Christian,in fact at first look seems longer than a 911

But looking better, has a lot of parts more of a 911 than of a Panamera..but the air inlet for the intercoolers are fake,is too big,too thin, and specially from this angle ...i think you are right...

    997 TT, what a car!!!

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

I give you guys two hints:

    1. it doesn't make ANY sense to camouflage a 998 at this point of time, simply because Porsche can drive around with 998 technology in the 997

    2. such a camouflage makes only sense if the car is close to production(a year or so)

    3. during my time in the foreign service I learned that the best place to hide something is to hide it in something hidden, so nobody looks further for it Smiley

The 998(whatever) is not due before 2010 or 2011. The Turbo is at least three years away.

    Now do the math...

I don't know if Porsche will call this a Panamera Coupe or Ferdie Coupe or whatever but it doesn't look like the next generation Turbo to me, sorry.

    the cayman mistake again?

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

Porsche won't create something called Panamera coupe as they are already marketing the car as a four door sports car, making a coupe of a four door coupe is redundant.

This mule is a 998 and there's no point in reading too much into it as it's a very early stage test mule so the body kit is just there to cover what's below. Here porsche are just testing the chassi, engine, transmission and suspension i.e the under pinnings. The real body kit will be coming on in one year or so when launch is just 2 year away. Since the car won't be too different from the 997 in terms of overall design and shape Porsche can use the 997 body kit for quite a while until it's time to test the 998 body.

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

    its not the 998 mule..

overhangs are too long on both the rear and the front, the rear already shows signs of relationship to the panamera and yes the overal wheel length seems bigger than 911 as well...  the rear features are a good 10 inches longer than 911..

If they are testing the 998 already, which is very likely i don't think they'll run around trying to cover the final body design. Early design is done in 997 disguise im sorry...

This has to be a 928 successor to please people hating the Panamera intro.. same platform, same engines... just more space than 911/cayman and less doors than the Panamera ;)

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

+ those side intakes are fake.... how will they test a TT without finalized intake numbers...

Makes this pretty obvious: NOT THE NEXT 911 HERE!

Like I said before: it doesn't have to be called Panamera Coupe. Smiley

How about Panamera GT or just GT.

Anyway: a two door coupe makes sense if you're looking at Porsche's model range recently.

The 911 may have two doors but for some drivers, this car may be too sporty and not comfortable enough. I won't even mention the rear seats of the 911 which are only suitable for small kids.

A Grand Tourismo coupe makes a lot of sense, this is why I think that we're going to see one sooner or later if the Panamera "adventure" succeeds.

    the roofline is certainly 911

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

Yes, no doubt in my mind.

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

Panamera Coupe with rear engine layout and wheelbase of around 2380mm....? So, you are suggesting that "Panamera Coupe" will be rear engine car? Because that test mule is according to high res pics definitely rear engine car...

I'd take that as a hint. So a 2+2 rear engine car is in the pipe line?? 599GTB competitor??

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

to me it looks just like a ordinary 997 turbo with a new back that is covered to hide the new external goodies for 997.2 turbo. New wing and new lights.... the front looks like any 997.2. Can't this just be that porsche decided to give the 997.2 turbo, gt2,gt3 and the other top-line 997.2 a new rear to differentiate it more from 997.2 carreras?

The side turbo air intakes are fake, they are "painted in".

Yes, the front and especially the rear of the facelifted 997 Turbo are a bit different compared to the current one. There is however no need to drive it around in such a heavy camouflage. Smiley Anyway: it doesn't matter what I say, I could be wrong. Smiley

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

All of us are just guessing here.

My guess is 998 C2. Just because they have phony turbo intakes does not rule out non-turbo 998. The back camel hump is just disguise.

A little lower and longer 911. imo

If it is a new 2+2 coupe, rear engine, then what is the engine? It certainly does not look like there is space for a V8.

    So, either a classic flat-6 or a new flat-8.

If it is the next generation 998, then all points to a bigger chassis.

If it is a 2+2 Coupe built on the Panamera platform, it would be a front-engined V8...

    Really interesting!

I don't understand the shape of the rear lights yet, but the hips look promising. It really shows a wide track. A 2-door panamera is a nice idea; finally all the fans of the 928 might get their ways!
