Buying out of warranty 996
With the price of 3.4 996 falling to within my reach, I started checking out a few 99-00 996. However I always have a serious doubt on if if is wise to do so because of RMS. So posts suggested that as much as 25% (or higher) of 996 are affected. It almost sounds like I will have to deal with this problem (if I buy a 996) if I plan to keep my Porsche for a long time.
Does anybody know how much it is to change the seal(s). Or worst case replace the engine? I lived in Canada so experiences from US/Canada will be much appreciated. Also, has the latest fix (I think it is something along the line of a Cayenne seal) finally eliminated the problem?
Because of RMS, I almost think that I should stick with my original plan: look for a good 964 or 968. Any comments.
