    TT vs GT3 questions

Does the GT3 have a wide body like that of the TT?

Can someone please explain the advantages and disadvantages of the two model?

Does the GT3 RS come with wide body?

Which of the two is best to be daily driven?

I want a TT with the GT3 front
    Thank you

no, the GT3 has no wide body

GT3 = high reving "race car", also for track use...
turbo = super fast daily driver with much torque

yes, it seems so that the upcoming GT3RS will come as a wide body

for daily street use the turbo is better

    Re: TT vs GT3 questions

turbo better...that rather depends if you want your daily feedback turned up to 11.

    I do.

    Is that a trick question?

    Re: TT vs GT3 questions

I'm in Orlando FL, so pretty much great all year driving weather, but next year i'm gonna be living in Toronto Cananda, I plan on getting a GT3 but what do you guys think about it all year round?

Is it that unreasonable to want to use it daily in the winter?

    what do you all think?

If you are familiar with rallying (preferable) or have experience about racing, then a GT3 is a good way of arriving to work in Canada in winter (sideways) a bit extreme IMO

I think people comparing GT3 vs TT do not get the first one is almost a race car, please take very seriously any GT3 buy, as it TC wont save many situations. Even a very experienced driver, used to racing will tell you he needs to respect a lot a GT3 specially in wet or snow.

About a TT (is so good) is build that both a race driver and somebody that knows little about driving can enjoy the car safely

    Re: TT vs GT3 questions

And I want a 997 Turbo with a VTG charged Carrera GT derived V10 engine with 700 HP, maximum 1200 kg of weight and sequential shifting.

    Woohoo....I want that too

    Re: TT vs GT3 questions

Well I didnt compare them in that sense, its fairly obvious that a tt will do better all year around, I guess I just wanted to know how a GT3 would do on its own in the winter, know what I mean?

As you said they are hard cars to control (which I'm aware of).

But dont they still get tested in the snow before they are made into production? in all conditions?

But I'm set on both cars, I love em both, I'm still trying to find as much info on them so I can choose which one.

    Thanks for the help btw,

    Re: TT vs GT3 questions

I'm not sure but doesn't the FL in your signature mean FLORIDA? You shouldn't really worry too much about snow.

To be serious: the GT3 has been tested under various weather conditions, including snow, too. But it is not the perfect winter car, especially since it is very likely that no winter tires will be available for this car, at least not officially from the factory.
The lack of PSM also may indicate a more delicate behaviour of this car in snow or even under rainy conditions.

Personally, I would NOT recommend to get the GT3 as a daily driver in countries with lots of snow and/or rainy/low temperatures conditions. Of course you can drive almost ANY car in snow (our Co-Editor-in-Chief CR even drove his F430 in winter time with summer tires) but you don't really want to do that since it is no real fun from a certain point of driving. One reason why I went for the 997 Turbo instead of the GT3 was the winter over here in Bavaria. I drive my cars all year long and didn't want to leave my GT3 in the garage during winter time.

Yeah, FL (Florida), next year i'll be in Toronto Canada,

Yeah I also want my porsche to be a daily driver, I guess a tt would be the smart way to go, I couldnt live with myself if I bought a car and then had to lock it up in the garage for half the year.

    Re: TT vs GT3 questions

997 GT3 Winter tyres and wheels.

    Winter wheels

    Front: 8 J x 19, RO 57
    Rear: 11 J x 19, RO 67

    Tyres

    Front: 235/35 R19
    Rear: 295/30 R19

    Thanks. I missed that.
But I still wouldn't want to drive this car as a daily driver in winter time (no PSM, too low).

    Re: TT vs GT3 questions

    Hey Revo,

Don't forget that the Turbo has all wheel drive. That makes it a perfect winter car. However, the layout is 40% front and 60% rear which is rather sporty and will not give you the same traction as a true 4x4.

