I' ll just liven things up shall I? - I thought Glock might go to McLaren Smiley

Re: 2009 F1 season drivers! (speculate & confirm in here)

I predict Bruno Senna driving for Honda next year, and then join Alonso at Ferrari in 2010 :)

If Kovalainen doesn't get more team points next year I can't see him lasting too long at McLaren.

Re: 2009 F1 season drivers! (speculate & confirm in here)

The big news announced today is that Fernando Alonso will remain at Renault until the end of the 2010 season. That he is staying with Renault is no surprise at all. The surprise IMO is that he committed to them for 2 years. If I had been in his shoes, I would have thought about staying for 1 year in case an opportunity opened up at BMW at the end of the 2009 season. I guess he is sending a clear signal to Ferrari that he will be available to join them for the 2011 season when a slot becomes available there.

The other surprise is that Renault has granted Nelsinho Piquet another year. No offence to him, but I thought his days there were almost over.

Honda is trialing a few guys before deciding whether to keep Button and Barrichello. It's a shabby way to treat Button who is the only driver to give Honda a race win. He has sacrificed his career for them and now they reward him with the stress of waiting around when it was their 'dog' of a car that was undriveable that kept his performances so poor all this season (and last year too). I don't like Nick Fry much...

    Cheers,

That's good news. I think Renault will have a competitive car again next season, so seeing Alonso in there will make the season very very interesting. We'll see 4 or 5 different Grand Prix winners at least!! Commitment for two years is pretty serious fom his part, but i guess he's really part of that team.. but we all know these contracts can be broken at any time.

As for Honda, well they better keep Button, he's a great driver and deserves more than this! At least give him a competitive car!!

I wish i could edit my list in the initial post, but i guess once there's enough new known info ill make a new post!

Re: 2009 F1 season drivers! (speculate & confirm in here)

Renault certainly improved this year with Alonso, his demands and progress certainly motivated the whole team. This actually might have caused Kubica to complain about his position at BMW, being the better performing team at the beginning of the season but far less competitive at the end.

A couple of teams, including Honda, have stopped development or limited ressources on the ´08 car very early in favour for the upcoming season´s car.

As you say Easy, Alonso signed for two more years, but he can break that contract and end it only in one year....Alonso has the last word, if he isnt happy with the improvement of renault and the new R29, he can break the contract for 2010.

But well, anyways....I think Alonso's last chance to join Ferrari will be in 2010, after that I really doubt he will move on to ferrari in 2011...

Lets pray he moves to Marannello in 2010....... Now I hate Massa and Kimi, even more than Hamilton Smiley

Re: 2009 F1 season drivers! (speculate & confirm in here)

Wow thanks for the into. I knew they would touch the rear wing quite significantly to make for less downforce increasing action in races, but this thing is hidious. It's a full 15cm higher and way less wide... looks so od. The rest seems to make sense to me. the recovery system thing is a good thing, because F1 is all about pushing boundries to eventually benefit the public automobile technologies.

The rear car looks really good though, apart from the rear wing.

     cheers

Re: 2009 F1 season drivers! (speculate & confirm in here)

I still would like to see a F1 with less rules, because the more rules there are, the more specialised solutions will be. I don't care if someone finds a smart way to work around some arbitrary rules.

In WRC it's little different, I don't think it's practical in any way to squeeze out that much horsepower from a 2 litres engine...

Lets be honest, this might be a playground of high technology, but the impact on normal street cars is very limited.

I'd really like to see Button given a chance in a competitive car.

I know contracts get in the way, but If somehow Button could join Hamilton at McLaren, making it an all British line-up, we'd see what Jenson can really do.

Hamilton stepped straight into a winning team - how about giving Button a break....Smiley

Re: 2009 F1 season drivers! (speculate & confirm in here)

What will be good next year is that the slicks are back. Just hope that it want be a mess for bernie. Oh BTW about bernie here what i read about a new crazy thinking his having:

For those who understand French for the others here the translation:

" Bernie Eccleston seems decided to putt a radical change for the points attribution. He wishes that gold, silver and bronze medals are distribute to the 3 first of the races and that the title goes to the one having the more medals."

As this system  works or is used for all others sports why not in F1. This is what he wish. will see. Hope you did understand my translation.

Re: 2009 F1 season drivers! (speculate & confirm in here)

Merci! What´s on Bernie´s mind? He does indeed intend to exchange points with medals for the top three finishers, according to him the teams would be happy with this decision. According to him, it would encourage more drivers to battle for the upfront position, hence more passing manouvres. I honestly have my doubts, there is less chance for the mid-fielders to display their performance.

Every car from fourth position on would be obsolete. This is not a problem of the drivers but of the inherent challenges in today´s F1 aerodynamics. The new rules, featuring the KERS system and its passing-boost function as well as the adaptable aerodynamic assitance, water down the true abilities of the driver. If one wants to reduce cost, he should not implement additional and, in my eyes, rather useless technology.

Re: 2009 F1 season drivers! (speculate & confirm in here)

I don´t know why, but I see the cars very similar....to this...
