GT3 tyres

Hi

My first post on the board...

I'm about to spec a new GT3 for April '04 delivery. I'm set on everything except the choice of tyres.

I've heard a lot of stories about the Michelin Pilot Sport's not being that great.

Am I right in thinking the Pirelli Rosso Corsa's are a better alternative? Also, are there different types of these tyres available?

I should point out that I need a tyre that I can used all year round and will be mainly for road use

Hi Craig

The Standard GT3 and CS both come on the Pilot's. The RS comes on the Corsa. I don't think you can specify the tyres.

The RS comes with a specially adapted Corsa to allow better wet handling, and I guess these will be hard to come by.

When I first got my GT3, I had the Pilot's changed for Corsa's and used these for tracks and road use during the summer. With the intention of using the Pilot's for winter use. In the end I ended up buying a second set of wheels, so I can change over when necessary.

Actually in Italy the GT3 is delivered with the Pirelli Rosso.
It is a N5 tyre and performs extremely well, probably better than the Pilot Sport 2, which seem to have a tricky compound.
You might want to check on the availability...

Hi,

I just received confirmation on the production date of my gt3 RS which will be built in week 5 04. (should have been in December 03) I was thinking of changing the original tyres to the ones fitted to the M3 CSL (Michelin pilot CUP ??) As I understand the original ones are specially suited for wet weather use ?? I will probably never use the car in rain anyway and would be happy to trade wet weather handling for extra track grip. Anyone have any idea if there are other downsides of the CUP tyres ??

Your'e not on their (easytrack) list of entries though!
If you are going and the weather isn't total poo we might come and watch. Journo man is also in the vicinity so maybe catch up with you on Sunday 21st at Brands. Regards Gary

Are you in England? From the spelling of "tyres" that looks likely. In the States the GT3 comes with Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires, a huge improvement over the normal Pilot Sport, which I believe is the subject of the "not that great" comments. The Pirelli Corsa is the equivalent of the Pilot Sport Cup, and both are nearly R-compound in their wear and grip characteristics. The PS2 is a great street solution, the PSC and Corsa more applicable if you track the car alot.
