    E55 AMG - 300 kph (188 mph)

Just a little teaser for the video which is following as soon as I find out how to get a decent sound quality.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to drive the possible 309 kph (193 mph) which I usually get as top speed on the speedo because of traffic and stupid drivers who don't understand what it means when somebody is coming very fast from behind with the lights on.
Please look at what rpm the 300 kph have been achieved, the E55 without 300 kph speed limit is capable of at least "true" 330 kph.

    Re: E55 AMG - 300 kph (188 mph)

    All I can say is--WOW!!

I wish our cars in the US didn't have the 150 mph speed limiter...

The most interesting part: something is wrong with my car (it seems that the 7th cylindre makes trouble) and it still runs that fast.
I'll have that checked at my dealer next week, they already exchanged a flap control unit (responsible for ignition times/fuel distribution, etc.) but this didn't seem to do the trick. From 200 to 300 kph, my car needs 43 seconds, making it around 58 seconds from 0-300 kph. This is way too long compared to the times I achieved around three weeks ago, a 996 Turbo does 0-300 kph in 60 seconds and I clearly outran a 996 Turbo, especially from 200 to 300 kph.
There seems to be a problem starting at around 280 kph, I'll try to make a short crop from this file with enhanced audio for everybody to understand what I mean.
This same file goes to AMG on Monday because I want them to comment on it.

RC, sorry to bring up this thread again, but are you referring to that slight humming noise ~282km/hr?

It is not a humming noise, it is a pretty loud and annoying whistle noise.
My dealer found the problem, it was the panoramic roof creating serious wind noise. It took him several weeks to find the source of the noise. Unfortunately it has gone for a few weeks only, two days ago I've been to Munich and the noise came back again between 286 and 298 kph. I guess there is no real fix and I wonder if this means that future E55 with panoramic roof should get the 300 kph speed raise.
I also have other problems with my car but I'll post the details in a week or two (I have my reasons).

Of course. I guess Americans have nothing to be jealous of, seriously. Anybody can drive 300 kph on the straight line, it is only a little bit more difficult if there is a curve or if there is traffic. I only post this pictures because I know how much people from speed limited countries enjoy them.

RC, overall, do you encounter ANY squeaks or rattles inside whilst driving?

Yes, I do. Especially over the past few weeks. Maybe because of the change of outside temperature. But I usually don't care too much about rattles and squeaks, you should listen to our ML55.
The problems I mentioned are minor problems but they happened too often, sometimes repeatedly. I'll post more details as soon as I can.

    Re: E55 AMG - 300 kph (188 mph)

I absolutely HATE and DESPISE squeaks and rattles. I think, its due to a hard ride, or bad build quality, or a combo of both!

Please pray that one never finds these rattles inside any 600 model!

    Re: E55 AMG - 300 kph (188 mph)

The ride of the E55 is no where near too firm, even in the sport 2 setting (for my body at least), so I don't suspect that is the cause. A Mercedes can handle this, I'm quite sure. What I'm not sure of however, is whether an S600 should be less prone to rattles than an S55. I don't see any reason why it should be.

    Re: E55 AMG - 300 kph (188 mph)

S600 should have no rattles since it has a "magnificent ride". S55, people have complained that AMG have spoiled the ride. So possibly, you could have rattles in an S55,or in any AMG model compared with its Mercedes counterpart.

However, it is possible on cars with ABC, to refit normal 600 suspension settings to all ABC 55 models. That way you haev the SL55's growl coupled with "nearly" S-class ride...

Officially? I doubt it. AMG doesn't tweak the ABC system of the S55 to be more comfortable. And playing around with it can be dangerous. I really wonder why somebody would buy a S55 and make complaints about comfort. There is still the S600 which is even slightly faster from 0-250 kph.

    Re: E55 AMG - 300 kph (188 mph)

Personally, ABC on the S55 is just about perfect for that kind of vehicle. Not only does it manage body roll, but it allows you to go over speed bumps much faster than everyone else! Maybe you were right RC, about the stereotypical Mercedes/AMG owners. Maybe it is no mistake the ones I ended up being friends with here in the States are not unlike you!

I see what you are saying Bilal, but if a BMW M5 can be built (intially) without rattles, then so should an S55.

Perhaps we should cease to talk about ride and rattles etc...this is RENNteam you know!!

    Re: E55 AMG - 300 kph (188 mph)

RC, how fast is the S600 from 0-250kph? Any times?

Well like I keeep saying, the S600 only comes in LWB form, and is too sedate, just another Mercedes since there is no exhaust note. Now wouldn't it be nice if you got all the S600 amenities and good points in a car in SWB form but with an out of this world exhaust note? Just some would, not everybody.

and as for the ABC settings, this is what they said...when I contacted AMG from our dealership...

    Dear Mr. Siddiqui,

please find now the desired prices for the modification of the S 600 suspension for the S 55 AMG:

    Re: E55 AMG - 300 kph (188 mph)

Merc has a very good clientele service IMO.
Bilal, re the S600, we have one (the 500hp one), and honestly, it's not that much fun, took it out for a drive again last time I was in Paris, and it's not really my idea of a fun car, completely inert. ESP at 50 kmh when flooring the pedal.
As for the suspension I don't like them, but only because I like sports cars in the first place, and in the S600, it's like driving a carpet at all times.
It fits its purpose very well, a very fast very comfortable limo.
    My father thourghly enjoys it.
You wouldn't (if you're a sports car enthousiast), I don't, and most of our member wouldn't, again, as a sports car of course.
On the motorway, it's supreme! Absolutely silent, great sound system, nice comfy seats.
I know I posted pics of the car when we get it, but honestly, it doesn't even belong to this forum.
The S55AMG would I suppose. More sporty in its approach.
    Fanch.
