As long as there is no back to back review of both cars, we should be careful with our claims. I have some information which would shed some light into this whole discussion but I can't use it and to be honest, I don't want to use it because we would start "argueing" again.

Just wait for a real review in a car magazine. I bet there will be magazines where the Z06 is faster and there will be others where the 997 Turbo will be faster. But to give you a little hint of what to expect (and this information is based on FACTS and COMPARISON and not just rumors): a 997 Turbo with manual stands no chance against the Z06 on the straight line but on the other hand, the Z06 looses on the track (Hockenheim and Nordschleife). And to give you another hint: we'll do a REAL LIFE back to back comparison between a 997 Turbo Tiptronic and Corvette Z06 sometimes in July this year. Because of the difference in driving skills/experience/etc., we can't do a track comparison (a comparison with different drivers would be stupid). But at least you guys get an idea of straight line performance.
I just hope that the Z06 owner, who happens to be a member of our Rennteam Germany team, doesn't tune his car til then (as he already planned).

I guess you want to jump in and end this discussion by stating that the Z06 looses on the track. And you say it is based on facts and comparisons, not rumors. And, of course you do NOT state where thes facts and comparisons come from!!! So I will once again state that the Z did the ring in 7:42.9 with no mods except for the seat and a 3 point harness. No engine mods...no tire mods (Goodyear OEM runflats), no suspension mods and NO rolling start. This is doccummnted in 2 rags (Corvette Quarterly and Sports Car Magazine), and one is by the driver (Jan Magnuson).
So if its time for you to end this, please don't bring your biased views into play.

I will respectfully say that it has been stated REPEATEDLY, in response to YOUR POSTS that the 7:42.9 lap time was achieved with a flying start. A realistic time would be at least five seconds slower.

    Agreed.

Besides, the TRUE American supercars are the Saleen S7 TT and the Mosler MT900S, nicely reviewed in the April 2006 C&D. Some acceleration numbers C&D clocked, sufficient to send the 'Vette lovers into spasm:

    Saleen S7 Garrett GT35R twin-turbocharged to 6.0psi 750bhp/700lb-ft/2,968lb curb weight:
    0-60mph 3.4
    0-100mph 6.2
    Standing to quarter 10.9 trapped @ 140mph

Mosler MT900S Magnuson supercharger, Eaton, Roots type to 6.0psi/intercooled 600bhp/557lb-ft/2,539lb curb weight:
    0-60mph 3.1 (starting in second gear )
    0-100mph 6.5
Standing to quarter 11.0 at 135mph-in comparison, my juiced-up 996TTS is rated for the quarter in a "paltry" 11.4 at a "sluggish" 126mph.

Now I say it's time to put this ZO6 obsession to sleep.

    Re: Z06 - AMS test !

    It has just begun.

The Z06 has obviously upset many people, one of the longest running threads on Rennteam.

    Re: Z06 - AMS test !

    Here is something for comparison:
    Corvetter Z06 AMS 6/2006
    0-100km/h: 4.0s
    0-160km/h: 7.9s
    0-200km/h:11.9s
    60-100km/h: 4.0s/6.0s(4/5)
    80-120km/h: 6.1s/11.1s(5/6)
    1.-98km/h 2.-146km/h 3.-202km/h 4.-264km/h 5.-320km/h(6250rpm) 6. way tooo long(320km/h at 4100rpm!!??)
    weight: 1453kg

    Carrera CGT AMS 23/2003

    0-100km/h: 3.8s
    0-160km/h: 7.3s
    0-200km/h:10.9s
    60-100km/h: 3.8s/4.8s(4/5)
    80-120km/h: 4.6s/6.3s(5/6)
    1.-81km/h 2.-139km/h 3.-181km/h 4.-237km/h 5.-282km/h 6.-330km/h(at 8300rpm)
    weight 1472kg

    Lamborghini Gallardo(500hp model)
    AMS 23/2003

    0-100km/h: 4.2s
    0-160km/h: 9.0s
    0-200km/h:13.8s
    60-100km/h: 4.8s/6.2s(4/5)
    80-120km/h: 6.3s/8.1s(5/6)
    1.-105km/h 2.-147km/h 3.-194km/h 4.-240km/h 5.-291km/h 6.-309km/h(at 7400rpm)
    weight: 1612kg

These data are for comparison only... But, it seems that Gallardo is torque king! New MY2006 version with shorter gear ratios(first 27% shorter...) should be even faster and more impressive with 520hp. Any way since AMS will be the first mag that will test 997 Turbo lets wait for that...

