i ve done some research on this,
and it happends that 90% ,
the cracking noise, is not from the rear side windows,
BUT from the REAR window at the side corners..
CHECK the carpet and the plastics where they "find" the lower edge of the Rear window....
TO be more simple check the rear interior corners of your car...
When you reach them try to press-sqease them with your hand..
When you press them hard with your fingertips you will hear a cracking noise...this cracking noise is loud ,and when you hear it from the drivers seat, confuses you, where it comes from,so this might be the case...
NOW the solutions are 2:
1) i wnet to my dealer where they fixed it with some allignment of carpet and plastics plus some spray
2) DIY with some sort of lubricating-silicone spray..
Hope its this, because its simple to fix

Dilinger,
Thank you for your post, I will work on it this weekend. I always assumed it came from the side window, as did my dealer. The fact that they tried three times to fix a problem that doesn't exist in that area may explain why they can't seem to eliminate the creak.

Jason,
I had a creaking sound from the rear side window area and the dealer did get rid of it. They took the panels off, checked that the pins/latches were fine and laid down some felt tape and then put the panel back on. But I still have a loud and disturbing creaking sound from the rear window.

I had this problem with my 928GTS and since you can roll the window up or down and don't have to worry about smearing, I sprayed silicone on it and let it drip down through the weather strip. It worked.