The GT3 is a hardcore Porsche. In its newest form it does have aircon etc. still, the chassis, suspension and engine setup are truly track oriented. Would love to see somebody revving it to 8400 rpm in the snow. He would be going straight, but with the rear in front

The Gt3 is really designed toward weekend use. Its not a daily driver. Sure you can drive even an Ariel Atom everyday in all conditions but you certainly would not enjoy it after a while.

Where I live, the roads are really not that good. So I use my Cayenne twice as much as I use my 997. Surely I enjoy my 997 much more but I simply can't be bothered sometimes.

Of the two I would certainly go for the 997 Turbo (which I did )

Its an accomplished daily driver with (I hope) supercar performance.

The other reason why I would never get a GT3 as much as I respct and like it, is the rear wing...it's really fugly.

Looks good on an Impreza WRX 16 STI V VHS DVD PalSecam but not on a 997. Its overdone.

    Re: TT vs GT3 questions

Yeah, The wing is not exactly the best looking feature the car has,

anyway, I was reading this article about the 997 GT3 and it says the car has PSM, maybe a mistak on the part of the author?

    Yeah,

It will probably have BETTER traction than a true 4x4.

    Re: TT vs GT3 questions

911's are not exactly lacking in the traction department with 2WD. Just a thought.

RC, I think he was thinking of the weight split front-to-rear, and you are thinking of the torque split.

One of a couple of errors in this article, which are untypical of Ian Kuah.

Maybe his GT3 drive left him slightly inebriated.

Isnt that just a Audighini Gallardo with E gear and
    Twin Turbos?

The factory does offer snow tires/wheels.

All it takes is money guys!

    Re: TT vs GT3 questions

no no no. not thinking of weight split. that should be very close to 50-50 !!

torque split is maximum 40 front 60 rear. even now that its electronically controlled.

remember one of the first videos that appeared of the 997 turbo? car was standing still on ice and rear wheel was slipping, while front wheel was standing still.

    Re: TT vs GT3 questions

Tip- get a GT3 if you live in a NICE area that has warm weather and a place that DOESN'T HAVE MUCH RAIN (meaning, California, Texas, AZ, NM, maybe florida)... otherwise you guys with GT3's that try and drive them as a every day car are going to wind up spinning out on ur way to work everytime the weather dips or a the road is slick. The GT3 is a race car that can be driven on the street. HOWEVER, it is best to learn how to drive it on the track... it really doesn't drive like a normal porsche.. it's a bit different and takes skill to handle correctly.

The TT is a great everyday driver that is crazy sporty. You can take a TT to the track (but that would be kinda cheating b/c it's AWD). But again, since it's AWD it's PERFECT for any type of weather or driving condition.... the thing is a rock when it comes to driving. However, it does have alot of power--- so you have to make EDUCATED decisions on how hard to push it in certain conditions.

    Soooo....

GT3- race car that should be taken to the track and driven hard. HOWEVER, it can be driven as a daily driver--- but LEARN how to drive it. It doesn't react the same as a normal car or porsche does. It's best in DRY- WARM weather.
(the same can be said with the GT2 when it comes out again.) Also, alot of the issues deal with the TIRES-- the tires are made for optimal weather conditions... not winter or anything like that- and this is a SERIOUS thing to keep in mind. If you buy it, make sure you have tires for winter (if you have a winter where you live).

TT- everyday driver, a notch up from the normal 911's. AWD and more power, great fun to drive --- easy to drive on long trips (the gt3 would be a hassle on long trips).

    Re: TT vs GT3 questions

Thanks for all the help, I've decided on the TT.

and i'm very excited about my choice.

    Re: TT vs GT3 questions

I've put some GT3 questions on the GT3(i.e 997) board. Here's the link: GT3 questions

The GT3 has TC not PSM. If you're like me (a 997TT PDK'r), considering a GT3 PDK (if it will exist) might be a 'fun' option (for non daily use).
