Thanks everyone! And ya, 20" wheels.. Are the necessary? The ones the test mules are using look Boxster Spyder style, and usually towards the end of testing Porsche uses production wheels, so they will probably be the standard C2S wheels. At least they are very light!

I am thinking turbo based upon pictures. However, what about the rear spoiler. Is this mule configured just for winter testing and production car will have rear wing we are used to seeing on the turbos?

Thank's, maybe I am mistaken, but the front brake disk also looks bigger, that's another reason why I think it's a Turbo.110763522990715809.jpg01.jpegimage14.jpeg

WOW! That's an amazing widebody! Really love it. Sounds weird, and too early, for testing the 991 Turbo though. Seems more like the S-version compared to the non-S. In other threads it's been mentioned that the S will have the widebody while the non-S will have the regular body and that the wide-body is independent of 2wd or 4wd

The larger brake discs looks like ceramics juding by the looks of the discs. So this can just be a trick painting them red like in the car in the pictures.

Much wider indeed, looks promissing. I also say C4S, but if this is the Turbo and finaly we will have a Turbo model without the pimp fixed spoiler, I´m sold to it Smiley

Why would the C4S have functional intakes? I think it's an early Turbo mule.

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Thread Closed

A C4S with real air intakes on the sides and a different exhaust configuration? I seriously doubt that.

Those air intakes only make sense if there are intercoolers behind them. For a naturally aspirated engine it makes little sense (not even a GT3 requires them). So unless Porsche is doing a double-trick here (a camouflaged Carrera which is made to look like a camouflaged Turbo) this is the real deal.

As for the spoiler, maybe the new spoiler design is sufficient and the Turbo does not get a wing. Or they are simply testing the new Turbo engine in a Carrera shell, which has been widened to fit the intercoolers.

Exactly my thoughts. It would be quite surprising to see a Turbo without a wing for the first time but I suppose it could be done in the name of greater efficiency.

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Thread Closed

This is the Turbo mule, yes. But the whole thing is camo'd guys. You can tell there's skin over the entire rear arches paneling as well as that intake is fake... Well it's real to let in the needed air, but its 997 style... expect something more along the lines of a 918 side intake... you can tell by looking right below the current inlet... in the sheet metal... My biggest concern is that it'll have a similar rear spoiler...

indeed shifting is ancient technology - so is a fuel burning engine..  I happen to like both :)

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Thread Closed

I hope the new turbo does not have the wing, and pray it does not have those awful side intakes again.  The intakes are a cheap--and anachronistic--visual element (although certainly functional).  No doubt they save Porsche some $$--since it is surely cheaper to cut them into a C4S rear panel--but IMHO the turbo should distance itself more from the other wide body models...

The Turbo still has a camo shell over the intake, so it may not really be wider....but it would be nice!

    Wonderbar:

I hope the new turbo does not have the wing, and pray it does not have those awful side intakes again.

Then the Porsche engineers better learn some new magic tricks Smiley The turbo needs one or more intercoolers. It used to sit on top of the engine in the air cooled models, hence the monstrous wing on 993, 964, etc. It was simply there to house (read hide) the intercooler. Once they split it to two intercoolers and moved them to beside the wheels it was necessary to add the side intakes to source the air (the larger wing was no longer required, but a styling feature of the turbo). So, a 991 turbo with no wing or no air intakes will be one hard nut to crack since there is no place for the intercooler in that case.

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Thread Closed

hmm when this is the real deal maybe without a rear spoiler, for me it looks bland. The Turbo needs a lil bit more wow

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Thread Closed

Without the rear spoiler, the turbo would become a vanilla 911 but at almost twice the cost. It is the hallmark of the turbo.

Also, isn't it a little early to be testing the 991 Turbo? I thought the Turbo is usually introduced almost one year after the initial 911's.

    I still believe this is a C4S.

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Thread Closed

I do believe this is the Turbo, and the reason there is no front aero, or wing is because there is no point in doing aero testing when you can only go 30mph. It's probably just an early chassis test for the 991 Turbo, and they just modified the Carrera's shell to accommodate the turbocharged engine. I'm sure it will have a traditional spoiler, better looking intakes etc.

BTW, if you can't notice the wider body look at the rocker panels. Only wide body models get extended rocker panels, which this one has.

Nah, they'll be too busy celebrating the record sales and profit figures which Porsche announced after the Frankfurt stock market closed today.
(I haven't seen an English language report on the press release yet, otherwise I'd link to it here).

I can understand why. Going from Ferrari back to Porsche was eye opening. No doubt Porsche has much do offer. Sadly, they still lack a styling dept. Hopefully, VW will have some input in the future.

My more immediately concern is Porsche taking a page out of the Ferrari book i.e. the buyer has money, lets soak him/her for all their worth for options that should be standard.Smiley

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Thread Closed

If all options were standard it would make no sense. It's better to start from a base and add everything you want, then to start from something jam packed with a bunch of junk you don't want, and only a few things you do.

RC-- any thoughts on what the spy shots are?

when did the 997 Turbo spyshots first show up?  How long before it's public debut?

I think that a turbo has a heritage to follow.

It has always had a rear spoiler. After all its a different kind of beast.

You pay premium and it ...must show..!

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Thread Closed

Just great to see, that the stickers we know from the camo 991 looks exactly like those intakes of this car. In other words - they had this thing done for many years already!
