I would have though something like Paris or Los Angeles 2018.  I guess Geneva 2019 is later than I would expect but possible...

Differing design on wheels front to rear?  It's lost some 911 appeal - to my mind..!!

Have to remember this is a mule, so they throw on whatever wheels they have sometimes.  Even the metallic strip around the window does not go all the way around on this example.  It is for testing, not to show the final design.  I doubt either of those wheels designs will be available on the 992.

    Re: 992 Thread Closed

I figure one could reconcile RC's and Grant's thoughts on the 992 roll-out timeline as follows:

Fall 2018: unveiling of 992 Carrera base variants

Spring 2019: first deliveries of Carrera base variants, MY 2019

Fall 2019: Frankfurt Car Show, unveiling of 992 Turbo variants, deliveries commencing spring 2020, MY 2020

    Spring 2020: unveiling of 992 GT3, deliveries starting in early H2 2020, MY 2020/21

Of course but I wouldn't bet on it.

Looking at the McLaren power figures and how things evolve right now in the segment, I think it is going to be a regular (but newly developed and light lower displacement, under 4.0 l) V8 biturbo, probably with some hybrid tech "support" to keep emissions down and power up. Smiley

Officially, this car isn't even in development yet, so I have to base my assumptions on various rumors only.

The problem here are the Huracan and the R8, it would be too expensive to build a 960 on a completely separate platform, so all three (and probably another one or two projects) need to be using the same platform. Won't happen before 2020 I'm afraid.

    Re: 992 Thread Closed

And you think the flat 8 is dead? Thought there was scope with the module flat four and flat six program to go up to a flat eight as well but your suggestion would be if common platform gen need to also use a derivative of the "v" engines used  by Audi and mambo / too difficult to shoehorn a flat eight into a platform designed around v engines. Got it

To be honest, I don't have a clue. I only heard of a "small displacement, light, new generation V8", this is all I have. Sorry. Smiley Not even sure this is the engine they will use but it makes sense. If they put a biturbo charged V6 or even flat six in that thing, I wouldn't buy it. No matter how good. Smiley

Someone said something about the Flat-8 being disappointing in some ways when tested (maybe vibrations or output, can't remember)...

That sounds about right. My dilemma is whether I should replace my 991.1 Turbo S with s 991.2 given that the 992 is coming in 3 years which is a long time...

    Re: 992 Thread Closed

Continuing refinement in the 991.2 TTS steering, PDK programming and the general way the car drives and behaves at partial and full throttle is definately noticable.  Actually, the lack of latency in the throtte response is quite amazing now for this Turbo car.

    I say go for it..

I got the exact same impressions after test-driving the 991.2. The performance numbers improvements are marginal but the objective feeling of the car is so much better.

    Re: 992 Thread Closed

Definitely like what I see, a lot of subtle 993 cues in this design! It will be really nice evolution, and yes happy that there are no 4 cyl.

RC, where do you see the increased length? It look to me that the distance between the door and the rear wheel is about the same as the 991.

    Current 911 wheelbase: 2,450 mm

    Panamera: 2,950 mm

    911/993 : 2,272 mm

Can we expect a 4 door 911 in the future when they drop the petrol engines Smiley Smiley

    are you really sure ?

i guess they will sell as many a single they can, they need to finance diesel gate Smiley

but if this is as you said, meaning there will be other N/A GT 992 model, the interest will be lower.

i still think I will buy one, but I m not sure I will get THE car to get. AMG GT R is growing on me now .....
