. Why I would buy the new 911? Simply to see how the hell they have managed to improve it Smiley

Agree about the exhaust note... Sexy should be standard

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Thread Closed

    The looks should be changed.

They are in danger of having models that are so subtly different looking that the latest one becomes visually irrelevant in the marketplace.

The car looks old and that can also imply that it is really more for old people than for new generations of buyers. The car still looks like a museum item from the pre cell phone era.Smiley

It is a famous design with a famous profile to its shape, but why keep pretending that it looks modern? The drivers view over the hood with the two rounded fenders looks more like looking over the hood of a old 60s Peugeot 404 than something in the Mclaren MC4-12 era.

And when you view the differences between the current 911 and the coming one, the new one has similar rear shapes as seen on Astons and Jaguars. The back of the car no longer looks German. It looks like a Jag made in a occupied Britain or something

The car should look tactical and aggressive, it doesn't, it looks like a GT and not a outright sports car. I am sure thats what they wanted.

I suggest fixing its shape with a Kamm tail, a lower roof line and a front end with less noticeable curves for a flatter, meaner look. Inside get rid of the center console and change the over stuffed looking seats.

I don't agree JimFlat6. The 911 needs curves, and a timeless design, that way it is instantly recognizable as not only a Porsche, but a 911, whether you are 10 years old or 80 years old. Let me just put it at: Porsche's philosophy has worked for 47 years, and I guarantee it's going to work for another 47.

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Thread Closed

More aggressive design? Why? It's a 911. Trademark of understated daily usability and very damn good sports car performance when needed or desired. That is the package of the 911, which IMHO no competition is still providing to this date. No other car is this solid, this fast, yet this comfortable in the city and sits in this price range.

The 911 is very much alive still. Why break it's DNA to look more aggressive. It's not the Porsche philosophy. Arguably the 911 has never been the beauty queen.. but it doesn't have to be. I love it's somewhat understated design that is timeless and unique.

The wheel arches overhang too much - it needs a wider track/spacers and bigger wheels.

atz - 100% with ya... change the design but not drastically.

the difference of the latest pics is that it is a turbo :)  the air intakes are not painted on anymore, they are real.

    Also agree fully with Aaron.

Re the turbo; the inlets are realy, but they entire hips seem to be covered with camo still.
I am hoping so, 'cause the shape of the inlet almost on top of the hips looks a bit rediculous imo...

I dont like aggressive designs.. I think the 911 has style and class because it doesnt look aggressive

    thanks for posting pics!

(could this possibly be some incarnation of a 991?  aren't the exhaust pipes the same as on the "regular" 991 and since there's no fixed wing -- a first for the turbo right?)

i LOVE the wheel arches but i'm wtih those who want a new solution to that slat -- never liked that or the frog eyes on the 997 turbo (much prefer the slats on the cayman or the 996)

Intouch, is this "wishful thinking", or did you hear this from a reliable source?
Would be good news if the turbo still had the distinguishing wing. One can debate the necessity of a big wing from an aerodynamical point of view, but I have always loved the easthetic difference between the turbo and the base model 911's

    I completely agree

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Thread Closed

That is the funniest mock-up I have seen, a joke to all who pay attention, I am sure! It's a little too fast and furious for a Porsche (and me), even though likely functional. Can't wait to see how the release cars will be styled.

i have no source to confirm this. it's just almost common sense as the turbo always had a wing to seperate it from the rest of the lineup.

100% agree! I'm just praying the new Turbo will keep it's very special personality. The spy shots seems to indicate more or less a lost of individuality at the first perception.
