    Re: OFFICIAL: New Panamera (2016)

Spent some time today around and inside a new Turbo (silver/black) and a 4S (midnight blue/black).  Impressions:

    1. Exterior is overall more elegant and "beautiful" , but almost too smooth and clean.  i do miss the older Panamera character and distinctiveness, but I would not buy the older version compared to the new one.  As others have said, the new one is more "generic" and less Porsche like.  But I will say that neither car had the rear spoiler activated, only had 20 inch Panamera Design rims, and neither had a sport design package. With 21 rims, an activated spoiler and a sport design kit, the exterior design would have had a far more sporty and Porsche like appearance.  The darker color also helps reduce the long and smooth generic look.

    2.  Interior is greatly improved, much cleaner and less obtrusive.  The front seats are narrower, and back seer view toward the front is very open and relaxing.  Porsche really did a fine job on this interior.

My Cayenne Turbo lease expires in a year, and I have been toying with the idea of jumping out early and going with a new Panamera..  As of now, I am not persuaded, especially since my current lifestyle is more oriented toward family trips, tennis gear, etc.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New Panamera (2016)

The new Cayenne could be a great option, the Panamera interior and the versatility of a sporty SUV.

Agree, Mikla.  Rumor is that the next generation Cayenne will be shown at Frankfurt this year.  Can anyone confirm?

Might be a few months too early.

I believe the GT2RS and the Panamera Turbo S might make Frankfurt though.

Very likely. For me, the Panamera turbo S will be very interesting as it will show how well Porsche can integrate electrical drive and traditional engine in lower-priced products (compared to the 918). The drive-train of this car is an early quasi-prototype for the 992 it seems to me.

New Cayenne will be available end of this year...so I think it needs to make an official appearance before that. Smiley

Just talked to PCNA regional rep who told me that Panamera 4S Hybrid delivery in USA has moved out from July 2017 to sometime 4Q 2017.  I asked if this meant that the Turbo S Hybrid was now1Q 2018 and he just shrugged.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New Panamera (2016)

Today I was driving the new Panamera turbo on twisty roads here in the black forest. Man, this car is doing unbelievable things. Never could imagine, that such a huge car can go so fast in tight corners.

It is incredible! I own still the previous Panamera turbo and I have to say, they made a huge progress with that car. Never ever have driven a car with more the two doors so fast around black forest streets.

Porsche, chapeau for creating this Panamera turbo.

You can still feel the weight but they definitely improved the steering and the chassis. RWS also does wonders, especially for such a big car. Shaves off at least 200-300 kg of weight...at least this is how it feels.

No doubt, a very dynamic sports limousine and I just love the interior. Smiley

Never drive the car, I am serious. When I sat in a 4S Diesel for the very first time, I wanted to get the car right away. I am happy I resisted the urge because I'm really not a sedan type of guy, never was.

Why don't you wait for the next Cayenne gen? Then, make your choice.

Biturbo thanks for sharing. Can you post the technical specs page?

There's something fishy here, how come Audi is so much faster than Porsche in acceleration having basically the same Hp and weight and be as fast as the 700hp American beast???? Will this be the same RS7 clients will receive? I doubt it! This RS7 must have been tuned for this test, it couldn't achieved 25sec to 280kph with "only" 560hp and weighting more than 2 tons.

Braking distance difference are scary from Porsche to others, might be the difference between leaving the accident scene without a scratch or having your car totaled. Track performance for the Americans shows with this kind of power you have to go 4wd in order to explore all hp properly.

Max speed for Cadillac and Dodge is Smiley and price difference for Porsche is almost pathetic.

For driving fun purpose those Americans must be the drift kings and way more fun than the Germans. If I had to choose only one for a weekend ride Dodge would be my choice but to keep it for two or three years Panamera is the one.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New Panamera (2016)

Audi is RS7 Plus with 605ps.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New Panamera (2016)

The RS7 (with the Sport package and thus 605hp) was tested by a German magazine with approx. 31-32s for 0-300kph. The RS6 was much slower (like close to 40s) - they explained this by the far better aerodynamics of the RS7.

Price, acceleration of the RS7 are excellent. Unfortunately, the Panamera has much better brakes it seems. Also, it has the far nicer interior and also a better styling in general. It also feels nimbler in terms of handling. Also, the RS7 will be replaced soon by a completely new model.

Getting one of these cars would not feel perfect as you always know which downsides your choice has compared to the other Smiley

    Re: OFFICIAL: New Panamera (2016)

    All true.

But... RS7 Performance is with similar options around 50k € cheaper then Panamera Turbo. That is in all books a lot of money. Also, on its natural territory known as Autobahn RS7 is faster. New Panamera is a great car, no doubt about it.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New Panamera (2016)

    Kreso,

even if you would have 1000 hp and could drive 400 km/h, there is no real world chance to drive it at German highways. You can find a free highway at night, but driving very fast during "normal" hours is seldom.

So it is all about emotions and their the "ugly" RS7 looses every ground.

There is nothing really fishy here: The RS7 beats the RS6 by more than 6 or 8 seconds from 0-300 kph. Aerodynamics according to a car magazine (Sport Auto?). There has been a review with the RS7 Performance, RS6 Performance and S8 Plus in comparison and even the S8 Plus was faster to 300 kph than the RS6. Same engines in all three cars.

The RS7 is only two 2-3 seconds slower than my R8 from 0-300 kph. It gains a lot in the 220 to 280 kph speed range.

It cannot be excluded however that this RS7 Performance was in a pretty good shape: Usually, the car needs slightly over 11 seconds from 0-200 kph.

RC, I agree with you. I tested the 4S Diesel yesterday and was very impressed. Agile handling and a torquey engine made for an attractive package. The only drawback compared to the "old" V8 Diesel engine in the current gen Cayenne S Diesel is the lack of sound, the old engine had this warm, deep growl that the new one just cannot match. Otherwise, both on the motorway and twisty country roads, one hell of a sedan.

True, very true. Smiley Maybe the sound comes after a while? My wife's Cayenne S Diesel sounded pretty quiet at first but now it sounds really nice, like a V8...sadly only from the outside. Smiley

The car has those optional noise insulation windows and while you can still lead a normal conversation at 240 kph, you can barely hear the exhaust sound. At any speed. Smiley

I love the new interior, even if I think the touch buttons are not an optimal solution (not the touch function per se but the implementation).
