Re: Huracán Performante in "6.52 something" at the Ring?

From mclife, of all places to find this

The bottom line is, whatever magic aero Lambo has done seems to work. I was told by the Lambo rep that the Performante repeatedly did 6:53 lap times on the ring just before nabbing the 6:52 time. Lambo had debated on just using the 6:53 time since it was consistent, but then decided that records are records and don't need to be averaged. He also said the SV actually did one high 6:57 time but Lambo felt it was not the official time since it was never repeated.

This is not just a wing and call it a day. The air actually gets diverted by the winglets and send it up through the wing channel and out through the smooth hollow wing (which is why forged carbon had to be used, smooth inside as well as outside). No one has ever attempted such a feat in a production car before. If you look at the back side, the entire rear bumper is a downforce wing. A motor in the front air dam also moves a flap (I was told this all occurs in milliseconds). A lot more than just the rear wing are at work here. I think from a technological aero standpoint, Lambo has placed itself ahead of the game. I give credit where it is due.

Re: Huracán Performante in "6.52 something" at the Ring?

    More:

The lambo rep said that during cornering, yes. In a straight line at certain speeds, he said the downforce is reduced 20% over the standard Huracan. Here's how he explained it... He said that by default, in the closed position, the winglets do nothing and the wing produces up to 750% more downforce in the rear than a Huracan. But when going in a straight line the winglets fully open and divert air away from and reduce hitting the exterior upper side of the wing. The way they do it is by diverting the air through a channel under and inside the wing. This actually creates lift with minimal drag and lightens the car. The net effect in the straights is minus 20% downforce over not having any aero at all. He said that even on the road this will be noticable. He claims the rear end will feel lighter and more playful than the Huracan when you want it to be, yet it will stick like glue in the corners when in track mode.

Re: Huracán Performante in "6.52 something" at the Ring?

    More:

Well, since they didn't give a number, here's how we can calculate it based on some current facts.

The last LP570-4 Superleggera produced 110lbs of rear downforce at it's top speed of 202 mph.
The LP570-4 SuperLeggera produces 50% more downforce than the standard Gallardo.
The Huracan produces 50% more downforce than the standard Gallardo using underside aero.

So the Huracan produces around 110lbs of rear DF at 202mph.
    750% of 110 is 825 and 750% more is 825+110 = 935lbs of DF at 202mph.
I don't know what this translates to at slower speeds, that's where the aero experts come in.

Re: Huracán Performante in "6.52 something" at the Ring?

If all this is true, Lambo will become with this model first time THE benchmark for track performance with a street legal GT car.... unless the 720S would be faster?...

Amazing models just ahead of us at the Geneva show, really great time!

GT2 RS is announced to be in 7.10... for the time being, but Porsche has now some more time to improve following the Performante unexpected tsunami... and same for Ferrari with the 488 Speciale.

If I had a dime for all the times some new reinvented system was going to be revolutionary... I have a hard time falling for all that hype, so I guess I'll believe it when I see it, specially from Lambo, they make good cars that have a place in the market but being the benchmark for track performance has never been exactly in their DNA...

The downforce calf in the summary makes no sense. The whole point according to the information presented was that there would be active aero diverting air from the rear wing and avoiding downforce to less than the standard car. Frankly the light rear at 200 would give me pause. I would rather top out at 200 solid to the ground than 210 with a light rear swinging around.

    True. Smiley

Regarding track performance: Similar to Audi, Lamborghini couldn't really decide what they want...track performance or comfort. I think that things have changed, at least at Lamborghini. The Huracan Performante will be a blast (not sure about the under 8 min. Nordschleife time, the Sport Auto Supertest comes out in autumn as far as I hear) and with the facelift, the Huracan will get in 2018 some of the Performante upgrades (incl. the ABS improvement) and rear wheel steering(!).

I am very excited about the Huracan Performante because while I applaud and admire McLaren for the performance of their cars, I really like the V10 engine of the Huracan and would honestly sacrifice a bit of straight line performance for the emotional sake of a good sounding engine. Just yesterday, we were at Lamborghini Munich and we heard the Aventador SV and the Huracan Avio. Oh boy...aural sex. Smiley

is there a difference in sound between Huracan Avio and your R8? Did Avio have sport exhaust?

Re: Huracán Performante in "6.52 something" at the Ring?

No, sound is basically the same but I cannot listen often enough to the V10. indecision  The V12 is also out of this world, what a fine engine, I hope Lamborghini will keep it forever.

They had an Aventador SV, brandnew delivered (didn't even know they make them anymore, considering the facelift), what a beauty. I couldn't get my son away...

I saw an Aventador SV in a deep red at London Lamborghini .. I had to drag myself away

Very wide car though, makes Huracan look petite

And that's one of the reason I bought the Huracan instead of the Aventador. Aventador is simply too big.

I guess we all expected more than this further teasing video.

Next video is on 1st March, 1 week ahead of the official press launch in Geneva on 7th March.

So we can expect some further little bit of info in the 1st March in a new teaser video, but nothing really concrete like the famous Ring lap time before 7th March.

Re: Huracán Performante in "6.52 something" at the Ring?

Saw this on PH and was wondering if anyone else has heard of this time.  Does anyone on here know if its for the Performante or the 720s?  It was brought up on the 720s page, but they were discussing the current benchmark of the ring to beat.

Heard its 6.49 due to some really light CT thingy and active aero ?

    I think it's 6.13, maybe even lower starting with a 5... Smiley

Seriously, I don't understand all that BS about give or take some seconds, nobody here will ever achieve that and dare I say, nobody will even try. I think they should stop talking and teasing and give us the car, that everybody wants: if not light, please not too heavy, good amount of tech (CF and RWS would help), a glorious NA-V10 with great sound (in turbo times this is crucial) and enough horses under the hood and finally looks to die for without too many silly wings and winglets and flaps. That's all. Smiley

A glorious snd screaming NA V10: I fully agree! kiss

BS about give or take some seconds: It says about the capabilities of the car and this is relevant for those of us who are tracking their car, so relevant IMO!

Cant argue with that.Smiley  Especially since they may toss it after this model, or the facelift.  But imo, the best part is that they aren't limiting it.  But was still just wondering if it was something did with like the SV.

Re: Huracán Performante in "6.52 something" at the Ring?

People buying into the marketing may be in for a shock when it gets beat by cars that were much slower on the Ring...

Re: Huracán Performante in "6.52 something" at the Ring?

    I dont see what you're getting at.yes

Re: Huracán Performante in "6.52 something" at the Ring?

Benchmarks are relevant because very few drive these cars anywhere near the limit. Yet you pay for the performance so you need to justify the price you paid by someone else showing you how fast the car is... Else we would all be driving Priuses...

Re: Huracán Performante in "6.52 something" at the Ring?

    kingjr9000:

    I dont see what you're getting at.yes

What I'm getting at is that people are buying into a fast Ring time meaning it has the same level of performance everywhere else. When the Huracan actually gets tested by all the magazines every place except the Ring, I think there's a good chance it doesn't come out on top on the tracks or even simply a straight line.

Re: Huracán Performante in "6.52 something" at the Ring?

I get it now. I still have faith that it'll perform at all places, though.  It'll definitely point lambo in the right direction if it pulls through and if they can actually get the wight down further with their forged carbon.
