It does look really great! Which color is it?

Lichtgrun (Birch Green) 253  Old Porsche color from the early 1970s.  I am fulfilling the desires of my youth in the absence of its vitality.  HL Menken said the problem with youth is that it's wasted on the young.

What was the charge for the Birch Green and how long did it delay taking delivery?

I am thinking of ordering my .2GT3 in that color.

Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 Carrera GTS models

The new PTS charge is $6950 so it's significantly more than it used to be ($5500) but it's not Ferrari pricing either.  I tried to do this color for my 991.1 GT3 but was denied back in 9/14 along w/ a lot of other GT3 buyers.  In any case I ordered the C2S in February 2016 and it was delivered end of 8/16, so about 6 mos.

Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 Carrera GTS models

They denied you PTS for the GT3 but allowed it for the RS. Go figure.yes Six month delay isn't too bad. One RS owner I know ordered a PTS color and it delayed his delivery for almost a year.surprise

I wonder whether PTS is worth the hassle. Porsche seems to discourage PTS orders.Smiley

Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 Carrera GTS models

Actually the PCNA rep was apologetic about what happened with my GT3 order and they approved my PTS request in a day. maybe because the cost is now 7K they are more enthusiastic? You may also want to consider acid green which is now on the approved PTS list for the 911. Go to your dealer for a copy. I was asked not to circulate the list I was given which is out of date anyway. I did acid green stitching and I think it came out great. Remains to be seen what Exclusive will allow for the .2GT3.

I think Porsche is making an effort to improve the efficiency of the PTS process - I think it will be more easily ordered in the future.

For $7000 I would hope they would make it more efficient. Whether I order PTS depends on the colors available for the GT3. I am not convinced spending $7000 for paint on a car that would have come already painted makes a lot of sense regardless of how much I like the color.angry

Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 Carrera GTS models

I would have to agree with you Nick, unless money is absolutely no object or we are talking about a $400k+ car, I could think of so many things I would rather spend $7k on the car than a color that is not in the options list.

You are not paying for what the different color paint job is worth, you are paying for the hassle it is for them to deal with custom color paint jobs in their factory line. Unless you are fixated on a particular color because it has some sentimental value, or whatever reason, that money could be put to better use in other things IMO. To each his own though.

Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 Carrera GTS models

I'm not really worried about the $7k (you almost always get more than that much back on GT cars anyways when you sell it, unless you choose a really ugly color).  I don't like the idea of any delays...

Compared to other manufacturers this is a reasonable amount. Spending a lot extra on a whole lot of optional equipment also does not make sense, but the visual and emotional impact of a special paint colour should not be underestimated.

totally agree - a Special Color will certainly add the 7k again when you resell - same happened here to a speedyello & Signal green RS - People are willing to pay extra for that

While it may be true that the cost of PTS can be recouped on resale, it definitely and substantially reduces the number of potential buyers.

A great deal will depend on what colors are offered.

It will only add $7K to the price if you paid $14K for it.

PTS is only beneficial if you do it on a rare/limited model and/or the color you choose is actually awesome. Weird/obscure PTS makes a car harder to sell in most cases.

Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 Carrera GTS models

Weird discussion. If one want an individual color then order PTS. If resale is a big issue, then maybe one should not buy a car at all.

This. Color is probably the most significant and important option on any car and $7K isn't that bad. Maybe not worth if it you just want a slightly different shade of red or silver, but worth it if you want something very unique and out of palette.

Audi is also one of the few who offer reasonable PTS prices on high-end cars.

I remember when matte paint was $25K on the Gallardo and $5K on the R8. Ferrari charges upward to $30K for some paint. McLaren is actually somewhere in the middle and IMO has the best paints of all manufacturers.

My dealer actually claims that for certain cars, such PTS colors add resale value because the typical customer for such cars usually looks for something "special".

It's not that odd of a discussion for those who have never considered it. It's just another option to weigh the value of.

My favorite colors for exotics are not common and often hard to sell at anything other than a deep discount. I like brown, dark green, champagne, gold and burgundy, but I'm aware of what happens come resale, thus I wouldn't spec one most likely.

A wise man - like I said I know of 2 RS cars that got a considerable premium for the Color for being "unique" and also a historical Porsche Color. fact....

Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 Carrera GTS models

It really depends on the modell - I would not pay more (even less than in silver)  for a basic PTS 997 like this:

Exactly  - this is where the Porsche GT market is currently. I hope to get a 991.2GT3 allocation (sounds bizarre doesn't it given what else I have, to get on my knees for a Porsche Smiley) and will certainly consider PTS,  not for resale ( I plan to keep it) but just to make it that extra bit special. All suggestions are welcome. I will open the bidding with - Tangerine.

Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 Carrera GTS models

In my opinion owning a sports car is strictly about the emotion of ownership and the enjoyment of driving.  Once the discussion becomes financial it's really difficult to justify any amount spent because the money can always be used elsewhere. The money I spend on my cars is disposable income that I have no illusions about recouping. By the way I submitted a feasibility check for Tangerine (blutorange) 118 back in 2013 for the then new 991.1 GT3.  I was turned down. One of my all time favorites.  Lava is sort of close but not really on the mark.
