Most of the mules seem to be having a recessed rear side window... anybody got information on what that might be for?

Also, most spyshots, renders, etc seem to be pointing towards this look for the rear lights:
    2019-porsche-911-992-04-2788.jpeg

But I assume it is more realistic to expect something more in line with the design language of the other models, probably like this:
    porsche_cayenne_02.jpg

    Christian, what do you say?

Now if Porsche really wanted to be "retro" they can get rid of the PDK "stick" and follow the lead of the Edsel!

Cool! I always love to play reverse detective on the pictures of the mules that surface.
I do hope though that the result will be looking better than my very crude photoshop! (Put the current panamera rear light design on the current 991):

Same, I really dislike how it looks on the Boxster and while the Panamera looks much better now, that light cluster/plastic is an eyesore. I much prefer how they did it on the 991.2 4S.

What's the source of AMS ?

IMHO, It's all said and done by journalists (or dare I say by manufacturers) to push potential customers in showrooms and sell more cars today. Then in a year or so, AMS will just say the opposite.

I think it is possible that 992 GT cars will all be turbocharged, but that they will split off a new branch from the GT tree that is more similar to the GT3 Touring (without the GT3 name next time, perhaps) - NA with choice of manual.

Maybe we see a 48V powered GT3 which electrically spools up the turbo - so no more lag at all and the fact that you have much more torque across the board make just sense to me. 20-30 hp increases do not make that big of a difference anymore on NA cars that are probably necessary - plus Porsche wants to optimize CO2 etc etc

Anybody who has driven the latest GTS generation has realized how good turbo cars became - just not high revving and good sound anymore but if AMG can do it Porsche surely will find a way

Re: 992 (Next 911 generation 2018/2019) Thread Closed

Apparently Ferrari does it well too... Isn’t it ironic that Porsche was the one using turbos all along and will be the last one to get it right?

    BjoernB:

AMS was quoting that there is no more NA engines in the 992 - including the GT division.....

Executive board member Michael Steiner is saying in this recent interview, that Porsche has a 3 pillars product strategy. The first pillar includes the traditional combustion engines, such as high revving and emotional natural aspirated and turbo engines, the second includes the plugin hybrid models and the third pillar the electric mobility.

    https://www.golem.de/news/zukunft-des-autos-unsere-elektrofahrzeuge-sollen-typische-porsche-sein-1709-130095.html

If he's being honest, this means, that Porsche should build NA engines for at least another decade.

Re: 992 (Next 911 generation 2018/2019) Thread Closed

It makes sense for Porsche to continue offering NA for the sportscars because on one hand they satisfy the traditional buyers and on the other hand the NA are such a tiny fraction of the total production that doesn't affect their aggregate emissions or fuel consumption. All the big selling SUVs and limousines are turbocharged anyway.

as much as I like NA engines - and I own 5 GT products - I am seeing the end of it. On top of it you have important markets where you are being taxed above 3000 ccm massively more - hence it all make sense

Re: 992 (Next 911 generation 2018/2019) Thread Closed

There are always those who don't spare the cost for something they like. And anyway Porsche cannot go over around 4.0-liter in a NA 911/Boxster/Cayman so the cubic capacity will never be enormous.

    No more n/a engines, true...sadly.

How could Porsche compete with a McLaren 720S with a n/a engine? Ridiculous.

960/Huracan get a V8 Biturbo with at least 650 hp (base engine) and with turbo engines, more powerful variants are easily doable. It was about time.

A V10 Biturbo would have been interesting as well but with current emissions laws? Not so easy (and probably not worth it).

In the end, most high performance engines will get turbo engines and/or some sort of hybrid versions.

Right now, it looks that way.

There could be a 12 cyl. sportscar along the way, maybe a 918 successor with a hybrid but only because the next gen Aventador is supposed to stay with a 12-cyl. I wouldn't be surprised if this engine will also be used for Bentley as well.

There is so much going on at VW Group right now, I wouldn't be surprised if what I heard recently would be obsolete next week. Smiley Smiley

This is the plan but I think, right now, Porsche is a little bit too focused on ELVs due to VW Group's "new" orientation... Smiley Next Macan generation only electric? I want to see that. Smiley It is way too early for these predictions and Porsche could risk a lot here if it doesn't pan out for them.
