Judging from the raw data, we have two cars with almost the same BHP (F=490, BMW=507) but a big diff in weight (F= 1450 kg, BMW= 1830kg).
Same BHP (+-17 BHP) and a diff of 400kg kerb weight....that would make the Ferrari eat the Beemer easily.
But maybe - on top of that - the BMW driver is not able to get the most out of the car.
IMO dragracing has always been pretty boring and don't revealt a lot.
Put them on a track with equally skilled drivers instead, and I believe the F will own the Beemer even more.

A car magazine here in Greece put many cars on a track and the 430 made 1m30sec just for fun while the M5 was 6+sec slower. And the track is relatively small. 430 also beated a 911(996?/the previous model) biturbo gemballa for 2sec! And i think porsche is 4wd... So, FERRARI RULES !!!

okay okay.. comparisons between the 430 and the new 997 tt already is not the time.. but Im sooo happy that the m5 take a very bad against the ferrari!! im a PORSCHE FAN.. and i was waiting to see the m5, loosing a drag because the guys of m5,m6board.com just post the videos of m5 winning everybody.. and we can imagine what the new 997 tt will do with the M's

I'm quite sure the F430 is faster than the M5. It's a sports car designed for racing, the M5 is a saloon sports car.
However that Clarkson couldn't even break 1.57 mins on Laguna Seca. After speeding 2 days there. That's in an NSX which even I got 1.53 back in 94 in mine which was stock except for hoosier tires. So he ain't that hot a driver. Sabine Schmitz spanked him 45 sec on the Ring. He is a good driver for power slides etc, but racing is not his forte.

Thats why I miss tiff, he could do all the great powerslides or turn in amazing lap times. A great driver.

The 'true' kerb weight of the 430 is close to 1540kg.

Well I found Tiff even more irritating than Clarkson, driver's skills notwithstanding. Tiff is definitely a better driver but Clarkson and May are better presenters and in the end that's all that matters on TV.