Sorry Branimir, I dont quite understand how you come to the conlusion that the Gallardo is a torque king.

If you draw the conclusion from the in gear acceleration times that is not correct, because the Z06 reaches top speed in 5th. So in order to do an apples to apples comparison you have to look at the z06s 4th and 5th gear versus the lambos 5th and 6th.

So while the Gallardo takes 8.1 secs from 80-120 in 6th (top speed gear), the z06 takes just 6.1 secs in 5th (top speed gear), which shows a strong superiority by the Corvette. That engine must pull like an ox no matter what gear you are in!

The Turbo 997 will probably be closer to the z06 numbers than to the Gallardo's.. , we'll know soon - hopefully!!

    Re: Z06 - AMS test !

Turbolite, you may be right... But, Gallardo engine have impressive torque for high reving engine...
Here are two more for comparison:

    BMW M6 AMS 12/2005

    0-100km/h: 4.2s
    0-160km/h: 8.7s
    0-200km/h:13.0s
    60-100km/h: 4.4s/5.8s/6.7s(4/5/6)
    80-120km/h: 5.5s/6.7s/9.4s(5/6/7)
    1.-71km/h 2.-108km/h 3.-160km/h 4.-207km/h 5.-247km/h 6.-281km/h 7.-305km/h(at 7350rpm with 07ME option)
    weight: 1760kg
One thing-M6 is capable to reach over 330km/h at 8300rpm but, BMW do not allow that because of aerodynamics and tires.

    Ferrari F430F1 AMS 9/2005

    0-100km/h: 3.9s
    0-160km/h: 8.6s
    0-200km/h:13.0s
    60-100km/h: 3.7s/5.1s(4/5)
    80-120km/h: 4.5s/7.3s(5/6)
    1.-77km/h 2.-120km/h 3.-159km/h 4.-199km/h 5.-243km/h 6.-316km/h(at 8850rpm)
    weight: 1488kg

Also here are data from M6 Sport Auto Supertest:

    Re: Z06 - AMS test !

thanks for the data! do you have the same AMS set at hand for the 996tt by any chance?

    cheers

    Re: Z06 - AMS test !

    Here we go...

    996 Turbo(X50 kit-450Hp) AMS 25/2002(comparison with SL55)

    0-100km/h: 3.8s(!!)
    0-160km/h: 8.2s
    0-200km/h:12.4s(!!)
    Unfortunately no in-gear data...
    Weight: 1578kg

    996 Turbo Cabrio(420Hp) AMS 19/2003

    0-100km/h: 4.3s
    0-160km/h: 9.5s
    0-200km/h:14.6s
    60-100km/h: 4.4s/6.2s(4/5)
    80-120km/h: 5.1s/7.4s(5/6)
    1.-60km/h 2.-115km/h 3.-162km/h 4.-206km/h 5.-250km/h 6.-305km/h(at 6600rpm)
    Weight: 1660kg

So, pretty impressive for 996 Turbo with X50? If new 997 Turbo(manual with optional LSD) is not faster then old 996 Turbo(manual,X50) then I do not know what to say...
Old 996 Turbo(manual,X50) or 996 Turbo S is fast as new 997 Turbo with TIP, at leas on paper...

    Re: Z06 - AMS test !

ok, I will say it now again: the carrera GT dissapoints..its should do 160 in mid 6's and even the brochure says 200 KPH in 9.9, its a full second off!

    Re: Z06 - AMS test !

The test you are referring to (996tt Kit) should not be the reference. I believe Porsche was pretty mad at DCX for screwing a "SLR development engine" into a ordinary SL55, take it to Nardo (AMS test) and beat cars like the GT2 in acceleration.

I think for this particular test Porsche also supplied a very healthy engine - at least 500hp in my opinion

The 997tt (tip) will be substantially faster than the 996tt kit manual, no questions about that.

    OAB

That is a full 10% off the brochure time! That is a case of factory figures not being conservative. 0 - 200kph in 10.9 seconds is poor considering an F40 from 16years ago can cover the 0 - 200 in 11 seconds with 130 hp less and no TC.
